Two cattle feeder composters. I lift the feeder off the compost with a front end loader and then use the tractor to re-pile the material. Most difficult thing is to keep the material moist.
We have stopped using this system June 2011.

Never needs cleaning. Just stir it up every now and then. It's biggest problem is it's location, about 80 yards down the mountain from the lookout.
I like it when I get a full bowl of compost filler from meal preparations - I know it's going to be good food if it takes that many fresh ingredients. :)
Probably one of the best designed compost bin out in the market. Compost bins are generally not known for creativity in styles.
This is the greenhouse where we have rainwater thermal stooge at the back, a compost pile on the other side that we collect heat from, and the beds buried in sand (sand not installed in this picture), that we use to propagate our nursery plants.
We put all of our food scraps into our compost bucket and then when it's full take it to our local "sanitary district" where they compost the whole shebang w/yard waste, etc. We're on the waiting list for an "Earth Machine" so we can do it all at home, and have the lovely compost for our garden too.

Made with 3 entire pallets taken from work and pallet boards from an hvac delivery last summer.
The back pallet was tied with rope to the left and the right and I made a gate for the front. The front gate's held on by simple latches since I won't be swinging open daily. The right side is covered with chicken wire since I didn't have enough boards to cover the areas that an opossum could get through.
I made the gate at different heights just to be creative I guess. My cousin has my chop saw and the humidity has lead me to believe that accuracy doesn't really matter for something that will hold decaying matter. I did brace it with another pallet board at an almost 45 degree angle.
We'll see how this goes. Perhaps next year I'll do something more permanent.
Devlin and I made a worm house today. Essentially three stacking Rubbermaid tubs with holes in two of them for ventilation and for the worms to migrate. We roughly used the directions here...
Took the snow fence off and added a wire mesh to the inside. Using a tarp around outside to protect from the wind and one on top to prevent rainfall from getting it too soggy.
Addendum: Have discovered that a wire bin doesn't work all that well if one likes their compost very fine, it leaks out through the wire. It's fine for courser stuff.
Update: As of summer of 2011, I don't use these for composting anymore. A local farmer bought the feeders.
Compost bin I just finished building. The front slats are removable to make turning the pile, loading, and unloading easier.
We compost most of our leftovers from our pecan processing plant (the stuff that is not composted is used to fill holes in the road, used as mulch in the garden, or whatever else we could think of).
Husband and I plowed up a little of what will become my vegetable garden in 2012. I also collected our fall pumpkins and gourds we used for decorations to compost in the garden.
I HATE it when I upload photos and they get all friggin mixed up. It's SO annoying. Anyway, Matt and Angie have a compost bin and I am SO SO ENVIOUS of it. This is the bin they keep in the kitchen and here, Angie is walking out to dump it in the big bin in the yard. I think its beautiful.
A standard FarmCity compost bin - approximately 2x2x4', made of cedar (naturally weather- and rot-resistant, no added chemicals), with lots of air circulation. The front boards lift out so that you can get a shovel in easily.
An old cattle feeder with used snow fencing on the inside. These are about 8 feet across and four feet high. The steel bar sticking out on the left side is used as the temperature probe. As long as it is too hot to touch when pulled out, I know the inside is "cooking".

A libelinha, ou libélula, é um insecto alado pertencente à sub-ordem Anisoptera. As larvas de libelinha (chamadas ninfas) são aquáticas, carnÃvoras e extremamente agressivas, podendo alimentar-se não só de insectos mas também de girinos e peixes juvenis.
As libelinhas não têm a capacidade de picar, visto que as suas mandÃbulas estão adaptadas à mastigação. Dentro do seu ecossistema, são bastante úteis no controlo das populações de mosquitos e das suas outras presas, prestando assim um serviço importante ao Homem.

My worm bin is from the Los Angeles county Smart Gardeners program (Wriggly Ranch brand). But you can get them loads of places online, perhaps from your city, or from certain nurseries.
A composting toilet is a dry toilet that uses a predominantly aerobic processing system that treats excreta, typically with no water or small volumes of flush water, via composting or managed aerobic decomposition.
Composting toilets may be used as an alternative to flush toilets in situations where there is no suitable water supply or waste treatment facility available or to capture nutrients in human excreta as humanure. They are in use in many of the roadside facilities in Sweden and in national parks in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
The human excrement is normally mixed with sawdust, coconut coir, peat moss to support aerobic processing, absorb liquids, and to reduce the odor. The decomposition process is generally faster than the anaerobic decomposition used in wet sewage treatment systems such as septic tanks.
The Excel is the best-selling unit in North America. It is a high capacity Bio-drum toilet that is very simple to operate, features well proven technology and is extremely reliable. The Excel was the first ever self-contained composting toilet to be certified by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).
To simulate residential use the Excel was tested by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) at maximum capacity for 6 continuous months, during which the Excel produced no odour and produced a clean, safe compost.
The 2" vent is attached at the top back of the Excel and can be installed invisibly by running it through the wall and up the outside wall. For comfort the Excel has a sturdy detachable footrest which can be removed to pull out the finishing drawer.
