My Christmas present...a new Kitchenaid mixer. Love it! I think Jeff's used it more than me though! Today we made chocolate chip cookies.

Peach cobbler cooked inside a covered iron skillet under coals for several hours..It didn't go to waste. Notice the left over ash on the lid from being buried under coals and ash.
This very cheerful vendor of lamb cooked slowly in hot ashes opened a crock and gave us a sample. I do not eat lamb, but I did try it, and admittedly, the lamb was delicious. I would like to have eaten in the market square in Marrakech, but we had a more formal group dinner in a restaurant. Not nearly as good, unfortunately.

THE SAGA OF ME AND MOPEDS: Here's the Cook Islands version of Budget Rent-A-Car. Everyone, either residents or tourists, rides mopeds all over the island. On my first trip, I decided to be all eco-friendly and rent a bicycle instead. Bad choice, as my generously sized island physique soon proved too much for the thin bicycle tires. On my second trip, I decided the Rarotongans must prefer mopeds for a good reason, so I rented one and had great fun zipping all over the place as if I were Peter Fonda in the movie "Easy Rider" (minus the rednecks pointing shotguns). Budget required that I get a Cook Islands moped license, but since I'd only just learned to ride one, in a typical fit of self-criticism I was fully prepared for the local license testers at the police station to find my moped driving not yet worthy of official sanction. So there I stood in line outside the police station, along with a couple dozen other tourists seeking the same license, anticipating embarrasing rejection, when some woman, clearly a visitor like the rest of us, came riding up on a moped and drove it right into a parked police car. This made me think, hmmm, maybe my own moped driving isn't so bad after all. In the end, I passed the test just fine and received an offical Cook Islands moped license, which sadly got lost a couple of years ago. Oh, and the lady who drove her moped into the police car did not receive too harsh a treatment from the local law, just some exasperated looks. The laughter from her peers probably did far more to encourage her to be more careful next time than a night in a cell would have.
My mum always told me to say please when asking for a favour. he uttered. I should have known Captain Cook was a snobby pom. LOL! No disrespect intended.
