Beautiful recreation of a 1937 Ford.
This is a very interesting car. It shows many signs of being a 1983 Eldorado that was converted to convertible by ASC. This would have been before the factory authorized Biarritz convertible came in 1984.
The VIN tag and supplied window sticker show a 1983 Eldorado coupe with factory faux convertible roof. The horn pad is 1983-spec. It also lacks the standard leather wheel that would have been included with a Biarritz. It has a 1983 EGR solenoid and air cleaner. Someone has installed 1985 valve covers which was not uncommon in the field at that time to cure top end oil leaks. I believe the car to be an actual 1983 and not a tag job.
The car seems to be missing the HT4100 badges and chrome trimmed belt line moldings that would have been installed in 1983, and instead has a set of 84-85 moldings. It does retain its 1983 door handles.
The interior seems to be almost completely converted to 1984-85 spec Biarritz, with the complete black-out trim, deep pile carpet and 2000-Series radio (albeit the wrong one). Note that the rear courtesy light setup lacks the Cadillac crest it would have had in 1984-85 convertibles. The interior rear quarter trim are similar but not exactly the same as 84-85 convertible either. The rear seat is identical to '84-'85 ASC Biarritz convertibles. The power seat switches without rubber shielding call out the single motor with transmission that would have been used with the base Eldorado seats, not the tri-motor design used on the Biarritz. Note the power top switch is located on the drivers hush panel, where it would have been to the left of the radio on a later ASC. It also retains the map light, this time mounted on the underside of the ash tray which I have never seen before.
The frame lacks the 84-85 ASC reinforcements forward of the rear wheels as well as the second jounce bar at the front end. It does however have a set of very homemade looking rear frame to bumper reinforcements.
The trunk trimming is similar but not exactly the same as the 84-85 ASC spec.
This ad had a ton of incredible pictures that seem to give an honest look at the car, having had a lot of cosmetic work and in need of some interior rehab. What makes this find so interesting to me is that some years ago there was another 1983 Eldorado ASC convertible for sale with similar but as complete 84-85 updates. This car in question is posted on my page.
With the completeness of the swap done here, one would almost wonder if this was a mock-up to show ASC's capability to do the conversion. It would have been extremely cost prohibitive for someone to pay ASC effectuate a convertible conversion and to basically purchase an entirely new interior from Cadillac to install into that car just to have a quasi-factory convertible. Just enough of the car was changed to do proof of concept (seats, but not the motors, exterior trim but not the door handles, etc.) without being a total waste of resources.
No matter the case, I'm sure it has a story to tell!
Longshanks is a must see. Super clean and turn key totally refitted 42 Convertible Hatteras has major upgrades both exterior and interior from an owner that knew what he was doing. With all the tasteful upgrades and styling the Hatteras 42 Convertible was the long awaited replacement boat for the 41 Convertible. This was a big step forward for convertible design with her full width flybridge and her bold, more aggressive exterior profile. Construction was on the heavy side for this vessel with considerable flair featured in her bow. Her large 110 sq ft. cockpit easily accommodates the tackle center. Two stateroom arrangement with the galley down and a wide-open salon. Owner has had vessel for 10 years, has careful, detailed records of all work and maintenance performed. Owner is ready to move up! Make an offer!! Check out the pictures...
