K'inich J'anaab Pakal (Gran Sol ?

First African Baptist Church , Savannah, Georgia.
Unfortunately no picture taking was allowed. It's ashame they don't let you get pictures the place is rich with history.
The ceiling of the church is in the design of a “Nine Patch Quilt” which represented that the church was a safe house for slaves. Nine Patch Quilts also served as a map and guide informing people where to go next or what to look out for during their travel.
The holes in the floor are in the shape of an African prayer symbol known as a Congolese Cosmogram. In Africa, it also means “Flash of the Spirits” and represents birth, life, death, and rebirth.
Beneath the lower auditorium floor is another finished subfloor which is known as the “Underground Railroad”. There is 4ft of height between both floors. The entrance to the Underground Railroad remains unknown. After leaving our tunnel, slaves would try to make their way far north as possible. At one point in time people used to feed people through the holes to keep them nourished while in hiding. There are no records as to who went through the tunnel or how many....... firstafricanbc.com/history.asp

First African Baptist Church was organized in 1773 under the leadership of Reverend George Leile. In May of 1775 he was ordained as the pastor and December of 1777 the church was officially constituted as a body of organized believers. Under the leadership of the 3rd Pastor Reverend Andrew C. Marshall, the congregation obtained the property where the present sanctuary stands. Marshall also organized the first black Sunday school in North America and changed the name of the church from “First Colored Baptist” to “First African Baptist”. The sanctuary was completed in 1859 under the direction of the 4th Pastor Reverend William J. Campbell.
The sanctuary still contains many of the historical elements that have allowed the congregation to preserve much of its rich history. The stained-glass windows installed during the Pastorate of Reverend George Gibbons, 5th Pastor, can still be found along the edifice. A stained-glass window of Rev. George Leile is located outside, in front of the church.
The light fixtures, baptismal pool, and 1832 Pipe Organ are all original to the church. They were installed during the Pastorate of Reverend Emmanuel King Love. The light fixtures were originally gas at one time, but were later converted into electricity. The solid oak pews were installed in the main sanctuary during the early 1900’s under the leadership of the 7th Pastor Reverend James Wesley Carr.
The pews located in the balcony are original to the church. These pews were made by slaves, and are nailed into the floors. On the outside of the pews are markings written in the African dialect known as “Cursive Hebrew”.

African Burial Ground National Monument :: NYC
"Nkisi Sarabanda, symbolizing the signature of the spirit, is a representation of a bakongo cosmogram. This symbol portrays how the Congo-angolan people viewed the interaction between the spiritual and material world, or in other words between the living and the dead;the Congo-angolan people believe that these worlds are inherently intertwined.
An Nkisi is a spiritual object used for worship purposes, and have been found in places where enslaved Africans have lived in, such as in the plantation homes. Nkisis show the development of African American culture in how they are essentially African objects, but are constructed through American materials."

This is the symbol of the Raelian UFO organization, representing a spinning galaxy within a hexagram. The original symbol, a hexagram containing a swastika, was deemed offensive and redesigned. The Group has no ties or connections to Naziism; the swastika was intended in its older meaning as an Eastern Cosmogram- a symbol of the whirlings of the universe.

The painting on the easel, lower right, is a copy of a design by the current Dalai Lama, which is a variation on the theme showing a mandala or cosmogram, depicting three levels of meaning. The outer level represents the world in its divine form; the middle level, a map pointing toward enlightenment, and the secret level represents the perfect balance of body and mind - Nirvana. The ‘painting’ is made with coloured sand. And is destroyed soon after completion. All the sand is collected and placed in an urn. Half is given to the audience for healing purposes, and the rest transported to a nearby body of water and thrown in. The waters carry the healing blessing to the ocean, and then on to the rest of the world for further healing and the dissemination of universal goodness.
According to the box, the 26-ton Aztec Sun Stone was carved in the late 1400's, and lay buried face down for two centuries. Discovered in 1790 by workers leveling Mexico City's main plaza, the stone is a cosmogram -- an image representing the Aztecs' concepts of space and time. In The Aztec Cosmos, artist Tomas Filsinger renders the stone's carved face with its elements colored according to the Aztec codices. He has also written a 32-page booklet -- included with the puzzle -- that sheds light on the meaning of many of those enigmatic elements.
fresco in the Pisa Camposanto, painted ~1390 by Piero di Puccio. a geocentric depiction of the Universe that has a map of the Earth at centre. This is divided into three, corresponding to the three known continents, Asia, Europe and Africa. The 21 ascending circles surrounding the Earth are: water, air and fire, the five known planets, the Sun, the Moon, the star-studded sky with the zodiac symbols, the crystalline sky (Primo Mobile) and then the nine hierarchies of angels.
I was struck by the similarity in form to the standard Buddhist "Wheel of Life"
Just an incredible, incredible grave! The artwork over the ashes is called a cosmogram..

a cosmogram, or depiction of the universe both physical and spiritual, painted on the wall at Trongsa dzong
Mount Meru (Sumeru), the axis mundi, is surrounded by seven seas and seven walls of mountains. Past these one reaches a vast outer sea which forms the surface of the visible universe, in which solid worlds appear as small islands in four seas or "continents". The known world is located in the south on an island called Jambudvipa.
Its an ancient African prayer symbol. These wholes were actualy air/food/water holes for the underground railroad that ran under the building.

Yowa, a bakongo cosmogram, suggests the process of the continuity of human life via the interaction between the realms of the living and the realms of the dead. It indicates the voyage of souls through these worlds in the process of reincarnation. It is believed that the arrows portrays the motion of souls, and that communication between the worlds of the living and the dead occurs at the center of the symbol, where the cross is. Many (fill in gap in sentence) of this cosmogram has been found underneath plantation homes, and were used by Africans to establish and bring their culture to America.
