A stark cinder cone in Craters of the Moon National Monument is enlivened by yellow rabbit brush. This trail, although not long, is very steep and we elected not to hike to the top.

A street shot from Macclesfield, Cheshire, UK (February 2023)

One from earlier in the year.

Sorry we seem to be on dial up speed at present and internet is very slow for me.

"Like two cathedral towers these stately pines

Uplift their fretted summits tipped with cones;

The arch beneath them is not built with stones,

Not Art but Nature traced these lovely lines,

And carved this graceful arabesque of vines;

No organ but the wind here sighs and moans,

No sepulchre conceals a martyr's bones.

No marble bishop on his tomb reclines.

Enter! the pavement, carpeted with leaves,

Gives back a softened echo to thy tread!

Listen! the choir is singing; all the birds,

In leafy galleries beneath the eaves,

Are singing! listen, ere the sound be fled,

And learn there may be worship with out words."

The volcanic cone of Mount Ngauruhoe encircled by clouds during a colourful sunset.

Wasn't going to do the macro monday thing this week but stumbled across some pine cones after photographing this mornings sunrise.

These seem different than the last one I found on a Doug fir cone. That one was glowing white. My days of including a sunny Bokeh are about over for the season, rainy days.

As fall arrives, colorful leaves fall and adorn the ground, but it is also the time of year for many colorful fungi to emerge amongst those ground colors. Created using Helicon FB to create stack and Helicon Focus SW to process the stack (B,Radius8,Smoothing9)

Coming Winter Food For Natures little Friends.

Kingsburg, Ca.

While driving to an appointment today, I came across this heinous crime. We must find the perpetrator and punish him/her.

Heather and I took Elu for a hike yesterday morning at Greenwood. I loved the look of these side-lit hemlock cones and needles in the morning sun.

It was so cold, though, that my old camera and 18-200 lens were reluctant to cooperate with me. Patience won out, though. :-)

These two volcanic cones fascinated me on this rainy day. Much to intrigue and captivate anyone with a historical or geological interest at The Craters of the Moon, which lies halfway between Boise Idaho and Yellowstone Park. A couple other images from here in comments.

"The Monument and Preserve encompass three major lava fields and about 400 square miles (1,000 km2) of sagebrush steppe grasslands to cover a total area of 1,117 square miles (2,893 km2). The Monument alone covers 53,571 acres (21,679 ha). All three lava fields lie along the Great Rift of Idaho, with some of the best examples of open rift cracks in the world, including the deepest known on Earth at 800 feet (240 m). There are excellent examples of almost every variety of basaltic lava.

Like Yellowstone's Old Faithful, the spatter cone chain at Craters of the Moon best symbolizes the essence of this special place. Created during a dwindling stage of an eruption, the spatter cones formed as hot lumps of lava were thrown a short distance into the air only to fall back to earth around a small central vent. As the still molten blobs landed on top of each other, they cooled and adhered to nearby pieces to form the walls of what could be considered a mini-volcano." Wikipedia

Thanks for taking a look and for any comments, faves and suggestions.

Seen on a tree on our farm following a snow storm back in February. (17-02-28-6692)

For Macro Mondays theme; "Three".

The largest cone measures 3/4 of an inch. The entire image measures 2 x 3 inches.

HMM!

There are tens of thousands of cones in Christchurch after the earthquakes, but they are normally traffic cones.

With a painterly touch.

Just a little scene I happened upon. No deep meaning. Or maybe there is deep meaning and my thoughts just don't run that deep.

Just some cones on one of the many trees on the local golf course, found when I took photos in the fog there. I thought they looked pretty with the frost that morning.
