An organic form sculpted from plaster as a study on convex and concave elements with intentions of designing three-dimensional objects for my "3D Design - I" course for the Fall 2013 semester at R.I.T. This sculpture features a meticulously carved negative space for interior depth to be complemented with a slender, voluminously shaped exterior and a smoothly sanded surface through careful craftsmanship.
In this piece, concave elements are carved out as deep, empty negative space serving to fulfill the centric focal point of the sculpture. A thick, full wholesome volume is achieved through the sculpture's positive exterior convex elements. Additionally a hole is consciously plugged into the structure to invite interior and exterior light to dynamically mingle within the negative space's area. Subtle curvilinear strokes on the outside followed by a deep void in the inside is essentially how this piece portrays the interaction between negative and positive space through its curved, feminine organic form.
The Sorreia is a breed native to Portugal.

DNA test on the herd at Black Hills reveals that they are a relatively pure strain of the wild herds in Portugal. Acquiring a true sorreia stallion would be a treat.

As a painter been really interested in reflections and mirrors for as long as I can remember. It seems artists have always had a fascination with the reflected and reverse image of the universe, the passage between two worlds the same but strangely different, often distorted by optics. Mirrors link with human vanity, they remind us of both physical beauty and also of our mortality and ultimate decay.
I love this building. It's called the Wigglesworth Building, and it's on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1883, it is slightly concave on one side, slightly convex on the other, and has a nicely proportioned curve in between.
