FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii – Commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet, Fleet Adm. Cecil Haney, visited the U.S. Army Pacific Contingency Command Post to get a first-hand look at their operations and capabilities, on Fort Shafter, Hawaii, Nov. 7. CCP Soldiers illustrated some of these aspects to Haney via a mobile operations display at the CCP, consisting of a Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelter (DRASH), vehicles, communications equipment and Soldiers, set up as they would be for a forward mission.

Al Quba Medical Clinic ribbon-cutting.
CONTINGENCY OPERATING SITE MAREZ, Iraq – Adal Ismail, Director of Health for Ninewa province Adal Ismail cuts the ribbon commemorating the official opening of Al Quba Medical Clinic, Feb. 14, 2011. The clinic, funded by the U.S., is the first and only medical clinic in the village. Tom Baker, right, an officer in the Forward Engineering Support Team-Advanced, a part of the Reconstruction Cell at U.S. Division-North, attended the event to witness the completion of the project. Baker worked with local Iraqi government officials to complete the project for approximately 2,400 people who reside in Al Quba.
“The fact that we brought care to people in need makes me feel terrific,” said Baker, a native of Eagle River, Alaska, and the project manager for the clinic.

The Vermont National Guard sent a contingency of five soldiers along with Maj. Gen. Steven Cray, adjutant general, Vermont National Guard, to France celebrating the 100 year anniversary of the end of World War I. Each state that had National Guard representation in World War I were invited back to France to celebrate the anniversary. National Guardsmen visited monuments, cemeteries, villages, battle sites, trenches, museums, and attended ceremonies as part of their visit. The Center for Military History provided guides throughout the trip.

One characteristic that helps ensure Bedwell’s success as a chaplain assistant is passion, said Staff Sgt. CONTINGENCY OPERATING LOCATION Q-WEST, Iraq —Iraqi Army Soldiers of 1st Company, 2nd Battalion, 26th Brigade, who just voted in Ninawa Province during the special elections talk with Soldiers of Crusader Troop, 1st Squadron, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment of the Tennessee Army National Guard headquartered in Henderson, Tenn. These Iraqi Soldiers were permitted to vote along with other security personnel prior to the regular parliamentary elections scheduled for March 7. The Iraqi Army provides a protection force for a pump house on the Tigris River in Ninawa Province, and the 1/278th ACR, who has just recently occupied Q West, will be conducting patrols to that area on a regular basis, even after the completion of the election.

Members of the Kentucky Air National Guard’s 123rd Contingency Response Group participate in a weeklong exercise called Operation Huron Thunder at the Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena, Mich., from July 22 to 27, 2018. The 123rd CRG worked in conjunction with the U.S. Army’s 690th Rapid Port Opening Element to operate a Joint Task Force-Port Opening. The objective of the JTF-PO is to establish an aerial port of debarkation, provide initial distribution capability and set up warehousing for distribution beyond a forward node. Airmen assigned to the 621st Contingency Response Wing, process through a personnel deployment function (PDF) line during an operational readiness inspection at Travis AFB, Feb. 1, 2016. The base is currently conducting Crisis Look 16-01, to evaluate rapid mobile global readiness. The PDF line ensured Airmen were medically, legally and financially ready to deploy. CONTINGENCY OPERATING SITE WARRIOR, Iraq – “Guardian” Soldiers of 101st Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Advise and Assist Task Force, 1st Infantry Division, compete in the Ultimate Guardian Competition at Contingency Operating Site Warrior, June 4, 2011. The 101st BSB’s mid-tour organizational day event consisted of sit-ups, push-ups, a two-mile run, a water jug carry race, and football and basketball tournaments, with each team competing for the title of “Ultimate Guardian.”
