Detail shot for realtor. This is a single exposure with no flash, exposure brought up a bit given the fast-ish SS but left a little below the actual brightness of the room. I was looking for ways to use my Sigma Art 60mm prime lens (you may recognize this is a really long lens you wouldn't normally get to use for real estate in smaller homes; I forgot my 18-55mm pancake kit lens)--I don't do detail shots much, but wanted to increase the number of photos without adding similar angles to the set and thus add value to the price.
I also took a similar shallow DOF shot of the pendant lights over the bar which aren't visible here, and of course one of the brand new gas cooktop and oven combo. I didn't send the latter because the photo looked like I was trying to sell the appliance on Craigslist so I didn't bother editing.
In glowing Harvest Gold, as are the cooktop and dishwasher, the oven is original to the house and had just been cleaned. This thing has more chrome than a '58 Buick! It doesn't always look this good so I couldn't resist a picture.

Historically significant yacht, Alloy Yahts first yacht over 100'. With the first carbon-fibre mast and an efficient fully-battened mainsail, 32.6m Esprit featured the transfer of technology from America’s Cup design into the superyacht cruising domain.
We've been debating a kitchen remodel for some time now. We've shopped appliances and materials. We've talked to different contractors. We've gotten a range of pricing and saved accordingly. Over the past few weeks, we finally decided to move forward on the project, and the construction is now complete.
The largest hold-up in moving forward with the project was in debating just how much to remodel. We knew the kitchen, being ten years old, was outdated and needed to be refreshed, but the price tag that came with our full vision was more than we were willing to spend. We talked it through and decided to invest enough to add resale value to the house, in preparation for a move in the next few years.
We're not sure where we'll move to just yet, but it is likely that we'll stay in the Parker, CO area.
So what all did we do? Well, over the past year we upgraded the dishwasher and the microwave. The keypad on our previous microwave went out one day, and the stock dish washer, which sits right above my office, was too loud for me to work. The microwave is also a convection oven, and we have been really impressed with the technology. Our replacement oven also has the convection feature.
The counters that we used to have we the stock laminate material that builders use, and it looked dated. We decided on a granite surface, and went with a darker tone to make the appliances stand out. I personally loathed the old bisque range that interrupted the countertop and created multiple points for food to collect. To solve this we went with an induction cooktop.
A new faucet and nice deep sink were also installed. The sink is mounted under the granite surface, which again makes cleaning the kitchen a snap.
The induction cooktop only works if your pots and pans are magnetic. Almost none of our old pots and pans were magnetic, so we went in search of a new set and landed at a high quality brushed stainless steel set. With the new, darker, countertops, we found that many of our accessories no longer matched, so we also upgraded the toaster (always a personal pain point of mine), and moved to clear glass containers for things like sugar, tea bags, etc.
The only standout is the bisque refrigerator (not pictured) that doesn't really fit it's space. We bought it when we moved in, and didn't realize that there were different "standard" sizes of refrigerators. It has performed great, with only one minor repair needed (thanks, Dad), but it totally no longer matches the kitchen. We have a replacement already in mind, but are holding off until the dust settles.
We also updated the countertops and sinks in the bathrooms throughout the house with the same granite. We want to update the master shower, and then we'll be ready to move. That'll likely be another year or so in the making though, until we've saved up enough money for the renovation.
What didn't we do? Well, the cabinets themselves are still the cabinets that came with the house. There actually a decent material, and they go great with the other colors and textures in the house (i.e. the wood floor). That investment would have added upwards of another $8,000 - $10,000 on the price tag. Not worth it with the potential move in mind.

Today is my littlest granddaughter's actual birthday and as we are heading off for a few days I won't get to see her (saw her yesterday at her little party). She adores horses and this is a collection of some of the Schleich horses that she received as presents. Happy Birthday Sweet Pea!!
We are going to visit my brother and sister in law at Forster for a few days to get away from the kitchen renovations. We will be home on Friday for the bench tops to be installed and hopefully then we will be able to have the sink, cooktop and oven installed and things can get back to normal.
This is more of my dramatic black cabinetry in the kitchen. The whole space was designed around that tile above the cooktop... it cost me about 13.00 at TJ Maxx- gotta love that kind of affordable inspiration!

An Induction Cooktop - In an induction cooker, a coil of copper wire is placed underneath the cooking pot. An alternating electric current flows through the coil, which produces an oscillating magnetic field. This field induces an electric current in the pot. Current flowing in the metal pot produces resistive heating which heats the food. While the current is large, it is produced by a low voltage.
An induction cooker is faster and more energy-efficient than a traditional electric cooking surface. It allows instant control of cooking energy similar to gas burners. Other cooking methods use flames or red-hot heating elements; induction heating heats only the pot. Because the surface of the cook top is heated only by contact with the vessel, the possibility of burn injury is significantly less than with other methods. The induction effect does not directly heat the air around the vessel, resulting in further energy efficiencies. Cooling air is blown through the electronics but emerges only a little warmer than ambient temperature.
