The tallest statue in Europe of Avalokisthvara, the Buddha of Compassion, at Lama Tzong Khapa Institute - Tibetan Buddhist center in Tuscany.
Đền Quan Âm or the Shrine of Avalokitesvara is located near the summit of Nui Sam. It's a new colourful construction.
Nameplate of the shrine is written with a Chinese influenced calligraphic style of the Vietnamese alphabet.
There are people in tourist areas in Vietnam, who write your name or whatsoever with this style of alphabet for souvenirs.
The bodhisattva of compassion often has female figures in Vietnam. Not only Avalokitesvara but also other deities tend to be feminised in Vietnam including Buddha. It is supposed to be an influence from the folk beliefs that are deep rooted in the Vietnamese religious traditions.

Since COVID started infecting people all over the world and many were dying, I started thinking about compassion. We think we have it so hard when we have to stay indoors, or just walking about our neighbourhoods, but compared to the very ill and their families, as well as all the front line workers, we have it good, and we’re safe. I had a couple of days when I guess I could say I felt sorry for myself for not being able to get out, but then I really realized that I’m one of the lucky ones! And I feel so much compassion for all the unlucky ones and those whom this worldwide curse is affecting the most. Even if people aren't sick, so many are experiencing anxiety, panic attacks and fear.
So I decided I wanted to create a piece on compassion. I tried a couple of times over two weeks, but with lighting issues and other problems, I gave up for awhile. But determination took over, and although I know my lighting isn’t the greatest, and this isn’t a technically good photograph, it’s what I wanted to convey. As I only had myself to shoot, I am both people in the image (which had its issues as well), but I didn’t want any faces shown, as this is a universal issue. Having to be in both roles reminded me that we need to have compassion for ourselves as well. I hope that this conveys my feelings in creating this image. We are all in this together and compassion and empathy are what we need.

THE COLOR “RED” IN CHINA
Of all the colors, “red” attracts the most attention. The people considered the red color auspicious and a color that expresses honor.
Time has passed, but the thought of respect for the color red has not changed. No matter where and when (in China), people use red color to express happiness. People see the red color as a symbol of happiness, success, loyalty and justice (see also: the mask in Peking Opera).
And especially in China, it is believed that the red color has the effect of keeping bad and evil away from the human body:
Red lamps are hung on New Year's Day, the firecrackers have a red cover, the banners on the door are red.
In addition, many are accustomed to wearing red in years when the number "9" occurs, to avoid the evil. Therefore, it can be said that the red color is China's lucky color, bringing people stability, happiness and prosperity

First, my apologies for the somewhat poor composition. I took this shot literally the first week I touched a camera. Regardless of my inability to capture the moment well though, I couldn't help but make an attempt.....not only was the Cathedral breathtakingly beautiful, but note at lower right the young person unable to walk (who later I found out was paralyzed in an auto accident) being carried to the front of the church for prayer.

Haedong Yonggungsa Temple (해동 용궁사, 海東龍宮寺) is uniquely situated on the rugged seaside terrain of Busan’s eastern coast, standing in stark contrast to the majority of Korean Buddhist temples, which traditionally adhere to mountain locations. This coastal setting is the first element that distinguishes it from other temples in Korea.
The temple’s name, Yonggungsa (meaning “Temple of the Dragon Palace”), reflects the importance of the dragon symbol to the site. In Korean culture, dragons are powerful symbols of water, good fortune, and protection, a fitting association for a temple overlooking the sea.
The site is also remarkable for its dedication to the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Gwan-eum (관음 / Gwanseum-bosal). Haedong Yonggungsa is recognized as one of the few temples in Korea devoted to this figure and specifically built by the sea, a location traditionally linked to the Bodhisattva’s compassionate nature and protective presence over waters. Visually emphasizing this devotion, the temple grounds feature the Haesu Gwan-eum Daebul (해수관음대불)—a large, white statue of Gwan-eum that gazes out over the ocean from a high vantage point above the main complex.
Originally established in 1376 by the Buddhist monk Naong Hyegeun (나옹혜근, 羅翁慧勤) during the Goryeo Dynasty, the temple later fell into ruin. For a time, the site was known as Bomunsa (보문사) and remained neglected until it was reconstructed in the 20th century, likely during the 1930s, after a long period of deterioration. The temple was restored and officially renamed Haedong Yonggungsa in 1974, reviving its historical identity and significance as one of Korea’s most scenic and spiritually evocative coastal temples.

- my haiku today has a total of 17 syllables, arranged in 3 lines with a pattern of 5-7-5

- I have a tendency to be verbose, was not good at précis at school and writing haiku forces me to be concise!

The vampire stood in the twilight’s shadow, holding a bouquet of roses in his hands. They were a tribute to her, the woman who had taught him to love and feel compassion. He longed to feel the warmth of the sun one last time, as an echo of the human warmth she had provided him. As tears of blood fell upon the petals, the sun touched his skin, and in that moment of pain and beauty, he remembered the light she had brought into his eternal life.
In the context of the story, the vampire’s compassion for the woman reflects an emotional connection that transcends his nature. Despite being a creature of darkness, his ability to feel compassion brings him closer to his humanity. As a way to honor the woman’s memory and feel a final connection with her, the vampire risks feeling the warmth of the sun, knowing it will cause him pain. It is a symbolic gesture of his love and compassion, choosing to share the human experience of loss and remembrance.
Compassion : the act of showing kindness, support, and a desire to alleviate someone's suffering without necessarily sharing their emotional experience.
