Happy Caturday!!!

The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the family Felidae; it is a muscular, deep-chested cat with a short, rounded head, a reduced neck and round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. The lion is sexually dimorphic; males are larger than females with a typical weight range of 150 to 250 kg (330 to 550 lb) for males and 120 to 182 kg (265 to 400 lb) for females. Male lions have a prominent mane, which is the most recognisable feature of the species.

A lion pride consists of a few adult males, related females and cubs. Groups of female lions typically hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The species is an apex and keystone predator, although they scavenge when opportunities occur.

Typically, the lion inhabits grasslands and savannas but is absent in dense forests. It is usually more diurnal than other big cats, but when persecuted it adapts to being active at night and at twilight.

In the Pleistocene, the lion ranged throughout Eurasia, Africa and North America but today it has been reduced to fragmented populations in Sub-Saharan Africa and one critically endangered population in western India.

It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996 because populations in African countries have declined by about 43% since the early 1990s. Lion populations are untenable outside designated protected areas. Although the cause of the decline is not fully understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are the greatest causes for concern. - Wikipedia

Bird Species in conflict # 11

This immature Northern Goshawk visited the terminal several times one winter. It would hide in the shadows behind the tanks, pipes, ladders, rails etc. and try to ambush the Pigeons when they came to roost.

On this day, the Raven flushed it, and the chase was on in the direction of my position. I could not focus until they were overhead and in a back light situation. I was happy to get this shot of the interaction before they flew directly in front of the sun. The Raven did chase it from the scene that day, but the Goshawk kept returning.

In the twilight of their service, US Air Force Reserve Command's Lockheed C-141B Starlifter 66-0134 departs RAF Mildenhall just days before the outbreak of the 2nd Gulf War

In the background, an F-15 Eagle from the 48thFW at nearby RAF Lakenheath turns base leg to recover there

Quite often when on Easterly landings and when Mildenhall is less busy, F-15's will directly overfly on long finals for Lakenheath which is located only some 5 miles to the North

Intriguingly the main Runway headings conflict with Mildenhall on 11/29 and Lakenheath on 06/24

These elements seem to live in conflict with one-another. A green tree, against a firie wall of red surrounded by orange, live together near the canyon floor of Bryce. My final shot of Bryce Canyon, it is a wonderful place for any photographer to create their own special images.

"I'm a paradox. I want to be happy, but I think of things that make me sad. I'm lazy, yet ambitious. I don't generally like myself, but I also love who I am. I say I don't care, but I really do. I crave attention, but reject it when it comes my way. I'm a conflicted contradiction. If I can't figure myself out, there's no way anyone else has either." -Unknown.

I wish had more occasions to snap this magnificent sculpture. It looked amazing in different lights and really needs multiple visits to do it justice.

The art is outstanding. The reason for its being is to remember an important epoch-defining event. It’s just sad that so many of humankind’s most memorable moments seem to be rooted in conflict. It’s not often you see a grand statue with the little plaque, “Here stood Mrs Puggy Wuggy a modest, affable lady and cook in the local school and who made lots people smile and brought happiness to all those around her”.

Ps for those interested, the sculpture, "The Gaelic Chieftain", by Maurice Harron, commemorates the Battle of Curlew Pass.

I figured I'd switch it up today, and post some new imagery. I usually let stuff sit a bit before I post but today I felt like seeing some green since spring is amongst us.

What I find intersting about this particular scene is that you have a combination of vibrant spring greens, with snowy foothills/mountains in the background. It's like mother nature was confused at the time. The conditions make for a unique scene with special conditons.

Special thanks to my buddy JoJo B. for being my tour guide. Thanks man, much appreciated.

Everyone talking at once

We came across this old barn and windmill west of Putnam,IL.It seemed unusual because of the build pattern of the barn-the bottom has the boards up and down while the top boards are across.I'm sure there is a very good reason,it's stood for probably 100 years....

Have a great windmill Wednesday everyone-spring is here it would seem!

The North American Aviation P-51 Mustang is an American long-range, single-seat fighter and fighter-bomber used during World War II and the Korean War, among other conflicts. The Mustang was designed in April 1940 by a team headed by James H. Kindelberger of North American Aviation (NAA) in response to a requirement of the British Purchasing Commission.

The definitive version, the P-51D, was powered by the Packard V-1650-7, a license-built version of the two-speed, two-stage-supercharged Merlin 66, and was armed with six .50 caliber (12.7 mm) AN/M2 Browning machine guns.

Trouble in the trees

Separation is a conflicting word. In this photograph it was a positive outcome as I edged left and right to achieve the desired result ensure trunk shapes of note had could be distinguished, especially in the centre trees. The word is currently common in my google searches as I research separation anxiety in puppies as we are going through some trying times with our new puppy. Missy seems to me to be more needy than our other dogs in the passed always aways needing to be close. From the start we have crate trained her so we could leave the house for a couple of hours and we have always returned to a peaceful puppy. At first we had the create in the bedroom at night which may have been a bad idea as now we have started to crate her downstairs at night and we have experienced a few distressing nights although last night she only cried for twenty minutes and then settled down for the full night. It’s probably a puppy thing and we have been doing the right things but it still doesn’t stop me googling separation anxiety and worry about a problem that we haven’t got. This image was taken last October of a group of trees in Royston I have been eying up for the right conditions for about 5 years.

An exhibition at the Tate Modern. Works by artists and photographers from mid 19th C to the present. Looking back at moments of conflict. Photos taken days, weeks, months, years after the conflict.

A good start for a new 2022 year! A bit nostalgic build, because it's actually an updated version of one MOC of mine originally builded for a Megabricks Festival (Moscow, Russia) back in 2015. Unfortunally I never had a chance to take a good shot of that model, so in the end of 2021 I decided to build a remake of it from scratch. So, here is a result!
