Conditions on the tops of the Pennines can be Arctic. This picture taken after descending from Hugh Seat to Hell Gill Bridge. Freezing gale force winds with a wind chill to give you nightmares. A bleak and terrible place but incredibly beautiful.
Foggy conditions were forecast so made an early start to get there before all the parking spaces were taken up. For once the weatherman was right.
Conditions were much whiter a year ago on the slopes of Chrome Hill. Parkhouse looked impressive in its temporary coat
The weather seems to be in the doldrums at present and little new content is being posted
Some nice foggy conditions yesterday morning so had a trip up to the roaches for a couple of hours, not been here in over a year and I am sure there was more trees that had fallen over than the last time I was here which made it more chaotic than ever to get compositions.
After a very early start to the day and poor weather conditions, it was time to concede. On the way back to the car I noticed mist forming on the landscape around Vixen Tor and realised that there was half a chance of a shot. At the time I was thinking 'black and white' but after looking at three photographs taken at one minute intervals, this one survives in colour. Only moments later, the sun bleached the landscape and the mist was gone.
A very moody and atmospheric Dartmoor landscape with Vixen Tor emerging from the mist. Thanks for looking. Mk
Fantastic misty conditions at a place I have only recently begun to explore, as I have only just discovered it! This is a shot made up of two handheld shots stitched together. The mist not only simplified the scene, it brought a different relationship between the trees.
Wild coast - Breezy conditions and some choppy conditions across Loch Scavaig with the waves crashing in onto this wild coastline.
The iconic view over to the dramatic Black Cuillin with some excellent late afternoon sunlight catching the rocks at Elgol.

A Northerly wind powering the wave action that lifts the sand, moving and depositing it elsewhere.
Beach sand levels being raised or lowered by up to a metre per day under these conditions.
Drought tolerant wildflower growing in volcanic soil. Moisture during Christmas has reportedly coaxed out more of these on hillsides. Life emerges even in the harshest conditions.
The conditions on this day were amazing to say the least, one minuet sunshine the next rain, but what we did not realise was the amount of rain that was heading towards us from the West, it quickly enveloped us in a downpour of a thick drizzle that soaked us in no time , I just had time to fire off a few frames before thinking how far away the car was . Climping beach near Littlehampton .
Taken in very dark conditions with the RF800mm lens which isn't renowned for its low light performance.
This is a very light variant and looked to be in good condition. There was another SEO sat on the adjacent post and this one dive bombed it, chasing it away before calmly circling round and alighting on the next post. Wonderful to see - although I sadly missed a shot of the action.
Rubbish conditions for a photo but great to see the 4th Juvenile, we were thinking number 4 hadn't made it !
Stacksteads
Freezing conditions as Stacksteads turns into the Arctic.
Cold but lovely. It’s nice to see a blue sky and the sun.
Wrap up well for winter.

I went looking for sea eagles around the northern shore of Loch Shiel. The calm conditions might have made them easy to spot. But it started to rain. My son and wife, on a recent visit had five sea eagles in sight at the same time. But as I scoured the shore across the loch, suddenly about 30 startled Canada geese took flight from out of sight behind some gorse bushes with a terrible cacophony of noise that made me jump. But I swung my camera to catch them fly briefly and then land on the water before realising Effie was gone. I searched amongst the shoreline bushes, calling her name more and more frantically but there was no flash of her white coat. Had she fled up over the nearest hills, or into the woods? I had no idea. With a sense of dread I traced our original route back along the muddy traffic, calling out to her ever more loudly and desperately. I thought the noise might echo across the loch and bring the eagles over but unfortunately I caught sight of other movement: cows thinking I was the farmer calling them for a new delivery of hay. Now cows and dogs do not go well together. So many dog walkers killed by cows. It hastened me on my way, frequently checking over my shoulder for a herd of beasts gaining on me. But there was no sign of Effie. Had she really been so alarmed by the sound of geese that she would have fled all the way back to the car. The track bent near a bridge, and from there I suddenly spotted a little white.... it was Effie, still hundreds of yards away looking like a lost sheep feeling rather silly about itself peering eagerly round the bend towards me. What a little beauty; filthy as fv<% with mud but I was over the moon to see her. One call and she ran full tilt towards me, flying over huge puddles and mud patches, ears flapping like redundant wings, until she was in my arms. Aww my cutie, fled in terror from the madly flapping geese!
Challenging conditions with crazy winds and splashing waves made for a crazy shoot along Saint Mary Lake in Glacier National Park. No matter what the conditions are this place is off the hook and I can't wait to go back!
Storm clouds and the setting sun combined for memorable conditions. This view is looking over Jackson Lake with the Teton range in the distance. Grand Teton (13,770 feet) is the tall peak on the left side.

