“International Woman’s day is a celebration on what ActionAid has contributed to this community. We say no to FGM and early marriage. In addition, we say yes to more power. Today is March 8th and a day where our voice is loud and clear.”
“This year, the theme is ‘connecting girls, inspiring futures’. That’s a very good theme because girls are the future for women’s rights and for this country. Also it is an important obligation for women like myself to show young girls direction.”
“I am a widow with six children from 16 to 25 years. Three of the children are still living with me. I have two cows, ten goats and a plot with vegetables. It is hard to provide for all of us, but we manage.”
Kongelai Local Rights Programme (LRP) mainly deals with the sponsorship work with three thematic focuses: Right to Education; Human Security in Conflict and Emergencies and Women Rights. According to the Ministry of Education, the Illiteracy levels in Kongelai Division stands at 95%. The enrolment and retention rates for children in the schools are also poor, largely due to prevailing negative cultural practices. Some of these practices include female genital mutilation, forced early marriages, moranism and cattle rustling.

Our cleanups are part of an ongoing effort clean the entire stream by 2014 in preparation for the War of 1812 Bicentennial Celebration. (Bread and Cheese Creek has been noted as one of the possible highlighted location on the Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail) The creek played a rather significant part in the Battle of North Point which took place on September 12, 1814. Both the American and British Troops camped along its banks. It is rumored that the young heroes Daniel Wells (19) and Henry McComas (18) used the stream channel to sneak up on British General Robert Ross killing him with their muskets before being killed in return fire. This important part of our history should not be left the eyesore it currently is.
Remember, there plenty of ways for volunteers to participate. We will need every type of person of every ability level to contribute and assist with the Clean Up. Though it is true we will need people to dig out shopping carts and haul trash to the dumpsters, we can use people to run water, food, tools, and trash bags (both empty and full) to individuals in the creek. People to sort recyclables from the debris removed. People will be needed to work the grills as well as many other less strenuous activities. We are also authorized to sign-off on Community Service and Service Learning Hours for students. The more people we have, the easier the work will be for everyone. Please feel free to pass this information on to other who might be interesting in helping as well. As my grandfather always said, “Many hands makes the work light”. We run our cleanups as a family event with all age groups welcome by developing plenty of ways for volunteers to participate.

This is a photograph from the annual Rathcoffey GAA 10KM and 7.5KM Road Race, Fun Run, and Walk which was held in Rathcoffey, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday 8th February 2014 at 11:00. This race event is in conjunction with Console Ireland, the National Suicide Charity (www.console.ie/). About 300 people took part in the two events. Despite the recent very stormy wet weather experienced in Ireland the weather conditions for the race were reasonably good. There was mild temperatures but at various points in the race route participants had to deal with a very strong head-wind. Nonetheless the race was enjoyed by everyone involved. The race begins at Rathcoffey GAA and goes out on to the road taking a right turn into Rathcoffey village itself. The race then follows the R408 towards Maynooth. The route heads for Ladychapel before turning towards Smithstown (goo.gl/maps/W5Kzf) and Johninstown rejoining the village at (goo.gl/maps/l7oEP) and returning to the GAA Clubhouse. The final 2KM of both races sees the participants return to the GAA club on the same 2KM as the start of the races. Rathcoffey is a small rural village which is easily accessible from it's larger Kildare town neighbours of Clane, Kilcock, and Maynooth. Rathcoffey GAA Club provided excellent facilities for the Race Headquarters and Start/Finish area which can be viewed on Google Streetview [goo.gl/maps/MtTpg]. The race also benefited from great support from athletes from the local GAA clubs in North Kildare.
Congratulations to all in the Rathcoffey GAA club and the local community. This is a very well organised event with every detail attended to for race participants. There are refreshments, showers, and changing areas provided inside the main hall. The route is a flat fast rural country roads route and the event is gaining popularity with every passing year. Well done to all.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

