Here's one from a day spent by the seaside in Eastbourne when I taught a Polaroid workshop at Curious Projects.

I'm always chasing after seagulls and they always fly off before I get to them, but this time, they played ball and stayed still. Animals, photography and I don't have a great track record so I'm pleased my luck seems to be changing...

Happy 'Roid week everyone! May your good luck continue...

St. Nicholas Church (Dutch: Sint-Niklaaskerk) is one of the oldest and most prominent landmarks in Ghent, Belgium. Begun in the early 13th century as a replacement for an earlier Romanesque church, construction continued through the rest of the century in the local Scheldt Gothic style (named after the nearby river). Typical of this style is the use of blue-gray stone from the Tournai area, the single large tower above the crossing, and the slender turrets at the building's corners.

FEC train 111-15 is passing thru St. Augustine, FL on May 15, 2016 with the LNG test set on the point. The set has been in semi-regular service on trains 111-112 between Jacksonville and New Smryna Beach. On Sundays, 111 departs earlier than normal (Normally a nocturnal move) and is shootable in the golden light.

I was testing out the focusing. I took several photos of this scene - one at 100ft, and the other at FIXED. They both turned out relatively the same, but in this case, 100ft gave me a slightly clearer image. Moving forward, however, I may stick with FIXED.

A407 continues on northward after playing leapfrog with me several times during the day. I stopped in Gilman for some chow and a couple beers, and it got by me. No biggie, as my reason for being in the region was not train related. As I motored on I found it sitting at Ashkum awaiting a southbound, so I went to Chebanse to shoot it one more time.

Am lucky enough that the Evening Grosbeak are still visiting. It's pretty awesome. They seemed to have gathered some extra friends this morning, counted 20+ around the backyard!!!

Continuing with the series - the Flickr inequality and discrimination paradox: kittens are taboo, but camels are ok! Why nobody dismisses them as boring or kitsch, nobody laughs at photographers who upload camels? Not fair, Flickr! :(

LIGHT BLOOM by HYBYCOZO is a limited-time exhibit where nature and light converge. This mesmerizing display invites you to explore the Garden transformed by stunning geometric light installations that illuminate the beauty of the desert landscape in a new way. As the sun sets, LIGHT BLOOM comes to life, casting intricate shadows and vibrant hues across the Garden. Wander the trails and let the enchanting installations transport you to a magical realm where the natural world meets the abstract.

HYBYCOZO is the collaborative studio of artists Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk. Based in Los Angeles, their work consists of larger than life geometric sculptures, often with pattern and texture that draw on inspirations from mathematics, science, and natural phenomena. Typically illuminated, the work celebrates the inherent beauty of form and pattern and represents their ongoing journey in exploring the myriad dimensions of geometry. HYBYCOZO is short for the Hyperspace Bypass Construction Zone, a nod to their favorite novel (The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) and was the title of their first installation in 2014. They continue to create under this name. In the novel earth was being destroyed to make way for a bypass. It lead Serge and Yelena to ask what it means to make art at a time where the earth’s hospitable time in the universe may be limited.

Q: Walk us through your creative process?

A: The focus of our creative process is to explore the intricate interplay between geometry, light, space and to inspire contemplation, wonder and a sense of place among our audiences. Geometry and pattern-making serve as the backbone of our creative expression. It is the framework through which we navigate the complexities of form, proportion and spatial relationships. Patterns, both simple and complex, have a profound impact on our perception and understanding of the world. They possess the ability to evoke a sense of order, balance and aesthetic pleasure. Pattern making and geometry offer us a means of storytelling and communication. These patterns serve as conduits for deeper exploration, provoking introspection and contemplation to uncover the underlying symbols embedded within the human psyche.

Q: What inspired the concept of LIGHT BLOOM?

A: Just as many cactus and desert plants have evolved to produce night-blooming flowers, adapting to their environment and thriving in darkness, our sculptures come alive after sunset, blossoming with light and transforming the night into a glowing landscape of art and geometry.

Desert Botanical Garden has an incredible collection of plants and cacti arranged in a beautiful park setting.

Candles in memory of loved ones all over the world ~

We paused today on All Saints' Day to remember our loved ones who have gone on ahead of us. This season brings the bittersweet of memories- days with Jamie and others, thoughts so fleeting they seem like dreams . . .

In our own personal remembrances, many MANY of your loved ones have been remembered along with ours.

Thank you all for contributing to my survival here. Life has been hard but this virtual community continues to bouy me up.

With love and thoughts for you all ~ Kim

And the archiving of my work continues. Now I am getting all of the drawings (well over a hundred), from Noёl Riley Fitch and my book “Paris Café: The Sélect Crowd,” labelled and in order. They were done in sketchbooks between 1995 and 2007. My sketchbooks are dated and numbered. Luckily, I put the sketchbook number on the back of the drawings. They had been cut out. So, it was very easy to find the year each drawing was done. Still more to do…..

