After an afternoon of heavy showers, the clouds eventually parted to give a nice display of colour.

As we were walking through the main congested pathway of Market Square everyone stopped dead in their track to allow this beautiful family to take a group portrait in front of the iconic Mi Terra Cafe. When the photo was snapped everyone cheered in delightful congratulations. It was a wonderful moment I’ll always remember.

CN L551 struggles up the grade between Tansley and Ash with a sizeable train of cars for customers in the Milton area. Some of the last GMD1s were thankfully assigned to Southern Ontario locals for their last couple years of service, and people in the region practically tracked their every move (thank you to those who did). L551 had a pair for a couple months, and I fortunately had some vacation time from work to go on an ONR trip. On the way up, we made the right choice to shoot a pair of GMD1s on L551. The local originates in Aldershot Yard, and serves a cluster of customers on the Halton Sub in the Milton area, mainly between the controlled locations of Mansewood and Millbase. In this scene they are in the double track section between Tansley and Ash. Currently, CN is building a new intermodal facility on the outskirts of Milton to help alleviate the always congested BIT and Malport yards further east of here. Because of this, CN has added a new controlled location "Derry" for the intermodal terminal, and has changed some of the blocks around in this area. Unfortunately, that means new signals between Tansley and Derry have been installed and cut over already, killing the 1960s searchlights seen here.

A photo taken from the Sakai Suidou Oohashi bridge. Sakai means border, and the channel is the border between Matsue city in Shimane prefecture and Sakai Minato city in Tottori prefecture.

While the Matsue side is mountainous and idyllic, the Sakai Minato side is flat, congested and industrial. Sakai Minato is on the sand bar that separates the Nakaumi lagoon from the Sea of Japan. Waterbody beyond the channel is the lagoon.

Although Sakai Minato does not look mystic nor spiritual, it was home to a renowned Manga artist Mizuki Shigeru (1922-2015). He was a specialist in Youkai (妖怪) or Mononoke (物の怪) which refers to ghosts and spectres that are a major source of Japanese folk tales.

Like Lafcadio Hearn became interested in Youkai by hearing such stories from his wife, Mizuki was influenced by such stories told by an old housemaid who worked for his family in his childhood, who was a wife of a psychic.

This is usually a very congested area with gondolas lining up to take tourists on a ride.

There is a lot going on in this ' tree framed' scene.

View from Marina beach lighthouse. The Marina Loop Road is a 2.5-kilometre-long road that runs from the Marina Lighthouse up to the Foreshore Estate bus stand. It runs on the seaward side of seven fishing villages— Nochikuppam, Nochi Nagar, Duming Kuppam, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Mullai Managar, Srinivasapuram and Nambikkai Nagar—home to about one lakh people. Built in 2014, it enables commuters to avoid the congested Santhome church stretch of the arterial Kamarajar Salai (Road), thus helping them reach southern Chennai faster.

What would appear to be in the middle of the southwest is in fact a congested suburban location surrounded by hundreds of thousands of humans.

I have just returned from a superb holiday which started off like many by touching down at a major airport.

This is the first photo I took on the trip. It is an uninspiring, smoggy, congested scene that was taken from a moving vehicle and doesn't really shout "Holiday Destination". There are a couple of nominal clues, but does anyone have any idea where this was taken.

Hammersmith Bridge, West London. Built in 1887. The bridge was closed completely in April 2019 after fractures were detected in the pedestals which hold the suspension system in place. It was reopened to pedestrians and dismounted cyclists only in July 2021. The latest estimates for repairs stand at £250 million while arguments ensue as to which authority is to cover the cost.

Meanwhile, traffic is diverted across Putney and Chiswick Bridges which are now highly congested at all times.

Maybe for people who in live in the more quieter parts of the world may not understand but for someone who lives in one of the most congested parts of North America the concept of walking into the middle a quiet road for minutes at a time and not worry about getting run over and taking in the blessed silence is a simple pleasure.

Insa-dong is a famous neighbourhood (dong) of the Jongno-gu district of Seoul, South Korea. The main street in view, Insadong-gil is well known as a unique area of Seoul that represents both the past and present culture. In weekends the streets are crowded with both locals and tourists shopping and sampling the vast array of foods available.

Seminyak is a beach town in South Bali.

The next town north of Legian, Seminyak is more upmarket with mostly luxury accommodation and fashionable high-end restaurants and bars. The atmosphere is much more sophisticated and laid-back than Kuta, and the beach in particular is quieter during the day. Seminyak is also the high end spa and boutique shopping capital of Bali. Nowhere is the upscaling of Bali in recent years more obvious than here.

It is hard to imagine that only ten years ago this was a distinctly separate village, and something of a backwater. Development has occurred at an astonishing pace, and as well as absorbing all green space which formerly separated Seminyak from Legian, it is now almost impossible to determine where Seminyak ends and the nearby villages of Petitenget, Umalas and Kerobokan begin. This certainly has its downside, and the whole district has become very congested.