Palomas, NM (Quay County)
This 10.4 mile section of state-maintained Route 66 serves as a frontage road for local traffic. Except for a subway in which the road passes under Interstate 40, deviating from the historic alignment for less than a quarter mile, it represents the alignment of the completed road project of 1933 and is marked by five concrete culverts and three reinforced concrete slab bridges. These structural elements as well as the original cross section template and surrounding landscape contribute to the historic feeling of Route 66 that this road section conveys.
As the road approaches Montoya, it diverges from its close parallel with 1-40, passing a series of small roadside businesses, now vacant and some deteriorating, as well as the Montoya cemetery. Combined with other landscape elements including the nearby railroad grade and the low telephone line paralleling the road, this portion of old Route 66 evokes a strong feeling of travel across rural New Mexico. This is a photograph from the 5th annual running the East of Ireland Marathons Staplestown Marathon and Half Marathon road races which were held in the village of Staplestown, Donadea, Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Saturday 21st January 2017 at 09:00. The event is organised by East of Ireland Marathons with local support and input. The races all started and ended in the village of Staplestown which is about 2 miles from the entrance to Donadea Forest Park. All races were held on the same loop of approximately 10KM in distance where the marathon runners covered 4 loops plus a short out and back sections. The half marathoners covered 2 loops and some out and back. The loop is well known to local runners as it connects the village of Staplestown with the larger village of Properous, Co. Kildare. Weather conditions were very cold as a night frost brought ground temperatures down to well below zero degrees celsius.

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) addresses carbon emissions that contribute to climate change, which has become an international challenge. Pete McGrail, a Laboratory Fellow at PNNL, is part of a team studying basalts to determine if carbon dioxide can be safely and permanently stored in these massive, deep underground rock formations. In this photo, he examines a basalt core sample.

Calrailfans meet at Haggin, Sacramento, 18 Feb 2017

Our February Calrailfans meet was supposed to be at Lodi, however the heavy rain that has been soaking California contributed to a derailment on UP's Fresno Sub near Elk Grove and the line through Lodi was still shut down as crews worked to fix the track.
After considering a couple of other sites, we decided to move the meet to Haggin, as everything going north-south between Stockton and Sacramento would have to run on the ex-WP Sacramento Sub and anything going north from Roseville would also have to go via Haggin, as the Valley Sub north of Roseville is out of service due to the Yuba River bridge in Marysville having been damaged by high water.
So Haggin it was and we could not have picked a busier day to visit. Trains to or from the south that needed to go east or west had to back around the connecting tracks on the north side of the overpass so there were quite a few backup moves in addition to the through trains on both the Sac Sub and the ex-SP Martinez Sub that goes over the Sac Sub here.
The backdrop is the Blue Diamond almond plant, which produces nuts known in many countries.
The dogs had a good time and were a hit with many people.
We had a break between a couple of wet days, and while the weather was mostly cloudy, we did not get rained on.
I've been to Haggin any number of times over the years, but for some folks, it was their first visit. The consensus is that we want to come back, however it is doubtful that we will see Haggin this busy again.
Amtrak is notably missing. The Sacramento San Joaquins were running Stockton-Bakersfield, with bus connections to Sacramento. The Zephyr was only running Chicago-Salt Lake City due to a washout in eastern Nevada.

honors art students will complete a composition, with at least 9 drawn images, using the requirements listed below. they will be given paper to start the drawing in class on monday 11/9 and have until the end of class finals day, w 11/11 to complete. i recommend you prepare over the weekend.
Objectives:
you will draw based on the theme, “honors art class- what i learned”. your work will be scored in the areas content, color, craft, and commitment.
Recall the “anatomy of an a-h-w”. you will follow the same guidelines:.
q consideration for composition, design, and negative space
q framing, a line that encloses
q headline- a unique, clever title
q date
q color scheme of 4 hues + neutrals
q color: oil pastels, color pencils, watercolor, mixed media, collage, consider a background value
q journal: artistically hand written within /surrounding drawing
q only draw with a pen, no pencils! this will cause you to work slowly. you are also making a commitment to take your time. be confident in your markings

When you analyze an artwork you will tell how the subject matter and elements of the work have been organized. To do this, think of the elements of art — line, shape, form, and color. How do the elements work together to create unity, balance, harmony, contrast, and movement? How do the colors contribute to the artwork? Where do you see complementary colors used? How does this affect the contrast? How are the elements of the work arranged?

20th Anniversary of ARASIA event at the IAEA 66th General Conference. IAEA, Vienna, Austria, 27 September 2022.
The event marks the 20th anniversary of the Co-operative Agreement for Arab States in Asia for Research, Development and Training related to Nuclear Science and Technology (ARASIA). The celebration include an award ceremony in appreciation of the scientists who have contributed to ARASIA’s achievements over the past two decades, and the distribution of a special publication to mark the occasion.

