Captured in stunning detail, these vibrant daylilies (Hemerocallis) showcase nature's artistry at its finest. The rich crimson petals, adorned with delicate water droplets, create a mesmerizing contrast against the lush green foliage. The intricate ruffled edges of the petals and the golden-yellow throats of the flowers add depth and interest to the composition. This close-up view allows us to appreciate the subtle variations in color and texture, from the velvety petals to the slender stamens reaching out from the heart of each bloom. A testament to the fleeting beauty of these flowers, which typically last for just a single day, this image serves as a reminder to pause and admire the ephemeral wonders that surround us in the garden.
"I'm interested in creating a space through color contrasts, rather than by simple shadows of light and dark."
- August Macke

Cyanotype (Jacquard two part classic sensitizer) UV blocking test.
Dig neg with optimal UV-blocking colour empirically determined by calibration.
Very pleased with this, since Ware's one part sensitizer in my hands didn't yield that good contrast.
Untoned print on HPR.
This collage is of the same plant in our garden, taken less than three weeks apart. The top one I posted earlier and when I looked at it today I thought what a contrast in appearance. Abbotsford, B.C.
Japan is certainly a land of contrasts, the imposing Abeno Harukas tower rises behind Shitennoji Temple.
Loved the hard/soft; light/heavy distinctions of this feather on the hard exposed Precambrian rock. North Shore Rugged Hiking Trail, Parry Sound, Ontario — N° 4/6