In hot summer conditions 70807 rounds the curve towards West Trent junction with the 6E32 Preston to Lindsey Oil Refinery empties. The train was one of many diverted via the Brigg line due to a landslip on the main Scunthorpe route.

Fortunately, it wasn't until the end of my trip to the Irreler waterfalls that I had the glorious idea of climbing one of the icy rocks in the river for a last long exposure and of course I ended up with one leg in the freezing water!
But I didn't have it far to the parking lot and luckily in the car I had fresh socks and shoes to change :)

One of the magnificent trees at the head of Padley Gorge.
Glad I managed to get some lovely conditions and colour before Autumn was over.
With conditions like these you can't blame this chap for taking a selfie on the summit of Coniston Old Man. This view looks south and as can be seen the sea of cloud stretched to the horizon.

Pine Creek Canyon Overlook is one of my favorite trails in Zion National Park. I love the short distance of the hike and the beautiful views, but I've always found it challenging to capture good photos there due to the lighting conditions. I've been to the viewpoint three times, twice during sunrise and once for sunset on our most recent trip. During my last visit, there was some police activity near the tunnels, causing traffic to back up for quite a while. I decided to stay longer than usual, hoping to capture an incredible light trail once the traffic cleared. As the ambient light got low, the slow-moving traffic worked in my favor, allowing me to capture beautiful full-length light trails, which is rare at this location due to the distance and low-speed limits. I chose a short-tele focal length to eliminate the sky from the composition and emphasize the mountains surrounding this stunning stretch of road.
Encouraged by the promising conditions and lacking the long lens I needed at this distance (this image is cropped), I decided to extend my walk to Great Links Tor, which you can see here on the far ridge line. You get a feeling for these things though, and mine were telling me it was going to rain. A lot. Enough so that this is the only shot I have. I might have liked to crop in even tighter. But having already ditched half of the original full resolution file, I settled on this composition. Ideally, of course, I would have shot it with a tele-zoom. But then I would have had to carry it (and buy one). It's something I'm thinking about.

Breathtaking conditions with the snow-capped mountains of North West Scotland. In this shot is the stunning mountain of Suilven captured on a perfect winter's morning.

Red Crossbill (Loxia curvirostra) male roosting on the top a a spruce tree in a suburban neighbourhood in southwest Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
The spruce trees were stressed due to dry conditions this past summer and produced a large cone crop this year. This resulted in a large number of both species of Crossbills moving into Edmonton this winter to feed on the abundant food supply.

A memorable evening at Elgol where conditions were constantly changing as Storm Dennis barreled across the Isle of Skye. We were treated to ever changing conditions, including a rising tide, gale force winds, driving rain, hail pellets, snow, grey skies, broken clouds, flat light which was often quickly followed with moments of gorgeous golden hour light.
We were a group of 7 togs dashing about capturing as many images as we could, in conditions we had only dreamed of before. For some reason, a majority of us eventually ended up here at the JCB (Joe Cornish Boulder) . . . fortunately we all ‘played well’ together and sharp elbows were rarely needed. In the distance can be seen the snow capped Cuillins.
This was the end of my first day on Skye, as I was walking back to the car in darkness I thought to myself how lucky I was!

An afternoon of challenging conditions, I got the briefest of gifts for my efforts climbing Cairn Gorm the interesting way via the Fiacaill Buttress. It's moments like these that are the cherry on top for me, The ridge in the distance is the route I took up. An enjoyable and exposed scramble in the Cairngorm National Park, Scotland.
Winter wonderland conditions at the Yorkshire Dales Railway as Lancashire and Yorkshire A Class 52322 takes the empty coaching stock to Bolton Abbey in readiness for the days " Murder Mystery Dining Train " running some 80 minutes late due to frozen points at Embsay.
