my dear Flickr friend Kim wrote me this delightful haiku in response to this photo:

Since COVID started infecting people all over the world and many were dying, I started thinking about compassion. We think we have it so hard when we have to stay indoors, or just walking about our neighbourhoods, but compared to the very ill and their families, as well as all the front line workers, we have it good, and we’re safe. I had a couple of days when I guess I could say I felt sorry for myself for not being able to get out, but then I really realized that I’m one of the lucky ones! And I feel so much compassion for all the unlucky ones and those whom this worldwide curse is affecting the most. Even if people aren't sick, so many are experiencing anxiety, panic attacks and fear.

So I decided I wanted to create a piece on compassion. I tried a couple of times over two weeks, but with lighting issues and other problems, I gave up for awhile. But determination took over, and although I know my lighting isn’t the greatest, and this isn’t a technically good photograph, it’s what I wanted to convey. As I only had myself to shoot, I am both people in the image (which had its issues as well), but I didn’t want any faces shown, as this is a universal issue. Having to be in both roles reminded me that we need to have compassion for ourselves as well. I hope that this conveys my feelings in creating this image. We are all in this together and compassion and empathy are what we need.

THE COLOR “RED” IN CHINA

Of all the colors, “red” attracts the most attention. The people considered the red color auspicious and a color that expresses honor.

Time has passed, but the thought of respect for the color red has not changed. No matter where and when (in China), people use red color to express happiness. People see the red color as a symbol of happiness, success, loyalty and justice (see also: the mask in Peking Opera).

And especially in China, it is believed that the red color has the effect of keeping bad and evil away from the human body:

Red lamps are hung on New Year's Day, the firecrackers have a red cover, the banners on the door are red.

In addition, many are accustomed to wearing red in years when the number "9" occurs, to avoid the evil. Therefore, it can be said that the red color is China's lucky color, bringing people stability, happiness and prosperity

First, my apologies for the somewhat poor composition. I took this shot literally the first week I touched a camera. Regardless of my inability to capture the moment well though, I couldn't help but make an attempt.....not only was the Cathedral breathtakingly beautiful, but note at lower right the young person unable to walk (who later I found out was paralyzed in an auto accident) being carried to the front of the church for prayer.

This is at Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe, NM.

I've brought indoors a lone rose from the climbing bush.

The smell of peaches is beautiful.

Compassionate humans are everywhere if we are willing to open our eyes and see the kindness of those around us. Compassion is human nature.

So why dont we as humans show more compassion and kindness towards our planet, to Mother Nature, the environment and nature surrounding us. It makes me wonder. Why are we destroying the beauty of nature?

Why dont we acknowledging the need of animals, and nature in general, and the importance of their survival, as well as showing interest in their well-being, after all we need nature to be able to live here on earth.

I want to yet again praise and thank Una and Bo for putting the environment on the agenda, by making this sim.

I hope many will visit, but I also hope and wish people will take the time to sit down and reflect about what they see on the sim, this could very well be a real life scenario if we dont stop and think. By doing so hopefully we can make some changes in the way we treat our planet and the environment, we can all do something, even if little. It is a fact that global warming and climate change is effecting all of us. Some of the things we all can notice are: pollution, global warming, overpopulation, waste disposal, ocean acidification, loss of biodiversity, deforestation, ozone layer depletion, and the list goes on....

The vampire stood in the twilight’s shadow, holding a bouquet of roses in his hands. They were a tribute to her, the woman who had taught him to love and feel compassion. He longed to feel the warmth of the sun one last time, as an echo of the human warmth she had provided him. As tears of blood fell upon the petals, the sun touched his skin, and in that moment of pain and beauty, he remembered the light she had brought into his eternal life.

In the context of the story, the vampire’s compassion for the woman reflects an emotional connection that transcends his nature. Despite being a creature of darkness, his ability to feel compassion brings him closer to his humanity. As a way to honor the woman’s memory and feel a final connection with her, the vampire risks feeling the warmth of the sun, knowing it will cause him pain. It is a symbolic gesture of his love and compassion, choosing to share the human experience of loss and remembrance.

in our culture of busyness and distraction, important things get lost: compassion, creativity, and presence. when i'm in a rush or lost in thoughts, i more easily box people into "other." but when i pause, i see our interconnection. it's not my pain or your pain, it's just pain. i can breathe in the collective pain, and breathe out love, acceptance, and compassion—compassion for myself, for friends, for strangers; compassion for the world.

When you act with compassion you will never be wrong. -- Yogi Tea

First Fall morning of needing a jacket when headed out to exercise. Working on my miracle morning, exercise - check, silence - check, photo - check. Feeling like a champ today! Remembering today and honoring the memories of those who lost their lives 16 years ago.

Last year this climbing rose had grown on the wall up as far as the house guttering so it was severely cut back. The reward this summer is like a small waterfall of beautiful pink with a typical fragrance reminiscent of peaches.

“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

― Albert Einstein
