Not actually from the London Flickr Photowalk around Shadwell and Wapping back in February but taken about twenty minutes afterwards as I continued walking along the river as darkness fell.

I really liked the contrast between the warm lighting and the cold tones of the blue hour in this shot of a hotel next to the Tower of London. Having checked, the hotel in the foreground is the rather plush Dubai-owned Cheval Three Quays, a 5 star hotel with one bed apartments starting at about £500 per night : www.chevalcollection.com/cheval-three-quays/

From the hotels website, "Situated on the banks of the River Thames immediately adjacent to the Tower of London and just a short walk from Tower Hill Underground Station, Cheval Three Quays features a selection of 159 modern luxury apartments, available to book for any length of stay. Cheval Three Quays has a range of accommodation, from intelligently designed studio and open-plan apartments to grand penthouses with views of some of London’s most iconic landmarks, including The Shard and HMS Belfast. Whether you’re staying for just one night, or for months at a time, you can expect five-star service and the personal touch."

sap garden, munich. the sky is marked, crossed out. as if something was erased here. below, a man. small, almost forgotten. above him, a wall of steel and glass, bending like frozen waves. time stands still, yet something is moving. maybe him, maybe the sky.

Designed by architects WZMH, and built in 1984, the west tower is slightly shorter than the west tower. But they are virtual mirror images and in this shot you can see the reflection of the east tower in the glass facade of the west. And inside that reflection is the reflection of the west tower itself.

When architecture starts to dream of itself.

First time back to the Highline Park in NYC since first seeing it in 2014. What a change in 7 years. It was wide open then (and, yes, a sunny day). Now, everything is closed in, the vegetation grown, everything built up with high-rises right up to the line. No more open space or views to let the mind wonder (and, yes, It was gloomy day).

All of these shots are wide-angle shots with the 16-35 lens.

Something very different from my usual postings :-). I am fascinated by the architecture of Santiago Calatrava. In a building with lots of people moving around, it is better to focus on some details. So here are some details of the roof of the Oculus building in Manhattan.

The "Barcode Project" is a section of the Fjord City Redevelopment on former dock and industrial land in central Oslo. It consists of a row of new multi-purpose high-rise buildings. The project was basically completed in 2016.

in this vast space of structure and silence, two figures move – one toward us, one into the distance. one small, one grown. one running, one waiting. under the great canopy of design, all you hear is the soft echo of steps and the whisper of light on polished floor. it’s not about scale. it’s about presence – how we pass through spaces, how they hold us, how they let us go.m

Looking straight up one of the large student blocks by the canal at Fountainbridge.

A signature example of radical "Bowellism" architecture wherein the services for a building are located on the exterior to maximise space in the interior.

Only twenty-five years after completion in 1986 the building received Grade I listing - the shortest wait ever for this status.

I was amazed by the ceiling in this room, which symbolized for me the Tree of Knowledge at the Gottesman Research Library and Learning Center of the Museum of Natural History in New York. It was designed by Studio Gang, the international and urban practice design firm led by Jeanne Gang, and was reopened in 2023.

Another shot from May's London Flickr Group Photowalk in and around the Kings Cross / St Pancras area.

Last time I saw this Coffey Architects building at 22 Handyside, just behind Coal Drops Yard it wasn't quite complete so it was good to shoot the perforated hit-and-miss facade this time around.

These free photowalks are usually about every 4-6 weeks so keep an eye on the group for details of upcoming events : www.flickr.com/groups/londonflickrgroup

From the Kingscross.co.uk website, "22 Handyside Street is built of lightweight concrete and steel, with a façade composed of glazed curtain walling and perforated aluminium panels. These silver sections enliven the building both inside and out, with perforations artfully reflecting the trees of Handyside Gardens. The material maximises ambient light levels and reflects the colours of the London sky throughout the day. The main east/west axis along Handyside Street creates filigree moments of light at sunrise and sunset. Behind the patterned façade, its interior spaces are lit with naturally dappled light, enhancing wellbeing for those working in the building."

The two-story, 41,441 square foot structure has 11 galleries, a large auditorium with 350 seats that retract from the floor, a number of multilevel roof terraces for events and art installations, and a lower level that includes a pond and permanently installed artwork.

the sun played tricks here, casting its lines and shadows on concrete curves. two figures walked the edge, like tightrope walkers on the ground, framed by geometry and reflections in the still water. this is valencia, bold and modern, yet soft and timeless, where light meets structure, and the day whispers its stories.

Glass and steel stairwell on the side of a car park, lit up on a fairly dark street on the walk back to the hotel from the book festival, quick snap with the phone.

The Renaissance Center (aka GM Renaissance Center) is a group of seven interconnected skyscrapers in downtown Detroit, on the shore of the Detroit River. The complex is owned by General Motors, which uses it as its world headquarters. The central tower, the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center with its curved glass-clad facade, is the second tallest all-hotel skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere. It has been the tallest building in Michigan since it was erected in 1977. The principal architect was John Portman.