I took a small jaunt through the park last week while we had some glorious weather. I didn't do much adventuring since I was feeling not so great (either I had a cold or I may have developed allergies, who knows, all I know is I was always tired and congested). I absolutely love this park. All of the different trees really are a feast for the eyes, the nose, and the soul. :)

It was a busy morning at the Beaconsfield footbridge, with CN and CP each running 3 eastbound freights in less than 2 hours. The final of CN's trio was 567, empty container transfer from Valleyfield, seen here heading into the morning sun.

This train operated for a few months in the fall of 2020, acting as a relief for CN's intermodal ramp in Taschereau yard which was badly congested due to the dockworkers' strike at the port of Montreal. CN and CSX struck a deal to use the latter's dormant intermodal yard in Valleyfield to unload overflow traffic from Taschereau, with this train running daily between the two. The service ended shortly after the strike.

The Shinkansen N700 series, introduced in 2007, is a high-speed train jointly developed by JR Central and JR West. It operates on the Tokaido Shinkansen (Tokyo-Osaka), Sanyo Shinkansen (Osaka-Hakata), and Kyushu Shinkansen (Fukuoka-Kagoshima). While JR Central and JR West deploy these trains on the Tokaido and Sanyō lines, JR Kyushu uses the standard N700 series exclusively on the Kyushu route.

The N700A series, where the "A" stands for Advanced, is an upgraded version of the original N700. Introduced in 2013, it is operated solely by JR Central and JR West and serves the Tokaido and Sanyō lines. This model refines the 16-car configurations of its predecessor, incorporating enhancements such as improved vibration control, more efficient braking systems, and optimized passenger comfort. The N700A achieves a maximum speed of 300 km/h, operating at 285 km/h on the congested Tokaido route. Its tilting technology ensures stability on curves, while aerodynamic design and regenerative braking boost energy efficiency. Modern amenities include Wi-Fi, power outlets, and ergonomic seating, alongside advanced safety systems like earthquake detection and automatic emergency braking.

JR Kyushu’s fleet consists of standard N700 series trains, not the N700A variant.

Formations such as the F22 are part of JR West’s dedicated "F" sets.

I composed this image of Wild Foxglove flowers while hiking along them Brittany Coast, in France. This wildflower grows in abundance there, along with many other wildflower varieties. Foxglove plants are prolific seed-producers, and have been labelled as an invasive species in parts of NW North America. At the same time, Foxglove is a popular garden flower.

Foxglove flowers originally hail from Europe. The name of this dastardly, but lovely, plant likely comes from the Anglo-Saxon word "foxes glofa" (meaning the glove of the fox) because original admirers thought the flower resembled the fingers of a glove. It's also thought to be tied to an Irish legend in which foxes would put the flowers on their feet to muffle the sound of their steps.

Foxgloves are biennials, which means that it takes two seasons for them to perpetuate an entire life cycle. During the first year, the plant produces merely a dense rosette of leaves. The second year will see the trademark blooms reliably burst forth. The plant then dies.

Ingesting a foxglove plant can be fatal, particularly if it's done just before the seeds ripen, when the plant is most toxic. The leaves are also deadly. The thing about foxgloves is that the very properties that make them dangerous are the same that make them helpful in medical circles. If ingested, the plant's inherent chemicals, known as cardiac glycosides, will make the heart pump harder.

This can spell big trouble for many people whose hearts pump at a good rate already. A dose of foxglove (whether eating the seeds or making a tea with the leaves) acts like taking a dose of heart medication and can make the heart slow down or become dangerously irregular. Symptoms of foxglove poisoning include dizziness, vomiting, irregular heartbeat and hallucinations.

For those who don't have such well-functioning tickers, however, foxgloves (when formulated correctly) can literally be a life-saver. This was discovered way back in the late 1700s, and as a result the foxglove has been used in some form or fashion since to help treat congestive heart failure as well as irregular heartbeat.

The drug's name is digitalis and is made from the dried leaves of the foxglove. Still, there's a thin line between safe and dangerous dosage of foxgloves for medicinal purposes, so it's best to leave it to the professionals who know how to make medications safely and specifically.

What more could one say about the Silver Strand Beach other than it’s simply one of the most stunning beaches you could ever lay eyes on 😍 Certainly one of Ireland’s finest horseshoe beaches, complete with its surrounding natural sea grass landscape. Located on the extreme western point of rural Donegal, far away from the everyday bustling of congested towns & traffic jams.

On arrival you are still extremely high above this cove which was carved deep into the surrounding bedrock throughout millions of years of wave erosion. There’s a steep 174 stepped path leading down to this dreamy beach. An experience your mind will never forget walking down to & an experience your legs will never forget climbing back up them 😅 Great for both your body & mind.....

