Just a simple brick-built Mr. Freeze suit. Lately, well for a couple of weeks, I’ve had a drought in terms of ideas for creations. This is not entirely true however, since I’ve thought of many creations that I just cannot build because of a lack of overall bricks or a lack specific pieces (I'm just going to give up and order that Trans-yellow). This Mr. Freeze suit was for one of those builds, whose signature piece is not in my collection…yet.

Anyways, this design is inspired by the more robust and bulky look of Mr. Freeze from Arkham Origins. The main design aspect of this suit was the helmet, which while not locking completely in place, does not shift around. I also gave him an oversized freeze gun, because oversized guns always look spectacular. My only regret with this is, as always is the case with brick built figures, are the legs—which do not look exactly as I want them to; apparently the ray-gun piece is not exactly identical on both sides of its stud connections (Meaning the right leg sticks out slightly farther then the left leg).

Anywho, on the plus side, I’m out of this slump and about to start my largest Marvel creation to date. This time…I’m just going to assume I have all the parts and worry about it later!

A favourite holiday destination with locals, Umhlanga’s beaches are packed with both locals and tourists in season (and often out of season as well, thanks to the temperate climate). The paved walkway allows visitors to explore the number of beachfront restaurants in Umhlanga before heading to the notorious Umhlanga Lighthouse. This beautiful beach is known for its safe swimming waters, making it ideal for families with small children or for those that are wary around the ocean. It is no small feat to have achieved Blue Flag status, and Umhlanga Rocks is proud of carrying this esteemed title. This is only awarded to beaches that are clean, safe, aesthetically pleasing, and actively promote environmental responsibility and education. This is one of only seven Blue Flag beaches in the province. Although relatively quiet, Umhlanga Beach is still popular amongst tourists, who love to stroll the long stretches (both sandy and paved) and see the restaurants and hotels perched along the coast. The Umhlanga Lighthouse is also in this vicinity and remains a landmark attraction. Make sure you book into one of the Umhlanga Hotels so the beach is right on your doorstep for an early morning stroll or swim before breakfast.

A cresting view in the rail trail bridge... crossing over the highway below.

Seeing as how containment is currently in storage, I figured I'd simply build another one so that I could put it on my shelf. I tried putting motors, ipods and lights in this one but they didn't fit.

As firefighters continue to work toward full containment of the rash of wildfires burning in Northern California, a new image from the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal mission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument on NASA's Terra satellite shows the growing fire scar on the landscape. In this ASTER image, acquired Oct. 21, 2017, vegetation is red, while burned areas appear dark gray. The image covers an area of 38 by 39 miles (60.5 by 63 kilometers) and is located near 38.5 degrees north, 122.4 degrees west.

I realized when I posted that last picture of the Firehouse that I had gone through all the trouble of building a subterranean level for the Ghostbusters, and I hadn't done anything to make it look like their actual basement. So I tore the sewer apart and rebuilt it with all the trimmings: a containment unit, warning lights, an electrical box, and stairs that actually ascend up into the Firehouse. And the grid up above makes for some nice light effects on the tan wall.

The larger sewer still continues on and connects with the other playsets.

Evergreen Paper Food Containment Packaging Products Facility private railroad yard EMD SW1001 switcher is waiting for its next assignment at Canton, North Carolina, 9-16-2022. The Paper Facility has a moderate sized private railroad yard that appears to need quite a bit of car switching services. The name on the switcher is interesting and it is called "Target Zero," however; I don't know the reason why?

Spartan Bomb Squad Truck 4. Used to carry containment vessel and tow Bomb Squad Trailer 9.

Blue Ridge Southern Railroad tele view of the second portion of the yard that is situated across the Pigeon River Bridge at Canton, North Carolina, 9-16-2022. The first portion of the yard which is nearest the camera is the loction where the locomotives are serviced and maintained along with numerous tracks for the storage of cars. When first across the railroad bridge there is a track that turns out directly to the right which is the lead that enters the Evergreen Paper Food Containment Packaging Facility private railroad yard. In the second portion of the yard you can see many highside open hopper cars that are full of wood chips.

Day 150 (v 9.0) - keeping the bad ideas in

I much prefer the 5x7 aspect ratio when working with large format collodion negatives, so I made this alternate version of "Containment Vessel #1" on 5x7 with the old B&J Watson and my 203mm Kodak Ektar lens. Its a great lens for plenty of different applications, but since it has a maximum opening of f7.7, its often less ideal for work where I want to maintain plenty of OOF (out of focus) areas in the image. This frame was shot wide open at f7.7, and it has TOO MUCH depth of field for what I wanted. Still, its always a good idea to test various pieces of equipment to determine suitability for a project.

PS: you can see I missed focus just a wee bit too. Ugh.

Collodion used was Quinn Jacobson's Collodion for Negatives, and the accompanying developer. Exposure was 6 minutes under artificial light.

So I have turned this into a bit of an exercise in lens evaluation. This time I shot this still life with the 4x5 Intrepid and the Schneider Xenotar f2.8 lens (105mm) to see how things rendered. This lens is made for a much smaller format than 4x5 so you can see significant vignetting in the corners. Sometimes that is an asset, sometimes not so much.

I'm surprised at how different the rendering of the scene is using the Xenotar, compared to the Kodak Ektar 12". There's really a huge difference! The Ektar delivers a much softer, more pleasing image, in my opinion.

What do YOU think? Do you have a favorite so far? Next comes the Voigtlander Petzval on 5x7!

Bringing a ladder or using a drone would be best.
