Yin & Yang? I don't know ...

Kitchen by Hibbard Custom Cabinets in Scottsdale, AZ 602-315-0525 HibbardCustom@yahoo.com

As Daisy checked on her rising bread dough yesterday afternoon, she looked simply lovely, natural and content. So of course I had to ruin the moment with my camera.😉💖💖

By the way, all that cardboard is there so the kitty isn't able to dash across the cooktop. But I think we might as well discard it now, because he's gotten big enough to jump straight up there. Hopefully we'll find another way to discourage him.

The #MacroMondays theme for 4/14 is #knob. This is the knob for our ceramic cooktop. This shot may need to be cropped after I measure it.

We were delving into our ancient storage chest today and found this cooktop, which we thought we had thrown out already.

A bit rusty but still working. Might still come in handy sometime... I am a terrible hoarder.

OK, enough La Condesa kitchen lets get outside!

The Kirchen at La Condesa Enramada in Barra de Potosi, Guerrero, Mexico comes replete with gas cooktops plus the wood burning clay cooktops.

Tefal 'Secure 5 Neo' pressure cooker on NWKA Induction Cooktop

These go together wonderfully, particularly in summer, when all the heat goes straight into the pot, which along with reduced cooking time means one doesn't heat up the kitchen!

Induction is delightfully fast.

The ladies from the kitchen of La Condesa Enramada in Barra de Potosi are finishing the first of 3 side by side wood burning cooktops. The round cooking surface that will fit in the opening can been seen on the counter in the background.

I'm sorry for the bad quality of these photos. It was getting too dark until I had prepared everything for my diorama. This scene was placed on my ceramic glass cooktop so I couldn't let it be there to photograph on the next day... *LOL*

Well, I have to get a better camera finally... 🙈

Anyway, I couldn't choose between these two photos (slightly different angle and editing), so I'm sharing both of it. ^^

original general electric aqua wall oven and matching cooktop included in the house. they both work perfectly, and here's a snap of the wall oven. looks almost brand new. btw i just plugged in my cable modem and router and *poof* they work.

now if only i could find my camera charger...

**updated** i am a fool. after searching high and low through countless boxes for my camera battery charger and having no luck, i realized that i keep my charger IN MY CAMERA BAG. duh.

Welcome to Happy Fourple "F" Monday (HFFFF)

it goes like this:

Favourite Friend Francis Fowler gave us:

Forty Four Fresh Figs.

we went to the internet and googled:

Fabulous Fresh Fig Favorites.

in:

Four thousand Four hundred & Forty Four milliseconds (slow net today) google returned:

Four million, Four hundred thousand Forty Four hits.

we selected a recipe for:

Favourite Fresh Fig Flan.

when baked:

Four Friends Feasted Favorably.

enough:

Foolish Frivolous Fig Fun.

The recipe For Fresh Fig Flan Follows (oops 5 F's):

INGREDIENTS

4 tablespoons butter, melted, plus butter for greasing pan

1 cup natural raw almonds (not blanched)

¼ cup sugar, plus 2 tablespoons for sprinkling

¼ cup all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon baking powder

⅛ teaspoon cinnamon

⅛ teaspoon salt

3 eggs, beaten

2 tablespoons honey

½ teaspoon almond extract

12 to 14

PREPARATION

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Butter a 9-inch fluted tart pan or pie pan; set aside. Put almonds and 1/4 cup sugar in a food processor and grind to a coarse powder. Add flour, baking powder, cinnamon and salt; pulse to combine.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, melted butter, honey and almond extract. Add almond mixture and beat for a minute until batter is just mixed. Pour batter into pan.

Remove stem from each fig and cut in half. Arrange fig halves cut-side up over the batter. Sprinkle figs with sugar and bake for 30 minutes, until golden outside and dry at center when probed with a cake tester. Cool before serving.

Oat bread fresh from the oven cools on a rack on the stoves cooktop. We use more of this than any other type of bread, this toasts exceptionally well. Oh, the house smells heavenly too.

