At Chicago's Montrose Harbor and North Pond Cooper's hawks are a common sight. It always seems to be the young hawks who are around and they are often quite approachable. Here are a few shots of these cool raptors.

."Coop's" are one of the three common North American/eastern Accipiters, the other two members of this genus are the Sharp-shinned Hawk and the Northern Goshawk.

Cooper-Molera Adobe was home to three generations of Coopers. Built in the 1820s and remodeled many times until 1900, it now houses a visitor center with a shop full of old-time treasures. Don't miss its historic garden.

This Coopers Hawk landed in the branch directly above the finch feeder and needless to say they all scattered. I raised the camera and a split second after I clicked the shutter he already vanished from my viewfinder. I got the first and only shot.

Cooper's Hawk at the feeders looking for an easy meal. All the birds were screaming and making more noise than I have ever heard... So I grabbed a camera and took some shots before he finally gave up.
