Egyptian Consulate Building in Bebek. The Egyptian Consulate Building was built in 1902 as a summer home for Princess Emina Ilhamy. She was an Egyptian princess. Her father was a great-grandson of Muhammad Ali Paşa, who had declared himself viceroy of Egypt and Sudan in 1805 and who is credited as laying the foundation for modern Egypt because of the military, cultural and economic reforms he implemented during his reign. Her mother was a daughter of Sultan Abdülmecid I. Her son Abbas II was the last Ottoman viceroy over Egypt , as the British seized the country at the outbreak of WW I while Abbas II was away in Switzerland and installed his uncle Hussein Kamel as Sultan of Egypt. The Princess died in this palace in 1931.

took the kids to renew their mexican passports in downtown san francisco. arrived to find, in typical mexican fashion, many "entrepreneurs." the folks who set up a passport photo stand in the alley next door, the taco truck, the albaniles looking for work. the consulate itself even makes you call a special number that charges by the minute in order to make an appointment.
though the sign on the wall sums it up: this consulate has no relationship with any of the business surrounding it.
