The little community of Copper Oregon lays down at the bottom of the lake. When I was a kid in the early seventies my parents would take my sisters and I up here to escape the heat of the Rogue Valley. Then the dam came and flooded the upper Applegate canyon covering our summer hide away forever. While the reservoir is nice and helps provide water through the summer and the view from here is very beautiful, I miss that hidden oasis where we spent so many hot summer days.
Copper-cheeked frog (Hydrophylax chalconotus)
Hydrophylax chalconotus is a species of frog in the Ranidae family. It is endemic to Indonesia. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, rivers, intermittent rivers, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marches, plantations, rural gardens, irrigated land, and seasonally flooded agricultural land. Formerly known as Rana chalconota, that taxon was applied to what is today named Hydrophylax raniceps. In the 1990s, it became generally agreed that Hydrophylax raniceps applied to specimens in northern and western Sumatra, Peninsula Malaysia and Borneo. Hydrophylax chalconota's range is limited to Southern Sumatra, Java and Bali (From Wikipedia article Hydrophylax_chalconotus)

A small copper stone that came from Copper Harbor in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. A small part has been cleaned and polished
This is considered "float copper" pieces of this can be picked up when found.
Volcanic activity produced the only strata on Earth where large-scale economically recoverable 97 percent pure native copper is found.
Much of the native copper found in the Keweenaw comes in either the form of cavity fillings on lava flow surfaces, which has a ”lacy” consistency, or as "float" copper, which is found as a solid mass. Copper ore may occur within conglomerate or breccia as void or interclast fillings. The conglomerate layers occur as interbedded units within the volcanic pile.
Time was when copper pennies were huge. Times have changed. These are recent 25 satang coins from Thailand, (face value of less than one US cent). The tiny (1 cm) copper plated coins are soon to be discontinued, along with English farthings and all the rest.

"Copper Basin Lookout:" Watching the sunset while standing under a very large juniper tree and looking toward Skull Valley from Prescott's Copper Basin Lookout near Thumb Butte. I took this image a number of years back and never got around to posting it. It was one of those cooler than usual, windy mid-fall days that had the sun hidden behind the clouds until the very last minute, and thankfully allowed for a splash of color against the sky.
I uploaded a shot of this earlier, but it was just a phone pic. I didn't think I got one with my camera, but I did, and I like this version MUCH better. Lol So here it is again!

This is my Golden Retriever "Copper". He was copper coloured once, but is now mostly grey. He is a great old dog though.
(249/365) My first Small Copper of the year, these tiny butterflies are barely bigger than my thumbnail & so pretty. HWW!
A really dark specimen from the garden trap. There is another very similar Svensson's Copper Underwing. It seems the only really reliable way to separate is by genitalia or detailed examination of underwing
The Large Copper is one of my favourite butterflies. It is reaed to the Common Blue of whom I posted a photo yesterday, but the Large Copper is much rarer. They only live in wetlands and along the margins of lakes and rivers and exclusively in areas where the larval foodplant Rumex hydrolapathum grows in profusion. I know only one place here where I find them. The butterfly in this shot is a male as the upper side of the wings is almost competely orange. Females have more brown patterns on their wings. The word "large" in their name is misleading as they are rather small.
Another photo I was delighted to get on this visit to my local reserve.
The setting does not appeal but the butterfly is in good condition. I am always delighted to see this species which I only see occasionally. The odd one is seen at this reserve and in fact I saw another the next day. That had a better setting but poorer photos.
