Highsmith, Carol M.,, 1946-, photographer.
A contented cat at Yoder's Amish Home, an authentic Amish farm that began accepting visitors in 1983 near Walnut Creek in central Ohio, along the "Amish Country Byway"

A wide assortment of farm animals and pets roam freely here. The Amish are a simple-living, plain-dressing, mostly rural people, originating in Central Europe, whose society spread from Pennsylvania and other eastern American states into rural areas to the west, beginning in Ohio.

Spring 2016: One of my favourite shots of Tristan and Thea ... she adored food and always headed right for it with single-minded determination while Tristan, feeling proud of himself on this day, just had to lift his head with an almighty SNORT.
They spent many happy quiet times in this spot.
Laughing Kookaburra ... The largest Australia kingfisher and the best known. I had two encounters with this species during my short visit to Melbourne. In both cases, I didn't hear it "laugh" at all but just seeing it perched comfortably. Taken at Philip Island, Vic.
As the sun spills into the Casa Al Mare, it illuminates a medley of festivities. A rainbow lorikeet adds its lively chirps, harmonizing with the rhythmic snores of a contented Bengal cat and a dozing Spaniel puppy on the sofa. The air carries the delightful blend of sea breeze, pine, orange, peppermint candy cane, and the comforting aroma of hot tea and cookies. A festive afternoon tea beckons, followed by the waves awaiting a cherished Christmas on the beach.

Amidst creating these Christmas scenes, a sense of conflict has lingered for me. In countries south of the equator such as New Zealand, Christmas occurs during the summer period. A kiwi equates Christmas to Pohutukawa Trees (a New Zealand Christmas Tree) and enjoying Christmas on the beach. That’s why I was excited to hear much of the swank crew are in Argentina where it is also a hot summer Christmas! Hence the inspiration for the photo.
One thing I’ve always associated with Christmas is Rainbow Lorikeets - as a child we would visit my aunties house for Christmas, and she had a little Rainbow Lorikeet called Pip, who would jump around and shriek “Hello, I’m Pip!”. The ambiance of Dead's Casa Al Mare sparks nostalgia also, reminiscent of a summer house from my past. So this scene for me is nostalgic, with memories of cherished past moments.
A delightful spree at Swank unveiled some charming additions to the space. Notably, the suitcase beneath the Bricolage armchair doubles as an RLV wardrobe, offering the convenience of changing outfits with a simple click. And I absolutely love Spargel & Shine Homes pillows which pair nicely with the Bricolage Mango Sofa set. In addition, Bricolage and Elm have put out a few cute little festive group gifts this month that are worth taking a look at, some of which have been depicted.
Don't miss out on this round of Swank, available for exploration from the 7th to the 29th of December - go check it out now!

This baby photo was captured in my "home studio" which I have also included a setup shot below. The wooden board was purchased at Home Depot for about $8 and is covered with a $15 chenille throw from Target. I bought a few so that I can quickly change the background color as applicable. The clips were purchased also from Home Depot for $0.99 each. Only 2 are shown here, but I actually used 4 to keep the throw taut. Natural light was my only light source, and I've got so much sun light through the windows that I actually had to keep the blinds closed (at least until late afternoon when the sun is not as intense).
This was a very long shoot. The baby arrived at noon but in between crying, nursing, peeing, and pooping, we didn't finish until about 5PM. I will try to upload more photos as I process them through Photoshop.
PS: I would like to thank Baby Session Setup for all its tips, tricks, and ideas.
I could not make my mind up in terms of what to call this and settled for 'contented' but might equally have called him 'wise looking' - he looks both wise and contented to me. Perhaps one leads to the other!
Saturday. (Insert contented and relieved sigh here.)
It's been such a long week! Perhaps, in part, because it was my first full week of school (darn you, bronchitis!) and perhaps, in part, because it was just stinking long! Friday was the culmination...one of those days that isn't bad but just isn't good, either. You know?
Still, today is Saturday. I have to run out and get my dad a gift for his 60th (that I can't believe) birthday. I intend to have camera in hand while Hubby drives...
Must. Get. More. Barn. Shots.
I think I'm going to like today very much.
Have a great weekend, fellow flickrites! I'm off to bask in the beauty of your photostreams!

I don't quite know what these bees is their particular poses have to do with these attributes. (They kind of look like dead bees to me but are still interesting & kind of nice....)
This Scaup was spotted sitting contentedly on a branch that was lying just below the surface...!
It's the first time I've found a Scaup that's not swimming or diving; what a refreshing difference...!
Thanks so much for the very kind and encouraging comments beneath this photo...! Your support is very greatly appreciated.
"Actual happiness always looks pretty squalid in comparison with the overcompensations for misery. And of course stability isn't nearly so spectacular as instability. And being contented has none of the glamour of a good fight against misfortune, none of the picturesqueness of a struggle with temptation, or a fatal overthrow by passion or doubt. Happiness is never grand." Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

Contented myself with window bird watching this morning. Light was poor & a bit more over night snow but that was melting well by lunchtime.
I have 5/6 pairs of Woodpigeon living in my garden & getting fat on spillage under the feeders
Finding Lucy contentedly curled up in the laundry basket, Grant does his best to get her to play. She is pretty tolerant of this, bless her, though when Grant becomes too pesty, she has no problem giving him a softpaw swat.
Grant finds this to be excessively charming every time, and Lucy's rebuffs seem only to encourage him.
We came upon this herd of cattle grazing by a big tree along the Fredericksburg Road near Ruckersville, Virginia. I found them to be rather photogenic.

I exist as I am -- that is enough;
If no other in the world be aware, I sit content;
And if each and all be aware, I sit content.
One world is aware, and by far the largest to me, and that is myself;
And whether I come to my own to-day, or in ten thousand or ten million years,
I can cheerfully take it now, or with equal cheerfulness I can wait.
My foothold is tenon'd and mortis'd in granite;
I laugh at what you call dissolution;
And I know the amplitude of time.
-Walt Whitman
I'm finding it easier to sneak up on sleeping ducks than it is to catch them in mid flight.
This pair of Mergansers were enjoying a brief sunny interlude on Sunday afternoon at what little open water remains in Bronte Harbour Marina.
I'm coming to the end of my zoo shots, so be patient. Despite its name waterbuck, this species is less dependent on water than others of its genus, which is a good thing because there was no (or little) water that I could detect in its enclosure. The most conspicuous feature of this antelope is a large white 'halo' or beige ring which surrounds the base of the tail on the rump. You can see that field mark on this photo. Here's more information about waterbucks.
sugarbearsteve has some lovely closeups from our trip to the zoo together.

Niestety, krótki dzień nie sprzyja cierpliwemu oczekiwaniu na pociągi towarowe, więc dziś zadowoliłem się lokomotywą jadącą luzem.
Unfortunately, the short daylight hours do not encourage patient waiting for freight trains, so today I contented myself with a locomotive running freely.
Sunshine Ella - the sun shines through the glass porch and is one of Ella's favourite spots to grab a few zzzzzz's.
You might think she is asleep but one click of the biscuit tin lid and she snaps into life.
UPDATE: Sadly, Ella collapsed and died on Jan 19th 2018. She had a huge tumour which no-one knew about. It burst inside her and she was gone in less than 90 minutes. She was 13 years old.
