The main explosive charges light up the two remaining piers of the eastern half of the old Tappan Zee Bridge at preciously 10:52AM as seen from the east shore of the Hudson River from the grounds of the Lyndhurst Mansion. In less than 10 seconds the massive steel structure fell to the earth like a mastodon being brought to its knees by early hunters.

The reason for the controlled demolition dates back to December on 2018 when it was determined that traditional methods of deconstruction had become unsafe. It was feared the remaining structure could experience a significant failure and potentially fall into the new Tappan Zee Bridge (or the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge for those who will actually call it that) or fall into the navigable channel of the Hudson River.

The decision was made to perform a controlled demolition shortly after and "Controlled Demolition, Inc" of Phoenix, MD was brought in to rig the remainder with explosives.

The remaining span was fixed with large chains so it could be easily lifted out of the river as one large piece while the piers and whatever other debris left behind would be cleaned up by a marine salvage operation.

The Hudson River waterway was closed to marine traffic early that morning while highway traffic on the new bridge came to a stop at 10:11AM. Metro-North also shut down the Hudson Line at CP-25 to all traffic at 10:21AM with Amtrak Train #236 being the last one through before all 4 mains were removed from service.

This morning I got to witness the razing of Southfield's North Park Plaza building. I'll let you know something: when the main supports are blown out, the rest of the building comes down in a hurry!

At first, I was like what the heck! That's it?

And then the shock waves reached me. :)

Marcie's not the least bit bothered when she's assigned with taking out the trash. She rather enjoys cleaning house from time to time. Not surprisingly, she never sticks around to admire her own work.

I've always been aware and mildly interested in the Red Road flats, so when I heard they were about to be demolished, well I simply had to go and watch.

With 1000's of people gathered to watch the flat's impending destruction you could feel the sadness in the air as former residents talked wistfully about the exceptional communal spirit in those buildings, and the unenthusiastic response to the new build homes that will replace them.

Apologues for the watermark, I don't usually watermark my pics but you know what the media is like these days...

If you are: the media, a former resident, or just interested I can send you an un-watermarked, larger digital copy (or a limited edition print). Any unauthorized use of these images is strictly forbidden

on the eve of its destruction

(Song by the Moody Blues.)

Last night I started reading David Ray Griffin's new book about WTC-7, the "Achilles' heel," "weakest link" or "smoking gun" of the 9/11 fraud. Very few ppl realize Building 7 collapsed like a controlled demolition later that evening on 9/11. The government came up with a lame excuse ("fire") for the building to collapse at freefall speed. This would be the first high-rise steel structure to collapse because of fire.

Here's a quote from the introduction from Niels Harrit of the University of Copenhagen, who was part of a scientific team that wrote a paper on nanothermite in the World Trade Center dust (evidence of controlled demolition). I know exactly how he feels ("having no rest"), the day I discovered that the CIA killed JFK:

"It all started when I saw the collapse of Building 7, the third skyscraper. It collapsed seven hours after the Twin Towers. And there were only two airplanes. When you see a 47-story building, 186 meters tall, collapse in 6.5 seconds, and you are a scientist, you think "What?" I had to watch it again . . . and again. I hit the button ten times, and my jaw dropped lower and lower. Firstly, I had never heard of that building before. And there was no visible reason why it should collapse in that way, straight down, in 6.5 seconds. I have had no rest since that day." (Emphasis added.)

(Watch this really good video of Dr Harrit saying this & more, HERE.)

Early Sunday morning (15/11/1998), each charged with 57 Kg of Emulex plus gold nugget boosters, the felling of five chimneys at Tsing Yi Power Station, Hong Kong. 10 secs in all (2 secs delay between each detonation), a record as this newspaper cutting reports; many thanks and all photo/journalistic credits to the Apple Daily for reporting the event. All chimneys fell exactly as planned, an exciting job to be involved in ! How lovely, not many folk get the chance to blow up their work place !!

Universal Wrecking Corp. ( www.universalwrecking.com ) was contracted to perform a very technical interior demolition / equipment salvage project that also included exterior demolition of a tank farm and associated piping, pipe bridges and concrete stantions and pads.

Following the interior demolition and equipment removals, UWC proceed outside to the tank farm. Structures were first carefully separated from the building to remain utilizing laborers with torches in manlifts. Once the area had been separated structurally, the outside tank farm was demolished utilizing a Caterpillar excavator with shear and grapple attachment. Skid steers with demolition buckets also assisted. The metals were separated and recycled offsite. Debris was also collected and properly disposed offsite.
