The canals of Venice are so busy and congested that the gondoliers must exercise caution when approaching another canal. The crowds in this beautiful city can be overwhelming but here is a romantic and solitary moment.

I live in North London, about 5-6 miles from the centre but the powers to be have made it virtually impossible for me to visit these places ever again.

Reasons:

a) For my health and for my physical safety it would be suicidal to travel on public transport out of hours with several thousands worth of gear on my back.

b) The mayor's advice is that if you want to avoid paying the congestion charge of £17.50/day the simplest way is not to drive into central London. There is one day when this waived and that is on Christmas Day!

Somehow I don't see me revisiting my favourite London sights ever again!

Barred Owlet

In early June of last year, I'd had the privilege and pleasure of seeing and taking pictures of a Barred Owl family in the local park.*

Two owlets were located, perched a few metres apart high up in the safety of the tree. Not too far away in another tree were the parents, both sleeping. The owlets were clearly relaxed, just acting naturally, scratching an itch every now and then, using the talons to preen and clean.. Although the light was not ideal and the setting quite congested, which made any photography challenging, I am happy I was able to take some shots of this owl family.

* Many thanks to Ivan Deng for letting me know that the owlets had fledged, and above all, for graciously offering me a ride to the trail to photograph this owl family.

I also like to mention that I truly enjoy the company of Ivan and also Don Delaney whenever I go birding with them. I am not exaggerating - their hearing is supernormal, and that has always got my day off to a happy start. I must say I am no novice in the woods, but quite often I have not heard or seen a thing until they point it out to me.

Thank you very much for the visit and comment.

Taken from a distance with a 500mm lens the city of Surfers Paradise (Australia) appears a little congested with buildings and seems to rise out of the sea.

There have some nice cloud formations through the recent low pressure systems.

Some nice clouds building, with some of the low pressures over the past few weeks we've had some nice cloud formations.

The clouds started building after lunch, which eventually led to thunderstorms by teatime.

Sukhumvit 15 or Asoke is almost always congested during daytime hours and early evening. You will always save time by taking the BTS, MRT or airport rail link instead of catching a taxi. Terminal 21, one of the impressive malls is in Asoke, hosts many interesting shops, restaurants and leisure options in a global setting. A lovely place to visit for couple of hours.

Active convection, which led to a heavy downpour, this over Bracebridge Heath.

This was one of many active clouds passing recently. Can you spot the person in the clouds?

In my part of New Jersey, you can drive across the state in an hour, from city to shore, and this is what you might find in the middle......not so congested after all.

I will never tire of light rays through the trees, as elusive as they are I will chase them down as they are one of my favourite elements to capture. This, taken in a rather deep and congested area of Hillock Wood, was a magical moment and for me, only spoilt by the out of focus fir on the left, I was too excited by the rays! But that aside... enjoy!

A cyclist climbs a steep hill called Kaulberg (Kaul Hill). The trucker (self-identified as Mia's papa) would like to pass, but has to contend with oncoming traffic on this narrow street. A bit of a traffic jam ensues. Bamberg has nice cycling paths and lanes in the low areas of the city, but not on the steep hills. It's simply too congested up here. So it's only the die-hard cyclists who attempt this climb. Two spires of the Bamberg Cathedral rise above the houses here. [SNY00329_lr_2000]

My sweet cat, Luna, died of congestive heart failure on July 17th at the age of fourteen. She has joined my sociable cat, Gigi, who crossed the rainbow bridge 2 years ago. They had been together for 11 years.

On most nights, South Congress, or SoCo, is one of the most vibrant and congested areas of Austin. But on Thanksgiving night, one can stand freely in the middle of South Congress and not worry too much about being run over by traffic.

The bridge was constructed between 1932 and 1936, to a design by Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners, Consulting Engineers, and Architect, Donald Watson. It was the first road crossing of the River Forth downstream of Stirling, completed nearly thirty years before the Forth Road Bridge, which stands fifteen miles (24 km) to the south-east.

The bridge was constructed with a swinging central section which remained in use until 1988, that would allow larger ships to sail upstream to the small port at Alloa.

The bridge is part of the A985 road (formerly A876), and carries a single lane in each direction. Until the opening of the Clackmannanshire Bridge in 2008, it was the customary diversion route for traffic north from Edinburgh and eastern Scotland when the Forth Road Bridge was closed or under repair. As a result of the additional traffic using the bridge at these times, joining the high volume of regular commuter traffic, the town of Kincardine was frequently congested.

A maritime pilot, marine pilot, harbor pilot, port pilot, ship pilot, or simply pilot, is a mariner who maneuvers ships through dangerous or congested waters, such as harbors or river mouths. Maritime pilots are regarded as skilled professionals in navigation as they are required to know immense details of waterways such as depth, currents, and hazards, as well as displaying expertise in handling ships of all types and size. Although common in much of its range, the American Bittern is usually well-hidden in bogs, marshes and wet meadows. Usually solitary, it walks stealthily among cattails or bullrushes. If it senses that it has been seen, the American Bittern becomes motionless, with its bill pointed upward, causing it to blend into the reeds. It is most active at dusk. More often heard than seen, this bittern has a call that resembles a congested pump.

This bittern winters in the southern United States and Central America. It summers throughout Canada and much of the United States. As a long-distance migrant, it is a very rare vagrant in Europe, including Great Britain and Ireland.

I found this one along Peavine Road in Osceola County, Florida.

Just got back last night from a quick trip to one of my favorite places… a place that I called home for a number of years. Clean, Crisp mornings and beautiful blues sky’s are the norm.

