Got these plants yesterday at the home & garden show.
After the wettest, grayest, nastiest winter I can remember we got an early reprieve. I've spent the past few weeks weeding & mulching. Now it's time for real gardening. We also have some major tlc repair work to do to the lawn, no thanks to the freaking city :P
Some of my friends send me things in these little containers. I usually photograph what is in the container but decide to switch it up.

Cheap Dollar store containers. Not autoclavable so I'll try cleaning them in bleach or NaDCC solution for using as tissue culture vessels.

For so long shipping containers provided quick workspaces, offices, stops, storerooms and more. The 'Container Mall' popped up quickly post quake. There are still a few dotted around.
This container made from a coconut shell was collected in Lae, Papua New Guinea, in 1973. The coconut shell has been carefully fashioned and carved with a traditional design. Containers such as these were often used for collecting the offering during church services, much as a collection plate or bag is used in churches elsewhere. This container is part of the Pacific Islands Artefacts section of Roslyn Russell Museum Services' collection.
Now the geraniums (started from seed over a year ago) are outside after sitting in sun room all winter. They will be trimmed in a week or so. See where they were all winter:

Container City is a small shopping area in Cholula that is created out of shipping containers. It is so cool to see old rusty cantainers repainted and converted into book stores, hair salon, restaurants, coffee shops etc.

My plumeria cuttings update: They are thriving! Looks like the larger cutting already has mature leaves so I can start to water it sparingly, or until the soil is (almost) totally dry. The smaller cutting is growing slower but shows growth progress as days pass. The smaller cutting also shows an inflo (or flower stalk) growing which is a good sign.
More about plumerias:
Plumerias are tropical trees and are famous for their beautiful flowers which are used to make leis (flower garlands). In regions with colder climates, plumerias can be grown in containers and brought indoors during the winter months. Plumerias have thick stems, leathery leaves, and an abundance of flowers from early summer until fall. In the tropics, some varieties can even grow to a height of over 30 feet! The plumeria's waxy, 2-4-inch flowers are very fragrant. Flower colors include pink, red, white, and yellow. Plumerias are commonly planted in containers and make excellent cut flowers. I hope my cuttings bloom in the near future! Surprisingly, I am also seeing inflos (flower stalks) growing on both of my cuttings, woohoo! Time to start thinking about giving them fertilizer...
