The scroll with the portrait of one of the most revered Buddhism deities in China, Avalokiteshvara, had so many interesting details, including the eleven faces, a common manifestation. This bodhisattva, a being on his/her way to Buddhahood, was typically associate with compassion. I could see religious elements from the Chinese interpretation as well as some that I wasn’t familiar with, perhaps from other cultures that co-existed in ancient Dunhuang.
This ‘Compassion’ themed CreativeMornings/SP event was generously hosted by NOVA 535 with special support from Roundhouse Creative and The Movement Sanctuary.
