The Jaguar XK 180 was a concept car created by Jaguar Cars to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the XK car and to show the world the skills of Jaguar stylists, craftsmen and engineers. Only two were built.

It had a 4.2 litre supercharged V8 engine with four valves per cylinder, developing 450 bhp and 445 Ft-Lbs (605Nm) of torque. Its transmission was a five-speed automatic gearbox with rear wheel drive. Seating capacity was two. The top speed was 180 mph (290kmh) and the time to accelerate from standstill to 100km/h was 4.5 seconds. It was capable of covering a 1/4 mile (400m) in 13.5 seconds at 106 mph (170kmh).

The XK180 was styled in the Jaguar Styling Department under the eye of the Company's Director of Styling Geoff Lawson. The lines of the car were the work of Keith Helfet, a Senior Designer at Jaguar and best known for his work on the XJ 220. Helfet's brief was to celebrate the Fiftieth Anniversary of the introduction of the XK Series and he drew influences from a range of XK-powered machines, notably the D-Type. The result combines echoes of past racing Jaguars, in the shape of its rounded nose and the headrests behind the seats, and such unique forms as the 'double-bubble' windscreen.

Nice to find a museum that let's you use a tripod:- 4 seconds at F22 and ISO100

From a side view, you can really see the sculpted mandibles on the mask. As cool as this design is, I understand why they went with a plainer one to avoid spoilers.

These are just three pages sketches from one of my sketchbooks. They are from my Design and Technology project this year, where I am designing a new office building for a client. I feel it is a good example of how my ideas developed. Eventually I began developing this idea of how the views and perspectives should be just as varied and interesting from the inside, as well as from the outside.

The Hinode (Solar-B) spacecraft will circle Earth in a sun-synchronous orbit for at least three years. This is a polar, rather than equatorial, orbit and will allow the instruments to remain in continuous sunlight for nine months of each year.

The Trailhawk concept is based on the redesigned four-door Wrangler with all its off-road credentials. But the interior is designed to be more comfortable, and the exterior more modern. Fully retractable side windows with no B-pillar, and a retractable roof over the cargo area give the Trailhawk the open-air feel of a soft-top Jeep. A single knob works like a computer mouse controls the navigation system. The center console slides from the front to the rear seats and back on a suspended rail, and there are four cup holders in the fold-down tailgate. The Trailhawk is powered by a 3.0-liter BlueTec diesel engine from Mercedes-Benz and uses a 5-speed automatic transmission.

This was the planned concept Ford Territory that ended up as production in 2004, it pulled the crowds in and many were impressed and seen a couple of people signing up to buy one.

More thoughts in the notes...if I can discover the mystical incantation required to add them :P

Maquette

A. The Concept: I wanted to further downscale the Marissacam Jr. for ease in carry and reloading in the field. To combine three cameras into one that could record a triptych of images for one complete 360º circuit. (I know this has been done.)

The concept, to use the same 98mm diameter coffee can as a form for the main body/cylinder and the Muir Glen soup can (84mm dia.) as a form for the 3 internal segments. My intent was to upgrade construction by capping with plywood and surfacing the cylinder with a wood veneer.

I purchased a variety of ply thickness and veneer from Rockler (woodworkers supply) on Denver's Colorado Blvd. It's across the boulevard from a Michael's Crafts.

B. The Sidetrack: After my Rockler purchase, I stopped in Michael's to see if there was anything of camera possibility.

They had these Candle kits in the clearance section for a dollar. In addition to wax and wicks, there are two (silver color) tins in the kit, 60mm dia. x 44mm high.

They also had 75mm dia. color tins for $1 each.

Hmmm....
