HISTORY

Pillar built in May 1949 costing £8.16s.10d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station SD47/T27 within the Barrow-in-Furness secondary block in 1950. Flush bracket S5454 was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards during February 1956. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in November 1976.

 

SITE VISIT

Approached from northwest. Ample free roadside parking by track into nature reserve at SD175970. Followed mapped RoW network all the way. Rough grassy area surrounded by foliage. Pillar in fair condition. Spider centre open and filled with debris. Flush bracket faces northeast, compass measurement 39°. Vented through SE sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view.
