The event was aimed to draw the attention of the European and international society to the uniqueness of the Holy Mount Athos and continued the debates and discussions started at the first Conferences in Salzburg (2011) and Weimar (2012) concerning the necessity to preserve the spiritual and cultural particularities of this sacred place.
Proceedings included two plenary sessions and three roundtables with discussion of the following themes: “Askesis, Theology, Modernity”, “Askesis and Ecology” and “The Holy Mount Athos and the unity of Eastern Christian World.”

My son (No. 6) isn't looking like a MLB prospect, but he is a pretty good pitcher. In this game, he was consistenly throwing strikes, some of which were hit pretty hard by the opposing team. Some age-appropriate, but less than sharp defense led his coach out to the mound in a bit of a huff. After the game, I reminded my son that he was wearing a baseball uniform on a nice day and got to eat hot dogs between innings and that no day at work when you're a grown up is ever like that. He smiled. He gets it.

In a world in which 17 percent of the global population consumes 80 percent of the world’s resources, the notion of a “sharing economy” offered, at least for a short period, a glimpse of hope for rebalancing the distribution of wealth. Yet despite its rhetoric of putting people and the planet first, the sharing economy has rapidly become more akin to a servitude economy, with the likes of Airbnb and Uber undermining existing services, enforcing their own labor regimes, and reshaping social infrastructures in their own image. Learning from these unfortunate developments, new initiatives, infrastructures, and practices have begun to emerge, seeking to address gross imbalances through a fundamental reconsideration of what ownership means. This panel will bring together a number proponents of new systems capable of “sharing” in wholly different ways, to discuss the lessons learned and unearth their emergent potentials.
Don't you hate them ? (I've been on one for over and hour...and yes, it's 1 am).

The series Trust Me, I’m an Artist investigates ethical issues arising from art and biological science collaboration, where artistic projects nudge up against the newly possible and often precede regulation. The series considers the roles and responsibilities of artists, scientists, and institutions involved. The protocol is as follows: an artist proposes an ethically complex artwork to a specially formed ethics committee (following rules and procedures typical for the host country), who then debates the proposal and comes to a decision about its implementation, which is publicly discussed. transmediale will host an ethics panel regarding the Cellular Propeller project by Howard Boland of London-based C-Lab, which explores the fourth domain of synthetic biology where bio-matter is mobilized to perform novel behaviours.
