There is no greater reward to the end of a week and the beginning of a new to feel rejuvenated. Today, connecting and haveing a bit of meditation walk in the forest was the trick to feeling refreshed. How has your Sunday been?

Inside the city, it's easy for residents to connect and work together. Outside in the forgotten zones however, things are very different. There are small groups eking out an existence, separated from each other by disaster and ruin. In order for these folks to get what they need, they need someone to connect them. Someone to find them, and report back to the city to ask for help. They may not directly deliver goods, or shuttle people to distant locations, but the service they do supply is invaluable. Without them, many people would never be able to make it on their own. Despite otherwise being law abiding citizens, the activities of these "Connectors" are highly frowned upon by the establishment of District 18. While they find it easy enough to control a closed population, the outliers pose a potential threat to their authority.

While I built this purely for fun, I'm still planning to enter it in the District 18 Speeder Bike Contest. There are so many great designs being entered, it'll be fun to be part of such a terrific group.

Always be ready for an adventure. Typically W9 and I don't share our space with many people. A nice mix of bird watchers and twitchers packed the Marsh yesterday. Scope/camera lady tipped us off to the location of the rare Eurasian Wigeon. Thank you.

It wasn't a very cooperative duck and after 200+ photos we moved along. The newly constructed bridge on the Marsh is finally open to foot traffic. It was a no-brainer to check it out. Suddenly Scope/camera lady charges out from the brush waving her arms overhead and yelling for us to stay away. A moment later she was walking over to us and thanking us for being so understanding. She explained that she was on a deadline to find 250 birds.

W9 and I are watchers. Finding a new bird can be reason to celebrate. But it really is the adventure of the journey ... learning something new and being able to recall and connect the information we've stuffed into our heads. Giving the game our best effort and still getting it wrong sometimes. Humbling. Thrilling.

If you were a photographer following my family, this is the kind of photo I would want you to take. Jeremiah smiling because he read two full paragraphs. Me, nearly in tears and beaming with pride, because he read those two full paragraphs. Take that dyslexia!

The Falkirk Wheel, a rotating boat lift in Scotland, which connects the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union Canal.

The boat lift is named after the nearby town of Falkirk in central Scotland. It opened in 2002, reconnecting the two canals for the first time since the 1930s as part of the Millennium Link project.

The plan to regenerate central Scotland's canals and reconnect Glasgow with Edinburgh was led by British Waterways with support and funding from seven local authorities, the Scottish Enterprise Network, the European Regional Development Fund, and the Millennium Commission. Planners decided early on to create a dramatic 21st-century landmark structure to reconnect the canals, instead of simply recreating the historic lock flight.

The wheel raises boats by 24 metres (79 ft), but the Union Canal is still 11 metres (36 ft) higher than the aqueduct which meets the wheel. Boats must also pass through a pair of locks between the top of the wheel and the Union Canal. The Falkirk Wheel is the only rotating boat lift of its kind in the world, and one of two working boat lifts in the United Kingdom, the other being the Anderton boat lift.

“The soil is the great connector of lives, the source and destination of all. It is the healer and restorer and resurrector, by which disease passes into health, age into youth, death into life. Without proper care for it we can have no community, because without proper care for it we can have no life.”

― Wendell Berry

Probably the first photo I took which was taking me out of the "point and shoot" mentality. It surprised me just how well photos can really be with proper depth of field control.
