I wanted a pic like this but since I didnt have a tele , I shot in RAW and then cropped what I wanted... Then used Duotone colors to get this effect.... I should have used Grid LInes to correct my horizons but D50 doesnt come with grid lines in the View Finder :(
My choices in composing this photo were based on line and angle. I wanted to express the chipped, torn paint details and show that it is an older fence. Also I chose this angle to make the lines more interesting; they look bigger and bolder as if I was looking up at the fence. I think the white posts are pretty bold and separated from the background. I chose to reduce the saturation to make the white posts stand out more against the cement background. This photo was originally in color with good natural light, but I felt that by dimming the saturation, it made the white bolder against the darker shades of gray. I used a wide focal length originally, to get a feel for the pattern of the posts. I used an auto white balance because I had good natural light from outside. I wanted the main focus to be on the chipped paint, but having a wider focal length still gave me the details and the mood with the length of the posts.
