My fist work day of 2015. I spent about half of it on this fun little project. Replacing the AC adaptor plug on a laptop. The back cover, top cover, hinge cover, keyboard, and screen all have to be removed to replace it. After two tries it is back together and running again. So many tiny screws.

So to get the CD/DVD armature to sit nicely I had to grind off the right eye, as can be seen here. Not a lot to comment on other than that. I'm *sure* there's some people out there, about now, screaming bloody murder, unethical treatment of stuffed cute furry things, etc. Really I'm sorry, and I have a deep respect for stuffed animals, (owning more than my fair share) but that said, this is for SCIENCE!

This is there you can see the arm coming together. The black bit with the rough edges on it (at the bottom) is the mount point cut straight out of the hard drive casing. The fiber optic cable is going to get glued in place using a spare read head arm turned in reverse and used as a Y

This is a close-up of just the motherboard area - yes it's upside down since the case is backwards. There is an exhaust fan (120mm) that sits ontop of the PCIE area and another fan with an air guide that draws air in and the air guide blows on the FBDIMMs (since they get enormously hot).

This is a backwards case - in that the opposite side opens to reveal the motherboard than normal, the PSU sits in the bottom instead of the top, and the air flow is quite perfect. The hard drive storage area makes the case wonderful.

The CD-sized platters out of a 1.56GB (or was it 1.58GB) 5.25" hard drive, possibly a Quantum, which probably cost around $45,000 when it was new back in 1987.

The Allen key bolts on the top are removable, so the entire platter can be taken apart and all 8 discs removed.

The magnets were also quite fun.
