2013 Renault Initiale Concept

By the mid-1950s the concept of supermarket and self-service reatil shopping was becoming established in the UK. This article from the June 1956 issue of "Art & Industry" magazine looks as the trend and the changes in design this required. This was two-fold; firstly the shelving units, or 'gondolas', that allowed visibilty of products as well as flexibility of layout for the shop, and the changes to the packaging design for goods to be sold via supermarkets and self-service. This latter involved ensuring that packaging was durable and was highly legible for shoppers to allow for recognition.
In terms of shopping fittings and equipments various interiors and layouts are shown as well as examples of units from manufacturers such as Parnall's and their 'Shomore' range.
I've scanned some sample double page spreads.
These pages as well as showing the colourful interior of a typical supermarket, shows and discusses the changing in packaging technology and design that self-service supermarket shopping ushered in for existing brands. Peek Frean biscuits, Chivers Jams, OXO's Fray Bentos tinned soups, Beefex tinned meats, and Quaker cereals are shown along with designers such as THM Partners, Lonsdale-Hands Associates and Erwin Wasey & Co. Ltd, as well as manufacturers such as the Metal Box Company. Premier Supermarket's own brand of packaged tea is also shown.
I've always been fascinated with the concept of building a home using cargo containers as the base structure. Cargo containers are modular, structurally versatile and are remarkably cheap when purchased used. In this design study, I used cargo containers to function as bathrooms, closets, laundry room, kitchen, pantry and mechanical room. Three cargo containers are laid out in a radial pattern forming a triangle with an offset triangular roof over three living separate living spaces sheltered between the cargo containers. I think the cargo containers lend a certain "industrial" look to this otherwise "desert modern" residence. Re-use of existing cargo containing also adds a valuable "Green" element to this structure.

Client's business name is a combination of family members' names. They wanted to have four counties that they cover be represented somewhere on the logo. Colors are to be teal and blue.
These are the logos I came up with. The central ideas played with the concept of family working together "Let our family care for you ..." and the number four to represent the counties and the four co-owners.

Rage is an example of Concept Photography.
1.It addresses a discrete audience –anyone who has ever gotten frustrated trying to do calculations; and a universal audience - anyone who has ever gotten frustrated trying to do calculations.
2.It is not an explicit example of the concept of “rage”, my glowering face is not shown, but a general expression of the concept of rage – which is diagnostic for concept photography.

Tutor's comments;
The board relates well to the brief and you have chosen some good abstract images that conjure up the images and ambience that you are hoping to achieve in the space. The presentation is good, but do take care when choosing coloured boards to mount your images on.

First draft of logo concepts for FlightCaster, an upstart web app that predicts delays on flights hours before the usual consumer ever finds out about them.
Obviously, the idea here is time & flights. The audience is mostly-iphoney-type business people... you know... the cool kids :)