These two stainless steel pots are decades old.

They have been used and abused almost daily for all those years.

They've been badly burned many times.

And they're still doing great, still being used almost daily and still much loved.

Stainless steel is my favorite material for cookware and the only one I use.

- DON'T USE IT OR REPRODUCE IT WITHOUT MY PERMISSION! - NON USARE O RIPRODURRE SENZA LA MIA AUTORIZZAZIONE!

Ooooh! I really must clean it!

No better place to get a waffle and some hash browns at 2 AM. The roof is removable to view the interior, which has a table with booths, a flat cooktop, a stack of plates, and a cooler.

Photo 2 in series. The Photoclub assignment was to take four views of one subject. That's my brand new induction cooktop in the photo, which I am really enjoying for controlled cooking.

The ladies at La Condesa Enramada in Barra de Potosi, Guerrero, Mexico are putting the final touches on the heating element on the new wood fired clay baker in the kitchen by moulding the clay to fit the element. This is the first of 3 side by side cooktops under construction.

Cook's been with me for so long, I really can't remember. Her first range was an old cast iron number; wood fired — no knobs or dials, seat-of-the-pants cooking, proper skills! Then it was gas; big, semi-professional — oven the size of a suckling pig or whole lamb if she desired, cast iron trivets you'd be proud to lift in the weight room. Now, the Estate's kitchen has gone all electric at the great expense of bringing in the power underground and replacing Cook's beloved cookware — hardly any of it, including her treasured copper ware and stove-top coffee pots, her 'coffee engines', work on the newfangled induction cooktop.

Today, she has the day off. Why not? Now she's shouldered the housekeeper's duties, following the "incident", she's more than earned a day off. Besides, with her out of the kitchen, I've made bagels.

I used that spelling because that seems to be "on trend". My recipe is for beigels, same thing, archaic spelling. It is said to be etymologically derived from German — meaning ring, or bracelet. Mine are traditional beigels, not pumped up mega-bagels — polite, 2 ounce beigels. They're an easy morning's work for me; probably half that for Cook.

When she gets back, how much trouble will I be in for violating her kitchen? I'm hoping a fresh bagel, some creamcheese and lox will win her over. Besides, I haven't left a very big mess.

It felt like I spent most of the day cooking and washing dishes, and it wasn't until 10pm that I remembered to take my photo. This mixer attachment was temporarily sitting near the cooktop, so I thought I'd have some fun. It looks somewhat atomic to me.

OK, enough cooktop construction already at La Condesa Enramada in Barr de Potosi, Guerrero, Mexico. Its time to let the ladies get cooking! But they do have two more to build first.

Not a unique experience but not something ones sees often. It was fascinating watching the ladies build the cooktop.

Yokohama Shinko District is home to the Red Brick Warehouse. The buildings (2 made of red brick) were formally the Customs Inspection House for Yokohama Bay’s shipping activities in the early 1920’s. Today the buildings are a two story shopping mall housing a concert hall, artist shops and restaurants.

Dealing with last night's pork ready-roast leftovers. I thought frittata. Why not, even though I've never made one. Can't be that hard to fathom how.

📌 Give leftovers a quick 'grill' in air fryer. Chop.

📌 Lightly beat two eggs with a bit of water (instead of milk). Add salt and pepper.

📌 Heat butter in frypan, add leftovers. Add eggs.

📌 Cover and turn heat down to 400 on induction cooktop. Set timer 5 mins.

Very nice, if I may say so, with some chutney.

Kitchen reno from Nov. 10 (demolition day) to Dec. 18 (completion date).

5 weeks have passed since the appliances and original 23-year old oak cabinets & island were removed and construction began. See how this space looked at the end of day 1: www.flickr.com/photos/joan-marie/15744412186/

Today, a row of 4" x 6" Ames glass tile was installed along the countertop. A metal Schluter in "brushed nickel" was run along the top and side edges of the tile, for a finished look.

Plumbers connected sink, faucet, garburator & dishwasher to the plumbing. No more washing dishes in the powder room sink!