Got a bit tired on the six hour drive home so I listened to one of my favorite Bands as I drove… ELO, otherwise known as Electric Light Orchestra.

Thought “Don’t Bring Me Down” mirrored my mood as I returned to the crazy, congested world called SoCal, otherwise known as Southern California.

Don't Bring Me Down" is the ninth and final track on the English rock band the Electric Light Orchestra's 1979 album Discovery. It is their highest-charting hit in the United States to date.

We walked around here 2 weeks ago. Murrisk is a little village most famous for being home to Croagh Patrick - Ireland's holy mountain. The pier is small but pretty. It's well kept with nice seating for a warmer day. Most people don't see or visit the pier as it's in a little off the main road but it's worth a look.

Historical info:

In 1894 the Congested Districts Board built a small pier at Murrisk for fising boats to use and anchor safely. The industry was at its peak betwen 1940 and 1960 before a remorseless decline set in as transport rates spiralled and now activities are concentrated on harvesting inshore shellfish.

A pair of KCSM grey ghost AC44s, 4545 and 4535, take the lead of northbound grain empty GIHKC21, running at track speed across the 4000-ft bridge over Lake Houston. The train is on UP's Beaumont Sub, heading back to KCS rails in the subdivision's namesake city; once off the UP, the train will enter KCS's own Beaumont Sub for the run to Shreveport.

Aside from this bridge, the ex-MP Beaumont Sub doesn't really lend itself to any interesting shots, thanks to running in a barely-accessible tree tunnel for its vast majority. This directional-running line hosts all eastbound traffic between Houston and Beaumont (UP, KCS, Amtrak #2, & the occasional BNSF), essentially acting as an alternative to the parallel, perennially congested Houston Sub, which hosts the westbounds.

Lake Houston, along the San Jacinto River, was constructed in the 1950s and serves as Houston's primary drinking water reservior.

A red-bellied woodpecker and a house swallow flying around a bird feeder. The odd coloration of the sparrow apparently resulted from very bright sun reflecting off of healthy grass and foliage.

Trulli love conquerors all. Visited here when very young, and always wanted to return. Little more commercial and congested, but the magic is still here. One of the true treasure to the world. Need to get off the commercial path to find some solace.

Spring is giving tons to look at and photograph on campus,

Longland Road, Donemana, Strabane, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland

This picturesque little church & cemetery was constructed in 1879 to house a congregation of 300 worshipers from the local parish. I love its placement as it fringes on the local Donemana village border. Idyllically seated so even today it’s not congested & surrounded by “sprung up” modern constructions around it.

Saint James Church still stands proudly on a natural open-air landscape, surrounded by lush rolling green fields & to its rear an ancient woodland likely predating the church itself. Its clean natural blend with its environment is a timeless credit to both its builders & its current custodians 🙏

I am back in Bangkok for my next walk, exploring the neighbourhoods alongside the Chao Praya River in the south west of the city which would once have been the area supporting the extensive harbour. The harbour has moved out of the congested confines of the city now but there are many clues to what was once here.

I start my walk at Wong Wian Yai station where the railway would once have continued along this street occupied by a fruit market. The original railway would have served a wharf on the river but was truncated in the 1960s as a means of dealing with some frightful traffic congestion in the area. Ironically the traffic congestion is as bad as ever, while a new Skytrain line is being built to serve the area.

A maritime pilot, also known as a marine pilot or harbor pilot and sometimes simply called a pilot, is a sailor who manoeuvres ships through dangerous or congested waters, such as harbors or river mouths. He or she is normally an ex ship captain and a highly experienced shiphandler who possesses detailed knowledge of the particular waterway, e.g. actual depth, direction and strength of the wind, current and tide at any time of the day. The pilot is a navigational expert for the port of call. Wikipedia

Sometimes you just have to stop and smell the roses but in Covid times that is sometimes easier said than done, so continuing on our drive home and avoiding congested places was the order of the day our next village checked all the boxes for us beautiful, quaint while being sparse with people.

Pictured here is the beautiful little Chapel of Notre-Dame de Lourdes built in 1879 located in Saint-Michel-de-Bellechasse part of the region of Chaudière-Appalache this place of pilgrimage and I have to assume popular wedding venue is well worth the detour off Route 132 into the lovely village.

The White Village is the nickname of Saint-Michel-de-Bellechasse due to the large number of houses (almost 85%) that are painted white a rarity in the this region, petit with a population of 1700 it more than doubles in the summer months as city dweller take up vacation residence.

I took this on Sept 23, 2020 with my D750 and Nikon 28-300mm Lens at 28mm 1/80 sec f/8 ISO100 processed in LR, PS +Lumenzia, Topaz , and DXO

This night photograph was taken in May from the roof top hotel bar just off Botafogo Beach in Rio de Janeiro. Some of the roads were congested due to evening traffic, and light trails were recorded along the major roads.

The buildings and reflections in the bay can be seen in the background, with the light trails in the foreground intermittently hidden by the trees.

I really love this shot. I was going to hold off on posting it, because I've had a few edits that I wasn't going to make public yet, but when I did this one, I decided to post them all! This is my favorite and I couldn't wait!

For some reason, I haven't hit Explore for about 2 1/2 years, and I really wish this one could make the difference. Whether it ever does or not, I still like it and hope you do, too!

I continue to feel more normal each day, and though I'm still a trifle congested, it's not much more than on a regular allergy kind of day! Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts and prayers during this time. I very much appreciate it!
