Mooresville, NC - The 11th annual AutoGeek Detail Fest was a great time despite the inclement weather that rolled in Saturday afternoon.

In addition to all the activities going on at the Detail Fest car show, the film crew from Competition Ready was on hand to shoot the final episode of the new Velocity TV show Competition Ready with hosts Mike Phillips and Adrienne Janic. Part of the final episode included detailing and judging 6 professional car builder’s cars that were invited to compete for the Detailer’s Cup Trophy. Cars from Bobby Alloway, Andy Leach, Gateway Mustang, Year One, Hot Rod Transformations and our very own 1969 Charger from Detroit Speed were part of the invited builders. When the professional and celebrity judges cast their final votes, Andy Leach’s Ridler winning 1940 Ford was crowned champion of the inaugural Detailer’s Cup.

The crew at AutoGeek had many activities going on throughout the weekend. There was live car detailing demonstrations, celebrity autograph signings with Mike Phillips, Chris Jacobs, Dennis Gage, Ray Evernham from Americarna, Bruno Massel and Matt Steele from Truck U, Cristy Lee from All Girls Garage and even Barry Meguiar was on hand.

I competed in the Busselton Half Iron Man today. I did the half marathon run leg as part of a team. Came in at 1 hour 37 minutes. It was a personal best, but I know I could have done better. The last part I had some cramping in my calf, and that slowed me down.

Good chance I'll do it next year as part of a team again.

David McPherson, professional motorcycle racing driver competes on Atlas, electric motorcycle build by the University of Michigan students at an AHRMA race in the Carolina Motorsports Park track in March 2023.

Members of SPARK, Electric Motorcycle Racing Team hired a professional motorcycle racing driver and brought their motorcycle Atlas to South Carolina to participate in the AHRMA (American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association) races at the Carolina Motorsports Park track. The electric bicycle successfully competed against both combustible engine and electric bikes on Saturday. On Sunday, the bicycle reached its fastest lap time ever but then the motorcycle driver crashed on a sharp turn during a race. Neither the driver nor bike sustained any major damage.

The University of Michigan’s SPARK Electric Racing Team has been building electric racing motorcycles since 2013. At the end of summer 2022, SPARK took home second and third place in AHRMA’s Formula Lightning race in New Jersey—in only the team’s second racing competition ever.

By 2024, SPARK aims to compete at the Isle of Man TT.

Current bike Atlas features a custom steel trellis frame, a zero-to-60 mph speed of three seconds, and a top speed of 160 mph. It produces a claimed 125 horsepower, alongside 88 pound-feet of torque. Total curb weight is 280 pounds.

Hello and welcome to my first NTM contest. I just wanted to start one to probably meet some awesome people who would compete. So here it goes.

Requirements: Must have a doll. Any doll ex. (Barbie, Bratz, MH, Begoths, Pullips, and even BJD.) No boys. If you audition with a boy I might take it but the themes will be hard for boys. Your doll must represent you. It doesn't have to be a carbon copy of you but more of a doll who represents your whole take on fashion and style. Your symbol of your user name.

Prizes: A $50,000 dollar contract with BJR Magazine

A lifetimes supply of stolen M.A.C products, brought to you by Brooke Billington

And a travel to any location with Bratz and Barbz airlines.

Auditions: Your doll must have an outfit that represents you. Black and blues, whites and golds, or even chartreuse and brown. Whatever appeals to you. Hair must be gorgeous. Frizz is not the bizz. I might take into consideration if you cannot fix your dolls hair. Afros are accepted.

Rules: Catfights are fun but don't get into the place where you threaten or tell them to kill them selves. Its not qute. No stolen pictures. I want decent quality if I can count the pixels on two hands its a no. And finally have fun. Enjoy.

Deadline July 4th

I competed for the Renzo Gracie Team in a handful of tournaments (about 5) in the NY City area. My career in firefighting put a stop to the training and competing due to time constraints. I also don't want to blow out any of my joints off-duty. My job puts a roof over my head and keeps the bills paid. Anyhow, I've gotten injured on the job- knee and back. I think I'll train again just to stay practiced.

I competed at 139 lb and below &149 lb and below. I competed at adult beginner, intermediate, and master (30 yr. & older). I walk at 155 lb now.

Paratriathletes compete over three disciplines, in five classification groups (PT1 – PT5). Although the disciplines are the same for the Olympic athlete, the training principles aren’t directly transferrable.

The short history of the sport means that effective training principles for the paratriathlete are still being developed, and there’s very little applicable published data in the area.

The British Triathlon Federation (BTF) and their paratriathlon performance manager Jonathan Riall decided that the best way to develop effective training principles for paratriathletes would be to carry out a scientific study of the development/elite squad of athletes, while documenting existing knowledge.

The BTF – with funding from the Peter Harrison Foundation – granted a physiological support project at Loughborough University (2014-2015) for the paratriathlon performance athletes.

The team at the Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport consists of Katy Griggs has carefully planned a programme of testing that will support the athletes and coaches during the build up to Rio 2016.

The main purpose is to give athletes a physiological advantage over their competitors, by ensuring that they’re in the best shape for Rio with an effective training strategy.

Phil Hogg at Loughborough University

The project involves assessing the squad members over a range of test protocols at specific points in their training cycle. As noted before, paratriathlon sports training knowledge is still developing and some of the ‘empirical laws’ of training may need to be challenged.

