Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou (Greek: Ευάγγελος Οδυσσέας Παπαθανασίου; 29 March 1943 – 17 May 2022), known professionally as Vangelis (/væŋˈɡɛlɪs/ vang-GHEL-iss; Greek: Βαγγέλης), was a Greek musician, composer, songwriter and producer of electronic, progressive, ambient, and classical orchestral music. He was best known for his Academy Award-winning score to Chariots of Fire (1981), as well as for composing scores to the films Blade Runner (1982), Missing (1982), Antarctica (1983), The Bounty (1984), 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992), and Alexander (2004), and for the use of his music in the 1980 PBS documentary series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage by Carl Sagan.
Having had a career in music spanning over 50 years and having composed and performed more than 50 albums, Vangelis is considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of electronic music, and modern film music. He was known for using many electronic instruments in a fashion of a "one-man quasi-classical orchestra" composing and performing on the first take.
(from Wikipedia)
Blade Runner is my one of my all-time favorite movies, its soundtrack is spectacular. I guess almost of us have heard some of Vangelis' music sometimes and have felt something warm inside of us.
This is my tribute to him.

For our last day in Mexico, we were spoiled by the visit of Valladolid, a charming little town north of Yucatan.
At the Municipal Palace, we have seen remarkable murals on the history of Yucatan.
The most beautiful of them represents the conquest of Yucatan by the Spaniards.

I really enjoyed the sunset in this evocative lonely place located in the middle of the vast plains of La Mancha, as it seemed to be, at times, a true fierce battle between light and shadows for the conquest of the ruins of a lost realm.

Those of you familiar with 80’s ambient electronic music might appreciate the title’s nod to a track by Greek artist Vangelis, of whom I’ve been a fan since I watched the first Bladerunner movie in my teens. I might’ve played it once or twice while processing!
The peak in the background that the boss of the squadron (and friend) is passing in front of is Skollis, in southwestern Achaea, Peloponnese, a mountain popular with hikers and is approximately the same height above sea level as Yr Wyddfa, the highest peak in Wales & England.
I just about managed to frame a shot of one of the jets as they passed us, twisting backwards to shoot through a few heads!
Being near the ramp for this sunset flight, I couldn’t get close to the windows but I don’t think I did too bad with side-ons looking back at what I managed.
More Phantom air to air images to follow!

Habakkuk 1:9 “Their armies advance in violent conquest, and everyone is terrified as they approach. Their captives are as numerous as grains of sand.”
The pretty little village of Wiveton is situated in the north of Norfolk, southwest of Cley-next-the-Sea. The parish has a long history and was established by the time of the Norman Conquest. It is detailed in the Domesday Book of 1086. As is the case with so many English villages the church is now the oldest building remaining.
The Church of St Mary has a 14th century tower and chancel, but pieces of reused stonework suggest an earlier church existed. The nave, aisles and porches date to the mid to late 15th century, and further restorations were carried out during the 17th to 19th centuries.

In LAVAL, the horse makes its return downtown
The most beautiful conquest of the man takes again service downtown. Since September 7, a draught horse collects the paperboards of the tradesmen of the downtown area.
His name is "Trève de Beaulieu".
According to their website, keywest.com, over 660,000 cruise passengers visit Key West each year. The cruise ship, Carnival Conquest, was in port on the day we visited Key West.
Carnival Conquest, operated by Carnival Cruise Lines, made its maiden voyage in 2002. The 953 foot (290m) long vessel sails from Fort Lauderdale. It carries 2980 passengers and 1150 crew, which might explain why downtown Key West was so crowded ; -)
NOTE TO FLICKR FRIENDS: You may notice that "jannagal" is no more. I have never understood why Flickr uses a person's name in some applications and a screen name in others...very confusing. So my name and screen name are now the same.
