One more from my Woodpecker day out.
It rained a bit recently (a rarity in Southern California) so I headed out to a local park to see if the rain had caused some wildlife action. I spotted this Acorn Woodpecker Chasing Bugs. Didn’t take him long to make a catch. Life is Good !!

Acorn Woodpecker
Reminiscent of a troupe of wide-eyed clowns, Acorn Woodpeckers live in large groups in western oak woodlands. Their social lives are endlessly fascinating: they store thousands of acorns each year by jamming them into specially made holes in trees.
A group member is always on alert to guard the hoard from thieves, while others race through the trees giving parrot-like waka-waka calls. Their breeding behavior is equally complicated, with multiple males and females combining efforts to raise young in a single nest.
Acorn Woodpeckers are medium-sized woodpeckers with straight, spike-like bills and stiff, wedge-shaped tails used for support as the birds cling to tree trunks.
These striking birds are mostly black above with a red cap, creamy white face, and black patch around the bill. In flight, they show three patches of white: one in each wing and one on the rump. Females have less red on the crown than males.
Acorn Woodpeckers are very unusual woodpeckers that live in large groups, hoard acorns, and breed cooperatively.
Group members gather acorns by the hundreds and wedge them into holes they’ve made in a tree trunk or telephone pole. Acorn Woodpeckers also spend considerable time catching insects on the wing.
These woodpeckers live in oak and mixed oak-conifer forests on slopes and mountains in the Southwest and West Coast. They’re tolerant of humans, and you can find them in towns where there are acorns and suitable places to store them.

(Edited to Taste)
The bird on the left almost missed the landing, while the unrelated goldfinch (Spinus tristis), right, seemed to observe.
The young bird with uncertain footing most probably is a young cowbird.
Thanks for your comments.
Large, stocky gull of the North Pacific. Generally fairly pale and uniform-looking; at all ages, note wingtips and back are approximately the same color. Takes four years for immatures to progress from mostly brown to fully white and gray adult plumage; intermediate plumages are often mottled and messy. Most immatures look frosty grayish-brown with smooth patterning. Found in coastal areas, including beaches, mudflats, and even city parks. Identification is complicated by frequent hybridization with Western, Herring, and Glaucous Gulls in various parts of range. Pure birds can be difficult to find and identify with certainty, and many intermediate birds are best left unidentified. (eBird)

I loved working on the colors while staying in white. Even if I admit, it was complicated. I hope you like it !

Bare roots with intricate shapes, with some green moss as a comfort. The relationship of the human species with nature is also complicated, but one thing to keep in mind is that economic growth with decent work, rising living standards and human well-being will critically hinge on preserving, managing and restoring the natural assets on which all life and economic activity depend. Things get be a little complicated in city life.

Doing a bit of sliding in these times.
Vacation or travel is still a bit difficult for us, though slowly it seems that we can go on a small holiday in the Netherlands soon. The sliding is an idea the style of mr. Escher gave me. And yes, I ave copied a bit of his style here in photography. I don't think it's a sin. The original picture was taken in Rotterdam , from above the entrance to the trainstation Blaak . It was a rather sunny day . Without the sliding that station already looks complicated, but when one slides here, we get a real wow effect in my opinion.
There is a lady going up on the escalator, and there is one person standing in front of the kiosk. They are reflected three times, while the stairs and the red handrails are giving this processed photo it's magical mathematical style. Going up and down at the same time.
It's easy to be complicated but very difficult to be simple.

I will be out most of the day Saturday, but will catch up with you all later!
The simplest things can wake a creative mind. The most complicated things can destroy it. Open your mind to golden opportunities and remember so share with others the good you can.

I do not believe that any edition can overcome the sharpness, transparency, truth ... Although sometimes in life it is difficult and complicated to find "the real thing", it is always necessary to look for it.
In her poem, "The Summer Day," Mary Oliver describes a grasshopper, "who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes." Yesterday afternoon, after meeting this grasshopper in a field of sunflowers, she posed so nicely for me, all the while fixing me with her "enormous and complicated eyes."
Happy August, everyone!
The variety is so numerous that is difficult to do correct identification.
Even between of these two photos there are subtle differences.
This is a photo of my mother taken around 1946 so she would have been about 18 yrs old but I am guessing on the year and age. The story of my mother is so dangerously complicated however it is the least complicated way to describe her.
I didn't take this photo as I was several years away from being born. I did do the editing. Thanks to www.flickr.com/photos/lenabem-anna/ for the texture.

It’s a strange and wondrous world a photographer lives in, searching for truth that is objective and subjective at once…a combination to show what really happened and our own insight. When it comes to capturing a facial expression, you have to gain an intuition about the way a subtle change or a shift in shadow changes our perception of what stage the idea in a mind or a felt emotion was in terms of coming to fruition. We are all complex people but Yoshimi of The Boredoms and OOIOO is perhaps one of the more complicated artists and humans out there. And sometimes, this makes it impossible to choose one photograph instead of two the same way a mind might experience two thoughts at once veering towards the same awareness point. Time passes and that same moment might disappear into a distant vanishing point…this is why we have cameras after all…in order to study the nuances of what makes us humans.
Incidentally, this same kind of conundrum and artistic experience occurred a few other times but most notably when I took a couple of portraits of the Canadian singer, Julie Doiron. I couldn’t decide what I liked best and so I included both:

I also think that we’re all living many lives and sometimes catch glimpses of each other….are we the same human if we’re the sum of all of our experiences and those experiences diverge at a certain point? Maybe not…..but perhaps….perhaps….we can catch a glimpse of ourselves and show some recognition and maybe even a smile.