This has therefore provided staff within the PHC a valuable opportunity to collect data of this nature. Alongside the longitudinal physiological profiles of paratriathletes, three main applied research topics have been developed:

1. Understanding the economy of running/pushing following the transition of the cycle discipline;

2. Monitoring the immune function in paratriathletes across a season;

3. Cooling and acclimatisation strategies for paratriathletes.

Many paratriathletes will display a unique physiological response during exercise depending upon their physical impairment. For example, for athletes in the PT1 class (wheelchair athletes), the considerably smaller amount of muscle mass used and varying trunk stability must be taken into account. These athletes will also have impaired thermoregulatory capacity compared with their able-bodied counterparts.

British paratriathlete at Loughborough University

This is most likely caused by impairment to the nervous system which disrupts the control of skin blood flow. Moreover, athletes with cerebral palsy will display impaired movement patterns during fatigue and may also find exercise in the heat detrimental to performance. Research is still ongoing for the second and third topics highlighted above, but further work is warranted.

It is envisaged that the applied research findings, together with the testing and monitoring of the training programmes, will enable the PHC team to educate the athletes and their coaches to understand the physiological background of training principles and preparation strategies. In turn this will help with the development of training programmes that are specific to the sport as well as to the individual concerned.

This is a photograph from the 30th annual Bohermeen AC Patrick Bell 5KM Road Race, Jog, Walk, and Fun Run which was held at Bohermeen AC, Ardbracan, Navan, Co. Meath, Ireland at 19:30 on Saturday 6th June 2015. The race was held in warm sunshine but with the presence of a very strong headwind which made running conditions difficult in places for all participants. The race commemorates Patrick Bell, the late Bohermeen clubman who died tragically in the summer of 1985 following a traffic accident, whilst returning home from Cork having competed in the National track championships. The wonderful atmosphere, the great racing and participation, the work by the club, Meath Athletics, the local community, and the long summer evening is, yet again, a fitting tribute to Patrick's memory and his contribution to Athletics in Ireland. The race also commemorates clubman Nicky Philips. Congratulations to everyone involved. Everything that is good about grassroots athletics and running in Ireland was on show in Bohermeen tonight. The race route reverted to the 2013 course as last year (2014) the course had to be changed at the last moment due to a funeral which was taking place in the area. The folks at Bohermeen AC and the local community hosted a barbeque, cook-out, and entertainment late into the night. It has earned the reputation as having one of the best after race atmospheres you are likely to find in Ireland. The race started 400m from the Bohermeen AC track and heads towards Navan. The course then makes 3 right hand turns around some beautiful rural country roads and turns back to Bohermeen AC and then back for the final kilometer which is straight to the track and the finish on about 60 meters of athletics track. Over 600 participants took part making it one of the largest 5KM races in the region

This is a set of photographs from the end of the race until about the 25 minute finish time. The full set is available at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157651804660314

If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

I want to download these pictures to my computer or device?

You can download this photographic image here directly to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. How to download will vary slight from device to device and from browser to browser. Have a look for a down-arrow symbol or the link to 'View/Download' all sizes. When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.

I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?

If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

In summary please remember when requesting photographs from us - If you are using the photographs online all we ask is for you to provide a link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. I would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait- This week Soldiers from Afghanistan and Kuwait compete to become the 1st Sustainment Command (Theater) Best Warrior. The Best Warrior competition is a five-day event that challenges every Soldier’s mental and physical limitations with a variety of contests.

The first day the Soldiers were literally put to the test, as they answered a variety of questions ranging from Army regulation and Sexual Harassment Assault & Response Prevention to vehicle preventive maintenance checks and services (PMCS).

After exercising their brains on day one, the second day opened up with Soldier’s taking an Army Physical Fitness Test, followed by a scorching hot Kuwait afternoon filled with Army Warrior Tasks (AWT). Each Soldier was tested on five separate AWT’s, and whether it was evaluating a casualty under fire, PMCS or reacting to a chemical agent by properly decontaminating themselves, each Soldier proved up to the challenge.

On Day three the competitors were transported north to Camp Buehring, Kuwait, for a long day of weapon qualification and land navigation. The 1st TSC and 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) cadre were set up and ready to go as the warriors arrived and helped expedite the competitors through their challenges. The land navigation began in the afternoon following the qualification challenge, and it was perhaps the toughest of the week as shade was non-existent on a navigational course sprawled across open desert and few landmarks to guide them.

After a long day the sweat soaked Soldiers prepared themselves for a 12-mile ruck march early on day four. Each Soldier finished in under the three-hour time limit, and spirits were never higher as competitors who finished quickly dropped their ruck and hustled back to pick up their battle buddies who were farther behind. After a few hours rest, each Soldier prepared for the mystery event later that afternoon. Each Soldier and their sponsor pondered what the event would include. Could it be combatives? Swimming? In the end it was a drill and ceremony event, as the importance of drill and ceremony becomes center stage as the Army transitions to a garrison environment.

Friday will bring their final test, a formal board filled with sergeants major, and Saturday the 1st TSC will crown their new Best Warrior, who will represent the 1st TSC next month in the U.S. Army Central Best Warrior Competition here.

The Budapest demonstrations against Gyurcsany; protesters at the Hungarian parliament, evening of 19 September. See this blog post and subsequent ones.

Flags galore present competing concepts of identity. The Parliament building itself sports the EU stars on blue, while protestors carry the Hungarian national flag, but also the uebernationalist red-and-white striped "Arpad-flag". Arpad was the founding father of the Hungarian nation so to say, and the flag represents the yearning for Hungarian purity and greatness. It was also the flag used by the fascist Arrow Cruisers when they took power in 1944.
