.............but apparently contented (or perhaps just resigned) downy woodpecker. Every few minutes he would shake off the water and then go right back to excavating. He seemed much less put off by the circumstances than I, for he was still vigorously drumming away when I headed for a drier abode.
We both felt very contented today. Despite being unwell I took Penny to the dam and we just sat and watched all the coloured dragonflies buzzing around.
The day was cool (altlast) but just warm enough to make it ever so pleasant.
First one I've seen for ages. A very patient butterfly that sat quite contentedly on the boardwalk to let me get its photo taken.

Very contented sea lions taking it easy at Pier 39 in San Francisco. No shortage of food and a nice protected environment make this a popular spot for sea lions to hang out.
Mourning Doves. These doves were sitting side by side preening each other, but I could not get a clear shot until they moved to this branch. Still they are obviously very attached to one another and are very contented in each others company.

My wonderfully happy granddaughter Riley, who was so happy all day long. We didn't know it at the time but a tooth was coming through which is why her hands are in her mouth a lot.
Saxon often takes himself off with the ball when he feels like a rest from retrieving, but is always ready for another throw when I reach down to get the ball :-)

A Peregrine Falcon with ruffled feathers at York Center for Wildlife, Maine. The Latin name for the species is Falco peregrinus.
This lucky Moroccan kitty had a good home. I was impressed, though, that the people generally seemed well disposed to stray cats and fed them and often provided a sack or similar for them to sleep on.

Hard times, easy dreams. Laughter riding a twilight summer night, on the way to the Odeon Theatre. Stolen hours drinking beers and trading stories with friends in trucks in the parking lots with building-long murals keeping your secrets. And at the Buckaroo Motel, on the outskirts of the town, hearing the laboring chug of trains interspersed with the contented musings of crickets.

Spring 2016: One of my favourite shots of Tristan and Thea ... she adored food and always headed right for it with single-minded determination while Tristan, feeling proud of himself on this day, just had to lift his head with an almighty SNORT.
They spent many happy quiet times in this spot.
Laughing Kookaburra ... The largest Australia kingfisher and the best known. I had two encounters with this species during my short visit to Melbourne. In both cases, I didn't hear it "laugh" at all but just seeing it perched comfortably. Taken at Philip Island, Vic.
As the sun spills into the Casa Al Mare, it illuminates a medley of festivities. A rainbow lorikeet adds its lively chirps, harmonizing with the rhythmic snores of a contented Bengal cat and a dozing Spaniel puppy on the sofa. The air carries the delightful blend of sea breeze, pine, orange, peppermint candy cane, and the comforting aroma of hot tea and cookies. A festive afternoon tea beckons, followed by the waves awaiting a cherished Christmas on the beach.

Amidst creating these Christmas scenes, a sense of conflict has lingered for me. In countries south of the equator such as New Zealand, Christmas occurs during the summer period. A kiwi equates Christmas to Pohutukawa Trees (a New Zealand Christmas Tree) and enjoying Christmas on the beach. That’s why I was excited to hear much of the swank crew are in Argentina where it is also a hot summer Christmas! Hence the inspiration for the photo.
One thing I’ve always associated with Christmas is Rainbow Lorikeets - as a child we would visit my aunties house for Christmas, and she had a little Rainbow Lorikeet called Pip, who would jump around and shriek “Hello, I’m Pip!”. The ambiance of Dead's Casa Al Mare sparks nostalgia also, reminiscent of a summer house from my past. So this scene for me is nostalgic, with memories of cherished past moments.
A delightful spree at Swank unveiled some charming additions to the space. Notably, the suitcase beneath the Bricolage armchair doubles as an RLV wardrobe, offering the convenience of changing outfits with a simple click. And I absolutely love Spargel & Shine Homes pillows which pair nicely with the Bricolage Mango Sofa set. In addition, Bricolage and Elm have put out a few cute little festive group gifts this month that are worth taking a look at, some of which have been depicted.
Don't miss out on this round of Swank, available for exploration from the 7th to the 29th of December - go check it out now!

Ingrid was just posing here for Pepi, who was trying to unite both Ingrid's portrait and the autumnal discoloured trench Adlitzgraeben with their picturesque rocks together in one great photo. Unnoticed, I contented myself in the meantime with Ingrid's profile.
I could not make my mind up in terms of what to call this and settled for 'contented' but might equally have called him 'wise looking' - he looks both wise and contented to me. Perhaps one leads to the other!
Saturday. (Insert contented and relieved sigh here.)
It's been such a long week! Perhaps, in part, because it was my first full week of school (darn you, bronchitis!) and perhaps, in part, because it was just stinking long! Friday was the culmination...one of those days that isn't bad but just isn't good, either. You know?
Still, today is Saturday. I have to run out and get my dad a gift for his 60th (that I can't believe) birthday. I intend to have camera in hand while Hubby drives...
Must. Get. More. Barn. Shots.
I think I'm going to like today very much.
Have a great weekend, fellow flickrites! I'm off to bask in the beauty of your photostreams!
(More textures from Distressed Jewell's new texture pack plus one of her new bird brushes...can you find it in there?)
According to the scant information I turned up searching online, the expression to be “as contented as a cow” came from an early-1900s advertising slogan that was used by a dairy company to promote their milk. Wherever the saying came from, I thought these cows and bulls looked contented last night (Friday 11th September) when I photographed them under the clear and calm skies near Nerriga, Australia. The bottle-green hue of the background sky in my image comes from a phenomenon called “atmospheric airglow”. This natural colouring of the night occurs in several shades, but this green is my favourite.
The dark blotches and streaks on the sky aren’t smudges on my camera’s lens, but show the presence of dark gas clouds–nebulae–that are light-years away in space. These structures block the light from the millions of stars behind them and have been used by Australia’s indigenous people for navigation, seasonal indicators and cultural markers for many millennia.
Around one-third of the way up from the bottom of the shot, and about one third in from the left, you can see a crimson-coloured blotch of light, shining from the Eta Carinae nebula.
My photo is a single-frame image, captured with a Canon EOS 6D Mk II camera, a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art lens @ f/2.8, using an exposure time of 15 seconds @ ISO 6400.