I continued my little trip where I left off last time and I found that nice little bay with a shack that was used to store boats, now it was empty. Nice little trip to the woods to calm my mind and relax myself.

Continuing to my Sun Magic series...

It feels good to start the day with golden sunrise magic :-)

...for one last day.

Good morning everyone and Happy Dragonfly Thursday. Featured today is a series on newly emerged Halloween Pennant (Celithemis eponina), usually the last of the three Pennant species found here locally to emerge each Spring.

As for these photos, they're a combination of both gender, with the above being a male, and all were taken at "tick city" at the reclaimed strip mine. And both gender when newly emerged look essentially the same. As with newly emerged Calico Pennants, the best way to distinguish between the two is by the length of the cerci at the end of the abdomen, which are longer on males, plus the last few segments tend to be narrower on males also.

Of the three species of local Pennant dragonflies the Halloween is the largest at approximately 1.5 inches in length (3.8 cm) versus both the Calico and Banded Pennants which range between 1.1 - 1.3 inches (2.5 - 3 cm).

As always, don't forget to click on "view previous comments" if you don't see the additional pics in the comment section. Even better, scroll through them by clicking on the arrow thingy to the right of the above pic. And if you want to view any picture in the comment section large all you have to do is click on it where you'll also find the full text describing this species of dragonfly.

Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you're having a truly nice week.

I am continuing working on getting some decent images of Mountain Bluebird inflight. I learned a lot more about the challenges today and got a few that I will share but I am still not there yet. It was a lot of fun doing it though.

She continues to "soldier on." After her cancer diagnosis was compounded by her diabetes, she started to go downhill rapidly, however, since I've regulated her insulin and radically changed her diet, she has rallied. I didn't think she would make it to her 12th birthday, and now we are just one month away from her 13th. She has been blind for almost a year now, but she has adjusted and compensated. My extraordinary cat, Batman, "shoulders" her away from furniture I accidentally don't return into place. He stepped into the caretaker and sleeping partner role after TinkerBell left home.

Continuing the series from Thanksgiving weekend, 1994...a D&H local returns to Kenwood Yard behind a CP GP9u running long hood forward. The location is milepost A1 on Canadian Pacific's Colonie Main Line, formerly Delaware & Hudson's Third Subdivision. I remember those triangular "Signal Territory Starts" signs and assume they dated back to the installation of CTC by the D&H. I believe the "Safety pays..." sign was installed after CP took over. Those two signs and the milepost have all since been removed or replaced.

Yesterday’s figures continue to provide hope that the corona emergency is easing while the epidemic continues to demand a high toll: 230 corona-related deaths were recorded and 211 patients were hospitalised, bringing the total number of people that are treated in hospital to 4,527. Meanwhile, the corona death toll in Belgium keeps attracting attention of the international press. Whilst the European press acknowledges that our figure is an overestimate and that it’s nearly as we are being too honest some US press is less diplomatic when talking about the mortality rate in Belgium: “Champion of Coronavirus” and “Belgian Corona Riddle” … Our virologists are urging caution when comparing figures and stress that we are the only country to include deaths in care homes. I think we all should realize that the corona crisis is not a race and that we'd be better off concentrating on finding the best way to count deaths instead of pointing fingers. In the midst of all of this, I continue with my daily corona walk documenting Ghent as it unrolls before my eyes… - Brugse Poort, Ghent, Belgium

Continuing "Car Week" - Seen five years ago, parked on the street here in Vancouver.

I am continuing to explore Pentacon Auto 50mm f/1.8 MC. I took this picture while on the morning walk today. A lot of Bird of Paradise flowers blooming right now. I love to take some off the beaten path images of them like the previous picture I posted, but this one is more of a regular image. With years of exploring and learning the art of capturing nature up close, I am more and more leaning into not so sharp dreamy pictures that are more like little paintings. Which image of these two did you like the best?

Continuing our look at Dwarf military units*, the Dwarven Bombard Squadron is a sight to behold. Powerful Dwarves, trudging along with cannons strapped to their backs. No wagons, no wheels needed.

The cannon units for other races are limited to somewhat level terrain for both travel and staging. Not so with the Dwarves. Your fortified city can suddenly find itself bombarded from surrounding mountain peaks.

With the added stealth and quickness of the Bombard troops, early warnings are almost eliminated and sieges can be set up and initiated with lightning rapidity.

Continuing our four year-strong tradition of sunset fall shoots in Stowe, Vermont - we're never stopping. This is one of our favourite photos from this year/maybe ever? It also happens to be from our last ever roll of Kodak Portra 400VC, which was discontinued like three years ago, but we've been hoarding it. Seems like the perfect send off for our all-time favourite film.

We're also offering this photo and three others from the same day as 8x8 prints on etsy, if you're into that sort of thing.
