This "data package" was the computer in the Mercury-Redstone blockhouse at Cape Canaveral. The plaque next to it points out that each of the wires on this core is one word of the instructions. If the wire passed through a core it was a binary "1" if it did not pass through the core it was a "0". This is how instructions were passed to the rocket. Each wire was hand strung and this was only one of many panels of instructions. A picture in the blockhouse showed women stringing wires on a large number of panels. It functions the same as the operating system in a modern computer.

Floor plans call this room, once-part of the lobby, a "computer learning center". The decorative trim around the edges of the ceiling was replicated from the surviving plaster in the lobby. Not sure what's going-on with the windows; finishing-touches were still being worked on at the time of visit.

50th Anniversary for the Department of Computer Science

Here's the setup of the computer.

Our new bedroom PC. Real small -- about the size of a mousepad and 3.5" high. I really like the SD slot on the front. We only use it as a web surfing/email/casual gaming PC, so I ordered the minimum/standard specs: AMD Athlon 2650e 1.6 gigahertz single-core CPU (only 15 watts -- basically a laptop CPU), 2 gb ram, ATi Radeon HD3200 graphics. 250 gb hdd, DVD burner, Windows Vista Basic. all for $249. I thought it'd be slow with Vista, but it's pretty snappy -- faster than the huge 5 year old Celeron PC that it replaced. Most people use these Zinos as home theatre PC's but they also work great as basic computers. It makes no noise at all. The fans are whisper quiet.

Only one apple computer on Shanghai TM

i don't think i have ever had a virus protector on my computer (maybe bc i was secretly hoping it would crash and force me to buy a Mac)....but it has been acting so crazy lately that i couldn't stand it....put a virus protector on it and found virus's on my computer stringing back from 2005! No wonder my computer completely crashed about 8 months ago making me lose all my old documents, photos, music, etc!

i fucking hate Dell. SUCK IT!

ps. this computer is STILL under warranty...anyone know the secret to either get my money back or get a new computer...it crashes ALL the time.....and Dell support (or lack there of) never does anything about it.

Just back from 3 computer free weeks on the canal. Will be trying to catch up with you all soon. :-) Here we are crossing Barton Bridge - where the Trent and Mersey Canal crosses over the Manchester Ship Canal. Lots of diagonals here! 2014 Weekly Alphabet Challenge. Week 30. D is for Diagonal.

Keyboard, mouse, and media nicely packaged in the box next to the computer.

Case buttoned up and a successful POST complete. Tomorrow I'll install Win7 and apps.

The two computers in the background are mine. My PC and the iBook. The computer in the foreground is the brand new MacBook that I was installing software on for a family member.

Back side of computer rack in server room.

I got a new camera, my husband got new computer equipment. He told me to play with his old motherboard to take pics. None of them are in fantastic focus, but I'm not going to mind this time.

I've been playing with reversed macro shots and other "macro like" equipment.

Young imaginations run wild as a discarded keyboard, with mouse wire attached to a plastic lunchbox, gives these children the make-believe thrill of playing hands-on with a “real” computer.
