I found this place to be very interesting. There are excellent views of the Port of Felixstowe, which by tonnage is the busiest port in Britain. The berth in this photograph can hold the biggest ships in the world, and it is possible to view them at close quarters. As they enter or leave the port they sail within a hundred yards of Landguard. The white tower is the beacon which guides ships in and out. Lighthouses are almost redundant now, in the age of electronic satellite navigation.
MSC Vega has a deadweight of almost 150,000 tons. She left Felixstowe on the following day, and on 30th September she was anchored off Port Said in Egypt, presumably waiting to enter the Suez Canal. As one ship leaves this berth another enters almost immediately. These mega ships hop around the big container ports of the world, without it ever being apparent exactly what they carry. The AIS website describes MSC Vega's cargo as Hazard A (Major).

As well as the giant container ships, there is a lot of other traffic entering Harwich, Ipswich and Felixstowe to be seen at Landguard. You can also catch a foot ferry to Harwich from here.

Container for making Collyrium and storing Vermillion.
This cast bronze container has three discs with shallow cavities for storing collyrium and vermillion. The discs are attached to a revette and are opened for use by sliding away one from another.
The top disc is held over the flame of an oil-lamp to collect soot in its cavity which is later turned into Collyrium by mixing ghee, camphor etc.
Provenance, Treasures of Wisdoms private collection.
Comments most welcome.

This tea container was made for Hangzhou tea. It is decorated with images of West Lake. It does not say what type of tea was in it, but I assume it was Dragon Well Tea.
