Every Autumn, my body
Prepares a little more for death
It is the time where there is more space
Between moments and
Minutes stretch out
Like a mountain range
With so many vivid blue contours
It feels more tangible and expansive
You know what will come next
The stillness.
A sense of a life too quiet
All the memories but with
No space left for the future.
Time adds up only to
Vanish like a desiccated leaf
Stepped on too many times
One last desperate thought...
Why is it so...
We must give all this up?
It is the inevitable equation.
We could never appreciate the seasons
In the first place
If we didn’t realize the change was coming.
And we will all disappear

Following the gentle contours of the Ottawa Valley, a pair of G&W GP38-2s hustle along OVR's scenic North Bay Subdivision with an eighteen-car train for the paper mill at Témiscaming, Quebec. It's hard to believe that this stretch of railroad was once a part of Canadian Pacific's transcontinental mainline.

Death Valley has the most feature, shape-rich topography of anywhere I've seen. Here, the various lumps, bumps, and contours appear to be melting into the the valley floor, like a large glop of fudge exposed to too much heat.

Light leaking in from the upper reaches of Upper Antelope Canyon. The light creeping in looks especially ghosty in the larger view.
Here is another turn in the canyon, and one of the famous light columns which appear in the canyon near noon.
As always, Antelope Canyon should be viewed on black:

120 photographs from across Norway – from ancient rock surfaces to fleeting ice and sand patterns.
Nature is so accommodating at times ;)
This marmot looked quite comfy there taking in the morning sun and warmth after a cold night there at 10,500 feet in Wyoming.
The contours of Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park are irresistible, as seen here in September, 2025. Another example of our best idea.

The scene captures a set of towering red-rock formations rising sharply from the desert floor, their vertical shapes carved through millions of years of wind and water erosion. Each spire shows distinct layers of sediment, revealing the geological history of the region like pages of an exposed archive. Under the crisp Arizona light, the rocks glow in deep tones of rust and burnt orange, creating a striking contrast against the flawless blue sky.
At the base of these formations, rounded mounds of sandstone reveal softer curves—evidence of slower, more patient erosion. These smooth ridges lead the eye upward toward the more rugged pinnacles above, showing how different densities of rock weather at different speeds. The landscape feels both ancient and dynamic, as if the land itself were still in motion, quietly reshaping its contours.
Scattered across the slopes, pockets of juniper and desert shrubs add touches of green that break the dominance of red stone. Their presence emphasizes the harshness of the environment: life here survives by adapting to extremes of heat, dryness, and elevation. The vegetation also helps scale the formations, making their massive size unmistakable.
In the distance, additional cliffs and mesas create layers of depth, hinting at the vastness of Sedona’s red-rock country. The overall composition blends color, texture, and open space into a landscape that feels both serene and monumental. It’s a view shaped by deep time—an unhurried masterpiece of erosion that continues to evolve long after the viewer moves on.

A fern sits on the banks or a stream of rushing water, that trips over an obstacle in its path. However, without looking at the objects, one can see the lines and contours that help make up the scene.
This was the goal, as the water leaves a distinctive pattern on the landscape. Colors, shapes, forms, and lines are all used to deliver dimension in the image

I was meeting with some friends yesterday over coffee, when I commented what a gem Kamloops has been for me as a photographer. It continues to offer opportunities as in this shot, which is just another ordinary day. One with a few clouds, mud along the Thompson River, and distant hills. It is an example of the many natural amenities this city offers, for those with a camera.
At the time of this capture, the sun was low in the sky, which of course further emphasizes texture given strong shadows. The clouds were puffy white and glancing across the sky. Natures colors mingled well offering rich browns, and deep blues. In all, just another pleasant day for someone with a camera.
Went looking for autumn colours in the woods near Netherton Reservoir....found this fence, and liked the way it followed the curves and contours of the land
