Other than the newer photocopier, much about the Women's Studies library reminds me of a library in the mid-80s. The collection database isn't fully computerized, and even the books need to be signed out on paper.

The days, or nights of June have been busy days, despite of rain and clouds. There have been useless nights with skies completely covered with clouds. But sometimes, after the rain, the sky becomes pretty clear.

This is one of their main telescopes called SALT (Southern African Large Telescope). Inside there's high-end equipment working around the main workhorse circa 10 meter diameter matrix-mirror telescope. It' really a piece of technological art with all the endless sensors and computerized fine mechanics control to get those very sharp and detailed pictures from the deep Universe.

They are looking at the "Baby think it over" doll (there's a pic of the baby in my photostream) , created to give teens a touch more insight into infant care. My dogs tip toed around, were very curious and showed great concern for this tiny screaming creature.
This cute little bundle of plastic woke my daughter NINE TIMES during the night. Each time she had to get up, change, feed, burp and rock the baby, as well as record the time, the care involved and what the care interrupted for the caretaker. Most of mydaughters care record said "My baby interrupted Fill in the blank__SLEEP___!" The baby woke my son twice. I, secure in the knowledge that I had done my bit for king & country, slept like a lamb. heehee
The next morning both of my children overslept, and were very hard to motivate for school. Lucky for them, I had pumpkin spice coffee and homemade banana bread on hand...made rolling out a little less painful. The baby interrupted the hair & makeup routine, and cried a blue streak as my daughter tried to pack her school bag and make her way out the door.
I think it would be VERY interesting to track the academic performance of the caretaker and their siblings on the following day. I'd like to see those results!
My daughter did an excellent job in caring for this baby...and really I had no doubt that she would. She also developed a deeper understanding of the amount of commitment in caring for a child.

Our 2010 Christmas lights in Round Rock, Texas consisted of 14,260 LED lights using around 1400 watts and less than 12 amps of electricity. The Christmas lights were synchronized to music by computer that people listen to on 106.9 FM. Lights were shown on CNN, GMA, KVUE, Fox New's O'Reilly Factor, and our local Fox station.
Students in the engineering club at Garrard County High School visited the Computerized Manufacturing and Machining program at BCTC's Danville Campus Wednesday, October 28, 2015. Homographies is an interactive installation featuring robotic fluorescent light fixtures controlled by computerized surveillance systems. As people walk under the piece, the light tubes rotate to create labyrinthine patterns of light that are "paths" or "corridors" between them. In Homographies the "vanishing point" is not architectural, but rather connective, as it is determined by who is there at any given time and varies accordingly. This gives a reconfigurable light-space that is based on flow, on motion, on lines of sight.
Rafael Lozano-Hemmer was born in Mexico City in 1967. He received a B.Sc. in Physical Chemistry from Concordia University in Montréal, Canada, where he now lives and works. Lozano-Hemmer’s interactive installations have been featured internationally in museums and at biennials and he has been selected to represent Mexico at the 2007 Venice Biennale.
