Jamie Cook

Bachelor of Visual Arts Jewellery

Jamie Cook is a non-binary pakeha artist born and living in Dunedin N.Z, with a history of using pounamu, other hardstones and more recently precious metals and vitreous enamel. They have a particular interest in abstracting forms found in nature that aren’t inherently human. Over the past 8 years they have developed a deep relationship with the mediums they use, feeling a need to make as much of the work by hand as possible. Casting silver ingots from scrap and recycled metal, along with sourcing and preparing raw stone to become jewellery, they infuse the work with their mauri and intent by honouring this sincere connection to the mediums and process.

Working with jewellery, Jamie uses emotional expression, automatic creation and abstraction, to devise pieces that challenge the viewer to interpret the work for themselves and share what their imagination uncovers, adding to the life of the work.

I took a trip over the the House of Blues the other night to shoot for the Cab. We were supposed to do some promo shots but their schedule got all crazy because of their tour manager leaving for health reasons. I wish him luck and a speedy recovery and hopefully we will be able to get together next time!

With an average annual maximum daytime temperature of 25.9 Celsius and a minimum average of 10 degrees Celsius these cells would be uncomfortable in the extreme. A deterrent to bad behaviour?

About to crack my beer :)
