In Mauritius, the IWRM demonstration project is located in the Northern grand Baie district. The Northern districts of Mauritius is predominantly a touristic development area, mainly along the coast site, with the agricultural activities also account for significant part of the economy. 50%-60% of the potable water supply in the northern region is from groundwater, with a high demand for both tourist sector and agricultural irrigation, with about 29 Domestic Pumping Stations, 33 Industrial Boreholes and 41 Agricultural Boreholes. The IWRM project aims to demonstrate groundwater watershed management in the context of competing environmental and economic interests. This will be demonstrated through the establishment of integrated planning and management of wastewater collection, treatment and reuse.
