On Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 pm, many of Nashville’s country and pop artists performed at Music City’s Mercy Lounge, with the goal of raising funds and awareness for the Global Food Crisis Fund, an initiative of Compassion International, a leading Christian child advocacy ministry. Funds raised will go towards assisting children and families affected by the global crisis, specifically in the most needed areas of the world where Compassion serves.
Artists who appeared include Sixpence None The Richer’s Leigh Nash, Carter’s Chord, Julie Roberts, Bryan White, Blaine Larsen, Rob Blackledge, Mica Roberts, Trailer Choir, Canaan Smith, Charmaine, Natalie Hemby, Alathea and other special guests. Radio veterans Tony Randall and Kris Rochester from the new national syndicated morning show “Tony and Kris in the Morning”hosted the event.

I have a question:
Why does it seem like such an odd concept that a person can develop a compassionate personality, to be an affectionate or loving person, without the necessity for an object of affection?
Do you have to "love someone" or express affection to be loving or affectionate? Does there necessarily have to be an expression of anger for a person to be angry?
I think anger is a normal emotion to experience and it should be one that we embrace, even express. But at the same time recognize that some displays of anger aren't appropriate, likewise there are displays of passion that aren't appropriate.
And I refuse to accept that having the trait of compassion relies on there being an object to which the compassion is delivered.
The way we behave towards others doesn't (or shouldn't) have to be a reflection of what they mean to us or a response to how we believe their perception is of us. Our behavior should be because we choose to be that way by instinct. At least this is how I strive to be.
This was one of the hundreds of children I met during my trip to Uganda last year. To make a long story short: the people I saw were in great pain, they lived in primitive conditions and despite all this; they were the most loving, kind, gentle, happy, and genuine people I have ever met.
Lately I've had a huge craving to go back to Uganda and help there again. Hopefully something will happen to fufill that dream.

This original sculpture "Compassion" by artists Michael Angelo Menconi & Charles Lowrie was made on May 30th @ Elements Glass Studio in effort to aid relief around the world via, Doctors Without Borders. This 14" round multi-dimensional sculpture will be auctioned off though the Transcensions website for the month of August 2011, the bidders can email their in bids. The artists agreed to donate 100% of the proceeds to Doctors Without Borders, so the winner of the auction will be asked write the deductible check directly to: Doctors Without Borders.

I think that it starts in the minds and the hearts of each of us. Compassion, forgiveness, understanding, acceptance of each others' differences. And, accepting of oneself (with all imperfections). These are the things that will save our earth... a respect for oneself, all humankind and for the planet... not garbage bags ;)
Mother earth seems to provide for us pretty well. But, I do think that we humans have to done our part to take care of it, and I don't think it's about plastic bags, either. I think it's about the garbage pollution we cause with our negative thoughts, angers, judgments, aggressive behaviors... The thoughts we hold in our minds, and it's usually against ourselves, and that's the worst part.
