The spring of this year (2019) was wet in northwestern Wyoming and as a result numerous mudslides occured. On April 19,2018, Part of the Chief Joseph Highway slipped away. All summer there has been one way traffic in the area of the slide. This fall a construction project to stabilized the highway and rebuild it commenced. They are working around the clock. In this view from atop Dead Undian hill, the lights of the construcrion project really stand out. Numerous cars can also be seen moving along the highway.

I believe this is a new access ramp for cyclist and pedestrian crossing on the north side of the George Washington Bridge. I did like the way the trees have been trimmed to frame the view of the bridge.

A Walter Netsch/ SOM project built in Colorado Springs, Colorado, from1956 to 1962. The chapel, in a cold temperate, rural campus area, is portrayed in an Expressionist Modern style. The chapel is interpreted to be massed like a phalanx of fighter jets shooting up into the sky. (http://www.greatbuildings.com/buildings/Air_Force_Academy_Chapel.htm)

We toured the U.S. Air Force Academy on a Saturday afternoon. There were two weddings scheduled, so unfortunately, we were not able to photograph the gorgeous interior of the building this trip. This was my first visit to Colorado, and I fell in love with the area. I am anticipating a return trip.

Most people would probably not find this interesting...but, I am periodically shooting the progress of this overpass construction project. I think it is projected as a $600 million project. YIKES!

Shot through my Acura’s sun roof, upside down. It needed straightening and I added perspective control to that fix. Snapseed did the job.

“At its founding, the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) inherited the Army's Jupiter and Redstone test stands, but much larger facilities were needed for the giant stages of the Saturn V. From 1960 to 1964, the existing stands were remodeled and a sizable new test area was developed. The new comprehensive test complex for propulsion and structural dynamics was unique.

Construction of the S-IC Static test stand complex began in 1961 in the west test area of MSFC, and was completed in 1964. The S-IC static test stand was designed to develop and test the 138-ft long and 33-ft diameter Saturn V S-IC first stage, weighing in at 280,000 pounds. Required to hold down the brute force of a 7,500,000-pound thrust produced by 5 F-1 engines, the S-IC static test stand was designed and constructed with the strength of hundreds of tons of steel and 12,000,000 pounds of cement, planted down to bedrock 40 feet below ground level. The foundation walls, constructed with concrete and steel, are 4 feet thick. The base structure consists of four towers with 40-foot-thick walls extending upward 144 feet above ground level. The structure was topped by a crane with a 135-foot boom. With the boom in the upright position, the stand was given an overall height of 405 feet, placing it among the highest structures in Alabama at the time. In addition to the stand itself, related facilities were constructed during this time. Built northeast of the stand was a newly constructed Pump House. Its function was to provide water to the stand to prevent melting damage during testing. The water was sprayed through small holes in the stand's 1900-ton flame deflector at the rate of 320,000 gallons per minute. In this photo, possibly taken late-1963 - early/mid-1964, the flame deflector is being installed in the S-IC test stand.”

This park is next to the campus of University of the Cumberlands where my cousin, Jessica, attends. It's a beautiful campus. I wish I had taken some photos of it as we were driving around looking for that McDonald's restaurant. I'll have to get some pics of it next year.

Already way behind schedule, plagued by cost overruns and unforeseen contingencies, completion is further delayed now that a much needed inspection has been rescheduled.

On a positive note, so far the building inspectors have been relatively pleased, and the Fire Marshal has just arrived.

Who knew there was so much drama in refurbishment?

Capital Dock is one of the largest mixed-use developments ever built in Ireland and it was completed towards the end of 2018 but I was unable to gain access to the completed project until Easter weekend 2019. The compex spans 4.8 acres, providing more than 690,000sq ft of new mixed-use space, including offices, retail and family units, as well as more than 1.5 acres of public park space.

Global investment bank JP Morgan and jobs site Indeed have committed to occupy all of the available office space, and are preparing their new premises for occupancy in 2019.

Nearly 200 family units will be available to rent this year, with a dedicated on-site concierge, resident lounges, cinema, professional gym, business suites and a chef’s kitchen. There is also be a landscaped park and square open to the public.

The project will welcome new retailers in the coming year, including a restaurant and bar with a terrace, a gourmet grocer, and additional food and beverage offerings.

It takes some trial and error, but you can put 12 of these composite material wheel stops in the loader without tipping it over.

Of course, as everyone knows, it's all bollards these days...
