I mashed about in the back yard & woods, then decided to turn the big compost pile. Added stuff from to small bins. Inner core steaming! Wow!
I didn't turn my compost at all last winter and it froze. I'm gonna keep turning this winter to have garden compost early spring :)
Really something to see what looks like a pile of snow, is actually food & leaf waste breaking down to essential elements, high nutrient dirt.

The City of Port Coquitlam kicked off Earth Week 2010 on Monday morning with an event at Kwayhquitlum Middle School that illustrates the journey food scraps take from kitchen to cart to compost.
The first 100 people who arrived received a free bag of compost and a Kitchen Composter Starter Kit!

The pulp from the coffee cherries is composted. This pulp can then be used for other purposes in the fields.

We were visiting Shaxi after the corn harvest, and here you see the stalks and husks drying on top of what will be next year's raised beds. Agriculture is still conducted on a small-scale and largely by hand, with the exception of ox- and water buffalo-led plows. This kind of micro-farming allows for sensible management strategies such as composting in this mannder.
