NS290728, LR63.
HISTORY
Pillar completed 24th September 1948 costing £10.0s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NS29/17 within the Greenock block, and levelled to second class precision during 1952. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in July 1978.
SITE VISIT
Approached from the WNW. Parked on the southeast verge of Old Largs Road at NS290728. Followed the mapped tracks and footpaths all the way to the summit. The pillar is in fair condition. The spider centre is plugged with tar. Flush bracket S4985 faces NE, compass measurement 56°. All four horizontal sight holes are open but the innards blocked with debris. Full 360° panoramic view from the top. This summit is only one mile from Greenock yet it is quite a desolate moor with peat bogs. Nice place for respite.
Photographed: 15th April 2013, GRP.