The fridge, cooktop & wall oven/microwave were delivered and will be set into the cabinets tomorrow, and the electrician will connect power to the appliances & under-cabinet lites, and replace the existing light switches & electrical outlets.

TBD: installation of door & drawer pulls, once the owner has made a decision.

“X” is a beautiful, wide body, three-stateroom Nordhavn 62. She had benefitted from both her first and current owners with fanatical attention to maintenance and uprades. Among recent maintenance items, she was hauled in April 2018 for new bottom paint, the teak caprails are gleaming under new All-Wood varnish.

"X" is a veteran of trans-oceanic passage making. Her current owners have taken "X" from the US West Coast to Australia, and Australia back to the Pacific Northwest via the Pacific Islands, including Hawaii direct to Kodiak Alaska, before running down through Southeast Alaska (Prince William Sound, Sitka) to BC via the Inside Passage.

In addition to the legendary proven track record of the Nordhavn 62, the following specifications describe a vessel with updated maintenance and equipment well-suited to cruising at any latitude. There is not much more to do than provision and go. Fuel tanks were full at the beginning of 2019 and all servicing up to date.

The three-stateroom interior arrangement allows more generous space to be apportioned to the master and forward guest staterooms, and allowing flexibility in a second guest stateroom for either office or overflow sleeping functions.

The pilothouse has also been thoughtfully configured apportioning space for the helm chair, settee, day head, work desk and chest freezer, providing enough cold storage for worldwide cruising. The aft pilothouse configuration puts the on-watch crew well for overall visibility and minimal pitching motion.

The hull is Beige #310, and nicely defines the sheerline against the white deck, varnished caprails, and superstructure. The boot stripe is dark blue. All decks have a teak overlay bonded rather than fastened down. The foredeck was reacaulked and sanded in 2017.

The interior is cherry and the joinery is done in a classic style with raised panel doors and drawer fronts, crown moldings overhead, and wainscot detail on the passageway bulkheads. Cabin soles are cherry and spruce throughout. Efficient general storage and book shelves are incorporated into every living space.

The seating upholstery was done by a Seattle vendor in a tan Ultra Suede, using premium high-resiliency foam.

The audio system is high-end, and there are video screens in the salon and master cabin.

Port Guest Cabin/Office

Original owners each planned for dedicated work spaces – he in the pilothouse and she in the mid guest cabin that also serves as a second guest cabin. In the office configuration, the desk faces outboard presenting a large work surface. Two portlights outboard of the desk, and one large overhead hatch allow plenty of ambient light into the cabin and onto the desk top. The deck hatch and ports are fitted with an Oceanair combination screen and shade. There is plenty of lighting available overhead also. A leather upholstered seat swings out from under the desk.

There is abundant organized storage that includes lockers over the desk, a hanging locker, drawers (including a file drawer) in the desk, and a clever moveable locker that easily unfastens from the forward bulkhead and fills the seating alcove in the desk top. A sectional cushion fits onto the filled desk top, and is retained by the sea-rails fitted to the desk.

Pilothouse

With the settee and dinette table forward, there is enough room for a very functional desk and office area in the port aft corner. A PC monitor sits easily on the desk top, and just forward of it and above the desk stop is a bulkhead mounted instrument box to accommodate the ICOM single-sideband radio, and Garmin multi-display. A desk seat swings out from underneath.

Even with the popular day head present, there is still room enough to accommodate a 9 cu.ft. GE freezer in a teak enclosure between the head and the desk. Bee’s pilothouse is a beautiful place in which to operate the boat as well as a place to gather. The visibility from the house across the expansive foredeck is superb, if not a bit heady to look out over. In fact, it’s one of the elements contributing to the great character of the Nordhavn 62 that can spoil you for any other yacht.

We moved camp to Canyon Rims that day, set up the camper and got a quick picture or three before the weather finished moving in.

It's a bit of a mess, I didn't even take the time to set up the cooktop (it usually sits on the shelf to the right of the sink), I just had to get that background in the photo.
