"Photography is a small voice, at best, but sometimes one photograph, or a group of them, can lure our sense of awareness."
W. Eugene Smith
In the center of a Dogwood blossom you'll find the most incredible sphere. The true flowers are tightly clustered there, surrounded by white petal-like bracts. A bract is a modified or specialized leaf which can serve the function of attracting pollinators. Nature is full of lovely surprises.

Possibly the last of this little series of blossoming blackthorn at Wittenham Clumps. The branches of these trees always fascinate with their complexity, a feast for the eyes to wander. Couple that with a glorious display of white flower and the seem now to be dancing.

Looking closely at a dragonfly, their structure is quite amazing. Quite delicate, yet, superbly functional.
The Viaducts, Castlefield, Manchester
A trip into Manchester last Friday to meetup with Eddie Coulson. No particular plan in mind other than a catchup and to take a few snaps. There’s a new entertainment complex being built on the site of the old Coronation St set within the Granada Studios complex, which now resides at Salford Quays. This new entertainment venue is due to open June 2023 so I thought we could wander down there and see how its progressing. Unfortunately, you can’t get anywhere near the site, let alone take pictures – that will have to wait until June now.
It's only a short walk to Castlefield so we ventured there. It’s been a few years since I last visited and I’m sorry to say the place looks awful now. Yes, there was graffiti then, but now it’s everywhere… the place looks like a sh**hole and to say that this was Britain’s first Urban Heritage Park.
The Emosson dam has a great allure. It lays in a grandiose site with an extraordinary landscape on the Mont-Blanc Massif. The dam is 80 m (262 ft) high, It has a thickness of 58 m (190 ft) at the base, and 4.5 m (13 ft) at the top. It is 250 m (820 ft) long at its top, at an altitude of 1,930 m (6332 ft). The reservoir has a capacity of 225 million m3 (about 75,000 Olympic swimming pools). This makes a magnificent lake. It is the 2nd artificial reservoir in Switzerland. Upstream from the Emosson dam is the Vieux-Emosson dam at an altitude of 2,205 m (7234 ft), built in 1955.
The Emosson dam was completed in 1975. It replaced a smaller dam, the Barberine dam, which dated from 1925. Built not far from the Franco-Swiss border, it is the keystone of a major hydroelectric complex straddling France and Switzerland, with 3 hydroelectric power plants powered by this dam

While touring the Kenai Fjords, the boat operator put us up close to some shear cliffs that had waterfalls on them. This looked to be a fan waterfall but with some interesting interactions with the underlying cliff causing the water to radiate and spray in a specific pattern.

Juniperus brevifolia, a juniper species endemic to the Azores, grows near Lagoa do Capitão on the island of Pico. This juniper is endangered due to habitat loss throughout the archipelago. At Lagoa do Capitão, the tree's twisted, branching form adds a magical atmosphere to area around the lake. The small, shallow lake fills a sag along a northwest-southeast trending fault in the São Roque-Piedade Volcanic Complex on Pico's eastern end.

In the ASTRA National Museum Complex, Sibiu, Romania
The Romanian cultural association ASTRA decided in 1897 to establish a museum of Romanian civilization as a "shelter for keeping the past". The "ASTRA" Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization (Romanian: Muzeul Civilizaţiei Populare Tradiţionale "ASTRA") is located in the Dumbrava Forest, 3 km south of Sibiu. Occupying an area of 0.96 square kilometers, it is the largest open-air museum in Romania and one of the largest in Central and Eastern Europe. It contains houses and workshops of the traditional Romanian folk culture from the pre-industrial era. Over 300 houses and other buildings are situated in the forest around two artificial lakes with over 10 km of walkways between them.
The exhibits are organized into six thematic groups: food production and animal husbandry; production of raw materials; means of transportation; manufacture of household objects; public buildings; an exposition of monumental sculpture. (Wikipedia)
The Qutb complex is considered to be the first foundation of Delhi. On the ruins of Delhi's first mosque - built after the Muslim conquest of the city (around 1200).
The portico of the Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque framing the courtyard consists of columns/pillars from destroyed Hindu and Jain temples.

The next day the weather was better and after a good breakfast at the "Hotel Steel" we got to work fresh. We managed to get at least one good picture on the south side of the complex, but it is clear that we wanted more. After a double check by the Ochrona, we positioned ourselves near the oxygen station and waited there in the din of the huge facilities. Two Qarmet locomotives were active at the same time and posed for us: TEM2UM-907 was shunting scrap for the steel converter, while TEM1-1697 was moving into the plant. Under the bridge, i.e. below us, the Ochrona was active and checking the fence. We noticed very clearly that we were not welcome and went in search of another place.
