With more time to kill, Jack and I checked out Paul Allen's Living Computer Museum and saw old home computers and mainframes, many of which allow interaction.

Laptop is sitting on a Zaltman Notebook cooler. It helps about 5C, bought it when I was having some overheating problems. Turns out that the laptop was clogged up with dust, but I prefer the loan drone of the laptop cooler to the higher pitch the laptop makes. Thats assuming I can even hear it over the Boston Speakers :)

What an absolute pain it is proving to be, sorting out various programs, etc. after Windows 10 was installed on my computer!! One of the things is Microsoft Office that was already on my computer. In the end, I gave up trying to get 'support' for reactivating it in Windows 10, Instead, in pure frustration, I decided to buy a new version from Staples, to be downloaded to my computer. Was not too pleased to discover that they are having problems - as soon as technicians have solved the issue, they will email a download button. Also, still have to sort out why my "recovered" emails won't open, even though they are all listed. Keep running out of time to phone technician, thanks to trying to solve other Windows 10 issues.
It's back to the present for the five photos I have posted around noon today. They were all taken on a drive east and north-east of the city on 22 November 2019, when my daughter and I had a great day out together.
It felt so good to get away from all my computer problems and spend the day with my daughter out in the countryside. Needless to say, we had hoped to find a Snowy Owl, which we did, though it was distant. My daughter is excellent at spotting things, so if there had been Snowies anywhere, I am confident she would have seen them. We were so glad to see this one, rather than none at all. I wonder how long it had been sitting there and how much longer it sat there after we quickly moved on.
I must say the day was a great day for finding old barns, though! A favourite thing with both my daughter and myself. I heard voices in one farmyard and I asked if we could take a photo of their beautiful old barn, from the road. The guy very kindly told us to drive right in and go and take any photos we wanted. Unfortunately, we were looking into the sun, but we still managed to do OK. Captured a couple of old sheds in the yard, too. Generous farm owners are always immensely appreciated!
An unexpected side trip, at my daughter's suggestion, was to visit again the old grain elevator and barn at Sharples. I think I have been there either two or three times before, but never when snow is on the ground. Visits have always ended up later in the day, when the sun is in the wrong place. One of these days .....
"The Elevator is marked P&H. This company, Parrish & Heimbecker, was one of the smaller players in the Canadian grain industry with a fewer number of elevators seen when compared to the big boys like UGG (United Grain Growers), Pioneer and the Alberta Wheat Pool (“The Pool”). Interestingly, each elevator company used specific colours on their structures making identifying them a fairly easy task. P&H mostly used either silver like what’s seen here, or a light yellow-ish colour – most other companies stuck to one colour.
The elevator here was built just after the rail line was opened (early 1920s) and the large annex attached was added some twenty years later. An annex like this was a quick and easy way to increase capacity and a large elevator allowed for more efficient loading of rail cars. While solid looking, the building is succumbing to the elements. The siding in particular is starting to peeling away.

Here Kerry offers us a closer inspection of his Amstrad ALT286, by comparison to the Acoustic Couplers "a spring chicken, dating to around 1989. This was connected up to a particle sizer to do boffin work."
Like the Couplers, it's kept just in case it's needed again...
