Conservation is the philosophy that natural resources should be used cautiously so that they will remain available for future generations of people. In practice, conservation is the act of protecting, managing, and restoring shared earth resources such as soil, air, forests, minerals, petroleum, wildlife, and water—one of humans’ most essential resources.

Effective policies, trained and united staff contribute to sustainable financing of Ukraine’s

protected areas.

The

Ukrainian Association of Protected Areas has

been established, uniting 24 out of 45 national

parks to strengthen coordinated action and

enable exchange of experience among their

staff, thereby increasing their capacity to raise

funds to support their protected areas.

The project has prepared a strategy for the overall financial sustainability of the protected area system, which is being submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval, along with other legal amendments and a new regulation on assessment of management effectiveness of protected areas.

At the 140-acre Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, jaws drop in awe-even those of longtime Alaskans who've studied grizzlies and other animals up close. AWCC's mission is to provide refuge for orphaned, injured, and ill animals-those that can't survive in the wild. The center, which opened to the public in 1993, also educates visitors about Alaska's wildlife. On your visit, you might see a Siberian boar snoozing, moose foraging, baby moose napping, plus caribou, elk, bison, baby Sitka black-tailed deer, eagles, and other animals. The musk oxen are worth the visit all by themselves.