Our February Calrailfans meet was supposed to be at Lodi, however the heavy rain that has been soaking California contributed to a derailment on UP's Fresno Sub near Elk Grove and the line through Lodi was still shut down as crews worked to fix the track.
After considering a couple of other sites, we decided to move the meet to Haggin, as everything going north-south between Stockton and Sacramento would have to run on the ex-WP Sacramento Sub and anything going north from Roseville would also have to go via Haggin, as the Valley Sub north of Roseville is out of service due to the Yuba River bridge in Marysville having been damaged by high water.
So Haggin it was and we could not have picked a busier day to visit. The races were held as fundraisers for The Downs National School Development Project. The race HQ is The Downs GAA club which is right beside the National School. The Downs is situated half way between Mullingar and Kinnegad on the M4 Motorway with easy access provided by the junction at Thomas Flynn's Ltd (www.google.ie/maps/@53.501005,-7.2357645,17.75z). There was great local support at the race with over 350 participants with runners, joggers, walkers and families taking part. The weather was in contrast to the foggy bitterly cold day of last year - there was pleasant bright spring sunshine with little breeze making it perfect conditions for running.

Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

The former Maytag Company warehouse was built in 1916. The former Maytag Company building is located in the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a contributing property.
The same craftsmanship that goes into producing brand new instruments is also reflected in those that come in for repairs - a contributing reason behind the burgeoning market for vintage Kamaka.
The 44th Eirgrid Dunboyne 4 Mile Road Race and Fun Run took place in Dunboyne, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday, March 24th 2013 at 15:00. The race, now one of the oldest and prestigious in Ireland, attracted a record number of participants. The main race was preceeded by a series of children and junior races. Depsite the bitterly cold March weather the atmosphere for the race was electric. The 4 mile route which makes its way into the center of the village twice before returning there for the finish allows spectators to cheer on the runners three times. Overall this is a brilliantly organised race with every detail taken care of to the highest standard. This is to the credit of all of the volunteers from Dunboyne AC, Meath Athletics, and the local community of Dunboyne and surrounding areas. It is a race by which others can measure themselves.

In the Mountains of León, the systems have been maintained for centuries, contributing directly to food security and the livelihoods of local communities. Local animal varieties have been domesticated and developed over centuries to meet the environmental and social requirements of the territory that forms the Mountains of León system.
The diversity of land uses with forests (including chestnut groves, beech forests, birches, junipers, oak groves), pastures and areas under cultivation generates a space for coexistence of agriculture, livestock, forestry, gathering, hunting and fishing, giving the area great agro- ecological value.

One of my flickr contacts was in a hit & run accident. Her two greyhounds were in the back of her truck when a person hit her then fled. Both of her greyhounds were seriously wounded, and miraculously, both were quickly found and taken to the emergency vet's.
The cost to help them recover their injuries is quite high, almost $14,000. Some very special people decided to help out and sell bracelets to help offset the costs.
I wanted to do my share and now you see our wonderful gift we have received! I am so very honored to help with Opal and Rider's vet bill. It's the least we could do!

This is a photograph from the 37th Michael Manning Memorial "Dunshaughlin 10KM" Road Race and Fun Run which took place in Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath, Ireland on Saturday 18th June 2015 at 19:30. This race is widely acknowledged within the Irish running community as one of the best races in Ireland and is Ireland's oldest continuously held 10KM race. This year, as in previous years, the race attracted runners from not just all of Leinster but from the four corners of Ireland. The work of the organising committee must be commended on making this event possible. The Dunshaughlin 10KM has earned it's place at the top of the pedestal of Irish running through the sheer hard work of Dunshaughlin AC over the years. Road race events do not survive on their own. There must be dedication, hard work and a development vision amongst the committee and the host club. Well done to all.
The weather was perfect for running - it was a warm summer evening without any real wind or breeze. There was a light shower of rain for the first few minutes of the race which helped keep runners cool in the early stages of the race.

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

1 SB-600 with a DIY gridspot at camera left on a tripod (thanks to Rams for holding the lightstand as the ground was not flat). Flash triggered by CLS in Manual mode.
The pop-up flash although being told not to contribute to the exposure did contribute to it... But that was a happy accident as it worked well as an on-axis fill. I was too concentrated that I did not realize that until Emilanos asked me how comes he did not get any hard shadows...