Such a surreal feeling to gaze across our vast Atlantic Ocean (The Pond) knowing that the next stop is America & Canada! Silver Strand is pretty much a little bit of heaven tucked safely away here in Ireland’s side pocket 💚

... prayers, good thoughts, and positive vibes for Prince who was diagnosed with congestive heart failure yesterday (August 1st). This came on suddenly. He is on three medications. We will have an update on August 9. Thank you for this and all the special attention you have given Prince over the past 2.5 years.

Prince goes for his second follow-up exam tomorrow (8/16/17) after having his medications adjusted last Tuesday. He is doing much better this week. Your prayers, thoughts, and positive vibes have made a huge difference to Prince and his family. Thanks, Flickr friends.

Update: (9/4/17) Prince is good about taking his medications and seems to be holding his own. He's had a few issues along the way but is quite cooperative. Thanks again for your interest, my friends!

Update: (10/15/21) Prince continues with his daily medications to start his day. He is doing quite well and has outlived his life expectancy which the doctor estimated to be 4 years.

When the Hornibrook Highway bridge between Brighton (Brisbane) and Redcliffe across the wide estuary of the Pine River (North and South) closed, it was initially replaced by the bridge on the left known as the Houghton Highway. This had tidal flow lanes but in time, it became totally congested at peak times in particular and was augmented by the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge (right) in 2010. They then became one way each with three lanes.

Rather than snipping out the history of the three bridges which of course is rather large, I have appended a number of links below.

In this photo though you will notice that the Houghton Highway, like the Hornibrook before hand has bumps, two in fact across the two channels in the estuary to allow small craft to pass underneath. The Ted Smout bridge does not, it is built at a higher level in its entirety, reputed to be above tsunami height. The bridges are both approximately 2.7 kilometres long and the lamps have been designed to deter Pelicans from resting on them. Losing sight of the road in front because of a large white splat at 80 kph is not a happy event!

This is Loch Cill Chriosd, known locally as the 'Hairy Loch', for reasons that should be obvious. In the years I have been on Skye, I have observed that the loch is definitely getting more and more 'hairy' - the reeds now extend just about all the way across, so I expect that in the near future the entire loch will be congested with the reeds.

Nine species of bat make their homes in New York State, and the interesting Little Brown Bat (Myotis lucifugus) is among them. These fascinating creatures—as most know—use echolocation to find and devour insects on the wing. One bat will feast on thousands of mosquitoes and other insects each night! Interestingly, they catch them in flight within their wings or tail, before snapping them up into their mouths, causing the bats’ erratic flight patterns. In the winter, they sleep communally within hibernacula, where up to 300 bats may occupy one single square foot of space, each one’s heart beating a mere once every five of so seconds! Incredibly, it seems that there are only about five hibernacula in New York State—these caves and abandoned mines serve as the congested hibernation spots for all of our bats!

Two days ago, I had to say goodbye to my best friend, my constant companion and the heartbeat at my feet for the past 13 years. Bandit had become a victim of congestive heart disease. This condition made his lungs constantly congested with mucous. This combined with the arthritis in his spine proved to be too much for his little body. I am devastated and overcome with grief. He was so intuitive and watched and interpreted my every move for all of his life with me. Bandit was a rescue after being found on the streets in another nearby city.

Through his YouTube video, Guilty Pug. we have a worldwide group of friends, especially other pug owners. There was only the two of us in the home. so it is unbelievably quiet and, admittedly, lonely without his presence.

Fly high, Bandit. you are an angel pug now.

While Mac Yard is congested with the amount of trains arriving, coupled with the cold winter weather we've been having and you got a recipe for disaster of backlog trains and no crews. We're both out doing a 110 inspection on 317 who has just departed Mac Yard for the Bala Sub and points west.

tw for semi gross medical info: my battle w/ my voice continues. i have had this crazy rattling noise in my throat when i sing for abt 2 yrs now and it is incredibly frustrating, as singing is one of my favorite things to do in this life. i recently had an ENT put a camera down my nose and into my throat and it showed a metric f-ton of mucus and inflammation from severe allergies....my mind was blown when i realized coughing/clearing my throat/swallowing my gallons of post nasal drop actually made the rattling noise stop, albeit briefly before i get congested again. the other day, a pulmonologist re-diagnosed me with asthma and i learned asthma can cause excessive mucus too. i'm hoping with treatment i can regain control over my voice. at least i'm not 21 and having 24-48 hr fits of sneezing anymore --

With the monasteries of Meteora becoming a part of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 1988 the number of people visiting this site has increased a lot over the years.

During the day busloads of tourists approach the area and congest the narrow streets, which results in chaotic conditions from time to time.

The early mornings, late evenings and nights however aren‘t busy at all.

It was an amazing experience to photograph the spectacularly located monastery Varlaam completely undisturbed in a warm and silent full moon night.
